Results - EPL Prediction League Tie-Breaker 21 May 2016

We have our very first THREE-TIME PPL Prediction League CHAMPION! Congratulations to edwinsng!!!

Both edwinsng and KingMeng went into the tie-breaker expecting a United win by two goals, but that was not the case as the game went into extra-time at 1-1. However, edwinsng also predicted that Crystal Palace would score in his entry, and that goal bonus turned out to be the solitary point necessary for him to secure the throne for this season. Kudos to KingMeng as well for the stiff challenge throughout the year.

It has been another roller-coaster ride that saw many regulars take turns being at the top. Heck, even I managed 7 exact predictions, but as always, it is consistency that will eventually lead to first place.

Stay tuned for the off-season as we will be holding another prediction tournament before EPL 2016 / 2017. Thank you everyone for playing!

Weekend Review - 22 May 2016

Crystal Palace vs Manchester United

We ended the season in fifth after winning against Bournemouth in the last game. We also missed out on the Champions League due to goal difference with Man City despite finishing same points with Man City.

We will end the season with FA Cup final against Crystal Palace. If we win, West Ham will take the place in next season Europa League. If Crystal Palace win, they will be in the Europa League.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

FA Cup Prediction - 22 May 2016

TIE BREAKER MATCH

FA CUP FINAL: SUN 22/5 Crystal Palace vs Manchester United at 12.25am SIN/HKT

Tie breaker rule which is as follow:

1) Predictions are to be made as per normal (90 minutes) except that we have to also predict (i) which side scores the first goal and (ii) the time of the first goal scored e.g. at 37th minute.

2) 3 points will be awarded for a correct outcome and 1 point each for correct score on each side.

3) If after (2) we have a tie, then the person who predicts the correct side to score the first goal gets an additional 0.5 points. If not, we have a winner decided (4).

4) If after (3) we still have a tie, then the person who predicts the correct time (or closest) of the first goal will get an additional 0.25 points. If not, we have a winner decided (4.1).

  • 4.1) There will be a Before-Over-After rule should the difference in predicted time of players who are tied (between predicted and actual time of first goal scored) be identical, the timing before actual time shall trump the timing after actual time.
  • Example: A predicts first goal scored at 40th minute. B predicts first goal scored at 50th minute. If actual score is scored at the 45th minute i.e. both A and B timing difference is 5 minutes, A win B with the Before-Over-After rule.

5) If after (4.1), we still have a tie, the top 2 will play another tie breaker in the Champions League Final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Prediction rules are the same from (1) to (4.1) except that it will be silent tie-breaker where the top 2 will not be making public their predictions. The predictions will be emailed to PPL admin whom will reveal them after kick-off.

6) Prediction Format: Example: 1. Voxeros 2-1, Spain, 37th minute.

GAME ON!

Results - EPL Prediction League Match Weekend 15 - 17 May 2016

What an amazing turn of events!

The PPL champion should have been crowned on Monday, but the United-Bournemouth clash was abandoned due to a bomb scare. Now that the rescheduled finale has been played, we have a TIE!

edwinsng came into this final weekend leading KingMeng by 1 solitary point, but that difference was nullified by KingMeng's prediction of a Bournemouth goal in his entry. As such, tie-breaker rules are now in effect. In order to determine this season's PPL champion, both edwinsng and KingMeng will predict this weekend's FA Cup scoreline, including which side scores the opening goal and the time in which it occurs. The one whose prediction is the closest to what actually happens will win!

In other news, congratulations to ianrush for notching another exact score to bring his Marksmen tally to 7 games. It is however insufficient to unseat Voxeros as the top Marksman (8 exact predictions) for this season! Well done! Special mention also for Bedokian who was the only one to predict two correct outcomes this final weekend.

Now we wait with bated breath to see who will be the ultimate winner for this PPL season and become the first THREE-time champion!

Weekend Review - 15 May 2016

Manchester United vs Bournemouth

A shocked loss to West Ham to bring down the curtain in Upton Park as West Ham will move to Olympic Stadium. And now the 4th spot is no longer in our hands. We could even end up in 8th spot if all of our nearest challengers win in the last game.

Our final game of the season is hosting Bournemouth. The final day result could also bring down the curtain to LVG and bring in Jose Mourinho. If we could not get 4th, LVG is out. If we get 4th, we need to see another season of LVG which we dont wish it will happen. We rather sit out a season of no European campaign then to see the team under performing.

Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. Bournemouth is not going to roll over and let Man Utd win easily, since they are safe and will also want to end the season on a high. No punt.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (15 May 2016)

Newcastle United FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

Congratulations to Leicester City for winning the EPL 2015/2016 season.

To the relief of Spurs fans, Pochettino would be with us for a while more, after having signed a new contract. Dembele and Alli would be absent from the team bus to Newcastle, having being suspended for violent conduct in the game against Chelsea.

Newcastle, though relegated, could still be a threat to us especially at their home ground at St. James' Park. Benitez is capable of pulling off surprises to his opponents.

With the championship title and the relegated teams decided, the last day of the season will see the battle for the coveted second to fourth places in the table. For Spurs, we are guaranteed a top three finish, but with Arsenal closing in behind with 2 points, we might see a St. Totteringham's Day happening.

Anyway, COYS!

Midweek Review - 11 May 2016

West Ham United vs Manchester United

Win against Norwich, and the other game result between Man City and Arsenal ended in a draw, provide us the opportunity to leapfrog Man City if we win against West Ham.

Somehow, i feel that the midweek game will end in a draw as Man Utd will be 1 point behind Man City for the last Champions League spot to make things more exciting for the last day of the season.

Man Utd is giving 0.25 handicap. No punt as I foresee the game end in a draw.

Results - EPL Prediction League Match Weekend 7 - 8 May 2016

In the penultimate weekend of this year's exciting prediction league, the top three contenders for the title have emerged: edwinsng, KingMeng and Voxeros. All former two-time champions! With the final 10 points up for grabs next week, I'm expecting last-minute (or even last-second) predictions from all three of them. No matter what the outcome, we will have our first THREE-time champion!

In other news, Sunderland's comeback win over Chelsea threw all of us off, and so did the draw at Etihad Stadium. However, ianrush managed to snatch an exact prediction and adds to his Marksmen tally. Well done! Congratulations also to Everton for being the only other person to predict a correct result.

Be sure to stay tuned for the nail-biting conclusion to this year's prediction league!

Weekend Review - 7 May 2016

Norwich City vs Manchester United

As expected, we drew with Leicester and they have become the EPL champions for this season. They have realised the wildest dreams that no one thought will have done it. They also create a fairytale that started last season where they are bottom of the table. Fight off relegation and start the new season as an underdog, yet able to overcome adversity to sit at the top of the standings.

Next season is an uncharted territory for them as they have European campaign. Anyway, let them enjoy their sweet success for the hard work they have put in this season. #achievementunlock

We will have the earliest kickoff against Norwich and is another tough match as they are fighting against relegation with Sunderland and Newcastle. And we are 4 points behind Man City with one game in hand.

Man Utd is giving 0.5 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win and close the gap to 1 point behind Man City.

Results - EPL Prediction League Match Weekend 30 Apr - 1 May 2016

Happy Labour Day, everyone!

With only two weekends left, the race for the Prediction League title is by no means over. KingMeng tremendously makes up lost ground with an exact prediction at the Brittania to bring himself within one point of current leader edwinsg, as well as being level on the Marksmen Board. Voxeros manages to maintain his third placing and outsider's chance at the title.

Congratulations to Mr White for hitting the century mark, and cool402 for being the only 6-pointer this week, notching an exact prediction for the United-Leicester match.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (2 May 2016)

Chelsea FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

The title chase at the moment is more of a mathematical equation than of a reality. Although Leicester had failed to clinch the championship yesterday but with 2 more games to go, getting 2 points is not impossible for them.

That is provided we maximise our points all the way to the end.

No prizes for guessing the Spurs lineup heading to the Chelsea home ground later, with the exception of Alli who is suspended for violent conduct. Although the chase is still alive, distancing us from the third and fourth placers is equally important.

Chelsea had nothing to play for except for pride and being the party spoiler for their northern neighbours.

Other than a victory at Stamford Bridge, the title race is over, so Leicester fans will be watching this game with earnest. However, as the saying goes, "it aint over till it is over."

COYS!
