Fixture Focus - Spurs (2 January 2009)

Spurs vs Wigan (FA Cup, 3rd Round)

Happy New Year and welcome back to the blog!

For both managers, what better way to start 2009 than perhaps "lying" for gamesmanship.

Redknapp comes out and says that the FA Cup is his "third priority", with EPL survival and doing well at the Carling Cup semi-final as the top 2 items on his list. Then goes on to add that he still loves the Cup. Steve Bruce then said "I will play fringe players in this FA Cup clash". So is this the whole truth, or are they trying to 'outwit and outplay' and throw red herrings to mask their line up so as to get the upper hand in their formations and attacking strategies? We'll know when we see who takes to the field tonight.

Wigan are without scoring maestro Zaki and Heskey due to injuries. With starting goalkeeper Chris Kirkland out as well, one can say that Wigan is there for the taking...if only Spurs can score goals.

Spurs are without Jenas (late fitness test) and Huddlestone in midfield. The defence is again not as strong with Assou-Ekotto suspended and Hutton still out. King will be rested again for sure so the back four is likely to be made up of Bale, Woodgate, Dawson and Gunter. After scoring a total of ZERO goals in the past 2 matches, Spurs would be desparate to score early so as to win out and not end up with a draw and a replay fixture to add to the already congested schedule ahead of us.

COYS!!!
