Weekend Review - 29 Sep 2012

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur

Midweek win against Newcastle, and progress to the next round with the opponent that we will face this weekend.

We will see AVB on a second stint with Tottenham since the ill-fated dismissal at Chelsea just 6 months in to English Premier League last season. Harry Redknapp's recruitment of Croatian regiment have all been clear out. We will see Clint Dempsey, Adebayor, Defoe and Bale as the main threat for this match.

Vidic is out and the suspicion of letting in a goal is quite high. Without the central pairing of Vidic and Ferdinand, the defence looks very shaky.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball. A high scoring game with Man Utd emerge as the winner.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 29 September 2012)

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur

It is an intriguing conundrum. Is it better to face a Top 4 team early in the season or later?

We played United early last season and it was not pretty. This season, both teams are still working on gelling the players understanding. United has not been convincing in their matches so far but they are winning them nonetheless. This fixture should see the return of Wayne Rooney from that nasty injury and the prospect of a sometimes suspect defensive line for Spurs facing the duo-pronged attack of Rooney and van Persie is quite daunting.

Tottenham have only scored eight goals in 20 Premier League visits to Old Trafford, losing 17 times and winning none. The last player to score a winning goal for Tottenham at Old Trafford was Gary Lineker in December 1989. Since then Spurs have lost 18 and drawn four of 22 visits. We are still getting used to Andre Villas-Boas’ system and this will be the toughest test for us this season so far. We will see what the new team is made off and how tactically astute the new head coach is. Considering our record at Old Trafford, a win would be a tremendous result and a boost in the right direction.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (26 Sep 2012)

Carlisle United FC vs Tottenham Hotspur
(League Cup 3rd Round)

Spurs will be travelling away to Brunton Park, home of Carlisle United, in the newly-renamed Capital One Cup 3rd round clash.

Like the other top EPL teams, AVB will likely field a few non-first teamers for this game, which means Townsend and Caulker are likely to start. Regulars such as Dawson and Huddlestone are also likely to be on the starting lineup.

League One side Carlisle United will instead be putting their whole first team into this game, led by the attacker Cadamarteri. Loanee from Huddersfield Town Higginbotham will be in as well. Midfielder Thirlwell and defender Livesey took knocks in the previous game but should be able to start.

Expect a Spurs victory. COYS!

Midweek Review - 26 Sep 2012

Manchester United vs Newcastle United

The match against Liverpool, Man Utd didnt win it on their own effort. It was the help of the referee that gifted them 3 points. Had Liverpool still have 11 men on the pitch, they could have even won the match with ease.

Midweek is the Mickey Mouse Cup which again, have the name changed till we lost track of it. Now is called Capital One Cup.

We are hosting Newcastle and they have retain the current crop of players that surprised us last season. This match we wont get to see all senior players to be involved as Fergie would want to see some youngsters in action, and if they did well, they will continue the involvement and maybe a little League action.

Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. Again no punt as Fergie would want to experiment some youngsters.

Hey! Hey! We have our first Perfect-10 of the season!

Congrats to Mr White with the perfect score and taking the lead this week!

Congrats also to Bedokian, Everton, redherring and myself for getting on the Marksmen Board. This is Everton's second correct score which means he co-leads the Marksmen Board with Mr White.

Cheers!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (23 Sep 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Queens Park Rangers

The second home game within a few days, this time against our neighbours from the west side of the capital Queens Park Rangers.

AVB would still be sticking to his 4-5-1 formation, with Friedel at goal; Walker, Gallas, Vertonghen, Naughton at the back; Sandro, Dembele; Lennon, Sigurdsson, Bale in the middle, and; Defoe in front. Assou-Ekotto, Kaboul, Adebayor and Huddlestone are still not back from their injuries. News has filtered that Parker has recovered and probably going for fitness tests as we speak.

QPR, though rejuvenated with new class players, are still seeking that first win of the season. Ferdinand, Johnson and Fabio are unlikely to start, with M'Bia in doubt, but we will be up against our alumni Zamora and Nelsen.

Let the game begin. COYS!!!!!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (20 Sep 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Societa Sportiva Lazio
(UEFA Europa League Group Stage)

After our first victory of the season, Spurs is marching on to the next challenge - hosting Italian club Lazio in our first European fixture.

This is also AVB's first Europa game with us, and chances are he may allow our new goalkeeper signing Lloris to start. Another new signing Dempsey may be starting as well, either in the lineup or on the bench.

Lazio has emerged from their past few games victorious and look to continue their winning streak, led by their lucky charm Petkovic. German striker Klose will also likely to start against us.

A very tough beginning to our Europa campaign, especially so that all the teams in our group were veterans of the Champions League.

COYS!

Weekend Review - 23 Sep 2012

Liverpool vs Manchester United

An undeserving win against Galatasaray and makes me wonder if Man Utd should get struck by lightning twice if they cant qualify from the group stages. Galatasaray shows more hunger and if luck goes their way, the match could have end for a defeat for Man Utd.

This weekend match against Liverpool, from my own opinion, is the wrong time to face them. Although they have Europa League and have lesser rest than us, they are starting to gel under Brendan Rodgers. The only saving grace is that they have Luis Suarez as the main striker. Any injuries or bans to him, Liverpool is literally no strikeforce.

We also welcome Darren Fletcher back from life threatening bowel condition and was a surprised to see him on the bench against Galatasaray. Wayne Rooney is still out and we will see RVP in action.

The match handicap is level. I foresee a draw for this match.

Midweek Review - 19 Sep 2012

Manchester United vs Galatasary

An easy win against Wigan even without Rooney and RVP, with debut goals from Buttner and Powell. And we begin our European campaign from a visit by Galatasary.

Galatasary, champions of Turkish League 11/12 coached under Fatih Terim, would want to do well since a 5 year absence from the competition. We will also see several ex-Premier League players such as Emmanuel Eboue, Milan Baros, Albert Riera and Johan Elmander.

The Turkish team, has not won on England soil, however Man Utd record against Turkish teams are 3 wins, 1 loss and 2 draw, with the most recent from Besiktas winning at Old Trafford in 09/10 season.

Without Rooney and RVP, Fergie will want to use the same 11 that faced Wigan, for Galatasary match.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. Bookies are expecting Man Utd to step the pedal from the first whistle, which i doubt so as Man Utd are traditionally slow starters in domestic and European campaigns.

Results - EPL Prediction 15 - 16 Sep 2012

We have a relatively straight forward game on Sunday to thank for as most of us scored some points after being floored by Aston Villa the day before, sans Mr White.

So it's a congratulations to Mr White for being the only 6-pointer of the weekend to climb to 2nd position.

Arrenn still hold the pole at this stage but his lead has been slashed to just 3 points ahead of cool402, with the rest of the pack closing in.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 15 September 2012)

Reading vs Tottenham Hotspur

Needless to say, fans are frustrated at the moment but I am sure the gaffer is even more frustrated.

It would be interesting to see what formation AVB plays on Saturday and which personnel he deploys. My guess is that Dembele and Adebayor will start while Dempsey will be available from the bench. The players looked out of sorts in the first 3 matches of the season and are clearly struggling to get use to a new system of play. I really have no issue with any system of play, just as long as we play fluid, entertaining, attacking football. This is what Spurs is known for and anyone who tinkers with this is not going to have a happy reception with the fans.

Reading are a spirited side and have won 8 of the last 10 matches at home. Manager Brian McDermott will welcome Jimmy Kebe, the winger from Mali, back into his squad.

Both managers will want to get their first win of the season under their belt. For my sanity, I really want it to be AVB.

COYS!!!

Weekend Review - 15 Sep 2012

Manchester United vs Wigan Athletic

International duties are over and we are back to domestic action. Some updates for Champions League, we are grouped with Galatasaray, CFR Cluj and Braga. Sounds an easy group like last season, yet Man Utd still got dumped out of the group stages and to the Europa League. Hopefully Man Utd will learnt their lesson and never underestimated any team. Whereas for Man City, they are in a Group of Death which have Real Madrid, Ajax and Borussia Dortmund.

We will be facing Wigan Athletic where we lost to them for the first time last season since they promoted to Premier League in 2005. And coincidentally, it was an unbeatan run that Wigan gone through at the turn of the year and beat the drop. Furthermore, they actually have a winter break during the festive season. Still need further proof for England to perform better in World Cup and European Championship?

Roberto Martinez is also another manager that embraced possession football. But some key players have left and the most notable is Victor Moses. Man Utd on the other hand is, wait for this, short of strikeforce as Van Persie and Rooney are injured. Danny Welbeck and Hernandez are waiting for this chance.

Man Utd is giving 1.75 handicap. Doubtful that the handicap will clear. No punt.

Results - EPL Prediction 01 - 02 Sep 2012

You can tell when ihawk98 had a good pick when everybody INCLUDING himself, scored zeros.

Congrats to redherring for being the only one to have faith in the Gunners and handsomely rewarded with 4 points and leapfrogged over 4 places to land at joint-4th position.

Congrats also to Arrenn for being the other only scorer, albeit just 1 point, to extend his lead slightly further to 5 points.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (1 Sep 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Norwich City

We had just finished the summer transfer window, and in case some of you do not know, we had signed 3 new players to the Lane - Dembele, Dempsey and Lloris, the former two from Fulham.

In our second home game, we will be meeting Norwich, who like us, had just drew 1 and lost 1. AVB would definitely want to have a win, especially at home ground, to start our gear for the top 4 spot by the end of the season. News has filtered out that Dembele might make it to the starting lineup for our game this evening, but Kaboul is out with an injury, so Caulker may take his place.

Norwich, currently managed by ex-Spurs man Hughton, will be missing Lappin, but fellow midfielder Snodgrass will likely make it. We might see our ex-man Bassong starting against us.

A trying time for both teams to make a mark early in the season. With home ground advantage, I do not see any reason why we can lose even a point from this game.

COYS!!!!!
