Midweek Review - 1 Jan 2013

Wigan Athletic vs Manchester United

First game of the new year, we will visit Wigan at DW Stadium. We have gained 7 points out of maximum 9 from the festive season. And this game will be another 3 points. We are still 7 points ahead of Man City.

Wigan will no doubt have the motivation as they win against Aston Villa.

Man Utd give 1 ball handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (1 Jan 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Reading FC

A Happy New Year to everyone!

Starting off 2013 is a home game against Reading. Bale will not be in this game due to his yellow card for "simulation" in the Sunderland game, which means Vertonghen, who did not start in the said last game, may be taking up his place. Lloris may be rested to allow Friedel some playtime. Otherwise, AVB is likely to keep his formation and players as per status quo.

Reading came from a 1-0 win over West Ham over the weekend, thanks to an early strike by Pogrebnyak, who we will be seeing at the Lane against us. In keeping with his winning formula, McDermott may be fielding the same side as the one against the Hammers, with probably some minor changes.

Sandro had mentioned that we could be title holders for the season. Now that is one good resolution to start off. COYS!

Results - EPL Prediction 29 - 30 Dec 2012

The joke on the internet now is that if Harry Redknapp manages to keep QPR in the EPL this season, he should be awarded a knighthood...... and the Nobel Prize.

Fernandes would probably throw in free AirAsia flights for life too.

Anyway, congrats to ianrush for taking the last pole of the year and kudos also to cool402 and Everton for their respective 6-point hauls to challenge the lead at 2nd and joint-3rd.

See you guys next year!

EPL Prediction League Match Weekend 29-30 December 2012

Sunderland vs Tottenham Hotspur

Both teams are coming off a win in midweek. Sunderland took 3 points off the reigning champions Manchester City and have been doing well this festive season. Having said that, Danny Rose is ineligible to play against his parent club so Martin O’Neil could use Phil Bardsley as a replacement. John O’Shea looks to be returning as well.

AVB has the team playing with real belief at the moment in a run that has seen us take 16 points from a possible 21. Although quite frankly, I am not sure whether he has a starting formation in mind. The 4-0 win at Villa Park was the perfect tonic for us as we continue this string of festive fixtures. I am concerned about players tiring and hopefully, the return of BAE and Scott Parker to starting roles would help. Adebayor needs to pick up his game a notch as he has been woeful in the recent matches.

We have the quality to win it as another good result would continue to build the players confidence in AVB’s system of play.

Weekend Review - 29 Dec 2012

Manchester United vs West Bromwich Albion

A last gasp win against Newcastle and we are 7 points clear despite conceding 3 goals. Well, no prizes for guessing which area is our weakest link since from the start of the season.

West Brom will be our last opponents for 2012 before we usher 2013. A tough opponent under the guidance of Steve Clarke. He has exceed expectation as West Brom are in the top half of the table. They could even challenge for Europa League qualification next season.

Wayne Rooney is unavailable. And we will see Hernandez partnering with van Persie.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. No punt for this game, but is expecting Man Utd to gain maximum points from this match.

Will like to take this opportunity to wish all PPLiap-ers a Blessed New Year in 2013.

Here's wishing everybody Happy Holidays as we reach the halfway mark of the season.

Gosh! The pack at the top is really tight as ianrush lost his pole to Mr White over the weekend.

Congrats to necroastr for notching another one on the Marksman Board.

Actually, come to think of it, necroastr is the person I am watching in recent weeks. While he may had a slow start, this chap has been chalking up impressive points on the quiet, scoring  6 solid points, second  only to Bedokian's 8 this week. Well done!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (26 Dec 2012)

Aston Villa FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

A Merry Christmas to you all!

And with this holiday season marks the start of a period of frantic football fixtures known (to me) as the "Christmas Crunch".

Spurs will be travelling away to Aston Villa after the home draw with Stoke over the weekend. Good early news for us Spurs fans as we may see the return of Assou-Ekotto and a possible first start for Parker, who has been coming on as a subsitute for the past few games. Dempsey is a doubt due to his injury and we are not sure whether he can make it for the team bus.

Villa had endured a trouncing by Chelsea last night despite their good performance against Liverpool just 10 days earlier. Goalkeeper Guzan would definitely want to put that debacle at the back of his mind and instead concentrate against us. Lambert is hoping that the trio of Vlaar, Agbonlahor and N'Zogbia is fit enough for this clash after their absence in the Chelsea game.

A spectacular Boxing Day game coming up. COYS!!!!!

Midweek Review - 26 Dec 2012

Manchester United vs Newcastle United

A draw with Swansea, cut the lead to 4 points. The fixtures are coming in thick and fast during the festive season.

Next opponent is Newcastle. We already beaten them 3-0 at St James Park. I guess Sports Direct Arena just couldnt associated with the Magpies.

Man Utd is giving 1.75 handicap. No punt on the handicap.

Weekend Review - 23 Dec 2012

Swansea City vs Manchester United

We are heading into the festive season with a visit to Swansea, follow by a home tie against Newcastle, West Brom and end it at Wigan. Hopefully we can gain maximum points from all 4 teams.

Our Champions League opponents for the last 16 is Real Madrid and we will see Cristiano Ronaldo coming back to Old Trafford for the first time.

Swansea is doing well under Michael Laudrup despite Brendan Rodgers leaving for Liverpool at the end of last season. And keeping up the team in the Premier League is a little unknown Spanish striker called Michu. In his debut against Fulham, he make an instant impact by scoring 2 goals.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Disclaimer: This review is purely my opinion. Want to bet, pls bet at your own risk.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 22 December 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Stoke City

This is a home tie but Stoke are the form team at the moment.

The Potters are unbeaten in 7 matches and boast one of the stingiest defenses in the Premier League. They beat Everton last weekend and Tony Pulis should have the same squad to face us at the Lane. AVB should have Gareth Bale and Scott Parker available for selection and we do need some mettle in the middle against a combative Stoke side. Everyone would be curious as to what formation Spurs will try on Saturday. From my point of view after the Swansea game, having 2 strikers upfront is useless if there are no wingers to provide width. So if Bale starts, then let’s hope we try an attacking 4-4-2 but that depends on the availability of Adebayor (hamstring).

Regardless, Spurs have done well during the Christmas/New Year period under ‘arry and we look forward to a string of good results to keep pace with the top teams.

It is really crowded at the top this weekend with the Top 10 within 10 points from the top.

Special mention goes out to necroastr for chasing the pack with an excellent showing of 6 points to close in on the 10th position to just 4 points away.

Congrats to Bedokian, necroastr and Everton for notching yet another one on the Marksmen Board.

Well done.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (16 Dec 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Swansea City AFC

After a heartbreak loss of 3 points at Goodison Park last weekend, Spurs are now back at home hosting their Welsh counterpart in the EPL.

Some good news from our lads at the Lane, we might see the return of Assou-Ekotto and Parker making at least for the fitness test. Bale, who missed the last fixture, may be back in the team.

Swansea welcomes back Williams from suspension, but winger Hernandez is ruled out of the trip to north london with an injury.

In the corresponding fixture last season, we were the winners at 3-1. Hope we would get the same result and go marching on at the top part of the table.

Weekend Review - 15 Dec 2012

Manchester United vs Sunderland

Ok, Man Utd has to win, go 6 points clear and end Man City's home unbeaten run. Defence is still shaky since the start of the season, and it will be our Achilles' heel till the end of the season. Dont be surprised if they lose point along the way and get caught by the chasing pack.

No point buying defenders at the mid of the season and expect them to understand their own team mates or the flow of the game at the first instant.

Next game against Sunderland where Martin O'Neill is managing. This season they are playing below expectations and is hovering around the relegation area. By right, they should be challenging for the top half of the table, or even European places with the players at the disposal.

Man Utd is giving 2 balls handicap. With a defensive team like Sunderland, is quite hard to even score more than 2 goals to win the handicap. Avoid the punt.

It was a good weekend for me as Everton and I are the only ones to score some significant points. Everton up 1 place to 9th while I climb 3 places to 4th.

Had a heart attack when City equalised but Go! Go! Goal! van Persie to bring home the 3 points. Yay!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (9 Dec 2012)

Everton FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs will be travelling outside of London after almost 2 weeks of playing games in the capital. Heading up north, we will be facing Everton at Goodison Park.

After a string of victories and advancement to the Europa League Round of 32, AVB will want to keep the winning momentum going. With Adebayor back from suspension, we will see whether AVB will play him or the in-form Defoe, or both at the same time.

The Toffees are without injured stalwart Neville, but they still have good players such as Fellani, Baines, ex-Spurs-for-a-brief-while Pienaar and of course, their strike-man Jelavic.

Goodison Park has not been a good hunting ground for us, with our last win back in 2007. Nevertheless, I am confident that Spurs will go marching on.

Weekend Review - 9 Dec 2012

Manchester City vs Manchester United

The loss against Cluj is expected and also end our home unbeaten run since 2008 for Champions League.

Our next game is a massive derby against Man City. If we win, we will be 6 points clear. Do you really think Man Utd will win this game and run away with the title? I doubt so. There are unknown forces at play.

Man Utd eat 0.25 handicap. No punt for this game.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (Europa League, 7 December 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Panathinaikos

No beating around the bush. Win or draw and we will progress to the knock-out stages of the competition.

Panathinaikos have a full strength side and should make a go of it as a win should take them through if Lazio beats Maribor. Meanwhile, Spurs will have to do without the services of Gareth Bale, Michael Dawson, Scott Parker, Younes Kaboul and Benoit Assou-Ekotto. Both Bale and Dawson were substituted during the match against Fulham for pulling their hamstrings. Expect Friedel and Adebayor to start as Lloris and Defoe get much needed rest.

AVB has got a string of wins in the Premier League under his belt and I am looking forward for a good result tonight to continue building our momentum. We definitely have the quality in our side so it is up to the players to show it on the field. I do not expect a high-scoring affair though.

Midweek Review - 5 Dec 2012

Manchester United vs CR Cluj

Horrendous defending from Man Utd. If this is the mentality of "you score one, we score 2 back", we might lose the title to goal difference yet again.

We have the last game of the Champions League before the year end and again no impact to the qualification regardless of the result since we have qualified for the knockout rounds. Expect to see 2nd team in action.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball handicap. No punt to this match

Fixture Focus - Spurs (1 Dec 2012)

Fulham FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

The 3rd EPL game within a week, exhaustion began to show on players across the league as we are nearing the infamous "Christmas Crunch" period.

Good thing is, we are travelling just across the capital to Craven Cottage, home of Fulham. This game is kind of a reunion of sorts, with ex-managers and ex-players together on the same field.

Caulker is back after missing the midweek game against Liverpool and he will likely return to the centre defence role. The ex-Fulham D&Ds (not related to a popular fantasy game or a year end party) Dembele and Dempsey are likely to start against their old club. Adebayor is still suspended and thus Defoe is continuing to provide our firepower up front.

Jol welcomes Richardson back to the lineup but he will be missing Ruiz through injury. Berbatov will be starting as well.

An interesting matchup, given that we have found our winning ways again. An away win would be nice to start the last month of the year.
