Weekend Review - 1 Dec 2012

Reading vs Manchester United

Right, scored a 32sec goal and that it, no more goals after that. and now it look like another 2 horse title race again with both Manchesters opening up 6 points gap.

Rafa Benitez is the new interim manager of Chelsea when the Chelsea supporters are still hating him for all the comments that he had made when he is the Liverpool manager. Prehaps he is there to bring out the best of Torres?

We will make a trip to Madajski Stadium to face Reading. They got promoted to the Premier League in 06-07, lasting 2 seasons before been relegated to the Championship. 4 years absence, they are back in the Premier League but the odds of them staying up look a long fight to the end as they are now in the relegation battle with QPR, Aston Villa, Southampton, Sunderland and Newcastle.

Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 28 November 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool

We played beautifully against West Ham! And I would love to see more of that in our next match against Liverpool. Of the 78 games played, Spurs have recorded 38 wins, and Liverpool have come away with 23 victories. The most recent encounter between these two sides at White Hart Lane was just last season, in September 2011, as they swept to an impressive 4-0 win in a Premier League match.

Liverpool are undefeated in their last eight League games but there have been a lot of draws among them. Brendan Rodgers and AVB are still imposing their system and playing styles in their respective teams so this could be an exciting tie or a frustratingly boring affair. Bale, Dembele, Defoe and Lennon will look to terrorize the defense while our backline will need to keep a close watch on Suarez throughout the match.

I am anxious for AVB to succeed and another win will keep us moving in the right direction.

Midweek Review - 28 Nov 2012

Manchester United vs West Ham United

We won and top the table with a point in front. Funny thing is that Man City have not lost and yet still in 2nd place. Anyway, dont look too much on the table at the moment.

West Ham will make a visit to Old Trafford this midweek and we always have a hard time against Sam Allardyce especially the time when he managed Bolton. A tactician that use long ball and a lone striker up front, a tactic that he is currently using in West Ham with Andy Carroll up front.

Man Utd is giving 1.75 ball handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Results - EPL Prediction 24 - 25 Nov 2012

As I have predicted, Mark Hughes has been given the boot. Harry Redknapp now has the unenviable task of taking over a club with only 4 points and only 25 more games to go. I hope he doesn't break Mick McCarthy's record at Sunderland for fewest points in an EPL season (19 points, 2002-2003 Season).

Still, the biggest shocker had to be the sacking of Chelsea's manager Roberto di Matteo. Nobody saw that coming.

Coming back to our own league, congrats to redherring for bouncing back and taking the lead after tanking the week earlier.

Nothing much to report this week and so it's off we go to the next weekend's predictions. Cheers.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 25 November 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham

This could turn out to be a contentious derby!

West Ham having been holding their own this season in the Premier League and any side coached by Big Sam is always a challenge (aka Bolton in the past). Spurs may be a little tired after travelling for last Thursday night’s Europa League match in Italy and with an enforced suspension for Adebayor, Defoe will start again. William Gallas is likely to start and Captain the side, with Vertonghen moving across to left back in place of Naughton. Dembele should be available finally after returning from injury and I am sure AVB will drum into the team that a home win is vital for morale.

Weekend Review - 24 Nov 2012

Manchester United vs Queen Park Rangers

A midweek loss against Galatasaray doesnt make a difference as we are already through to the knockout rounds.

We are up against QPR where Mark Hughes have not win a single game this season, and is rooted at the bottom of the table. The irony is that Roberto Di Matteo got the sack first even when Chelsea is at the top half of the table. Will this match be the last of Mark Hughes?

Latest update: Mark Hughes has been sacked. So we didnt get to see this match as the last of him.

Man Utd is giving 2 balls handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (22 Nov 2012)

Società Sportiva Lazio vs Tottenham Hotspur
(Europa League Group Stage)

Even before this game started, there has been news of violence, with the injury of 10 Spurs fans outside a pub in Rome. I would like to appeal to all sides concerned to be calm, for football is supposed to bring the world together, not to divide.

Back on the pitch front, our Spurs boys will be facing Lazio at their home turf, and in Italian football standards, the home ground is really a home ground, and not an easy place to play. With a string of EPL losses, AVB is determined to make this game a morale-boosting one, and he will spare no effort in fielding a strong side. With Adebayor suspended for the EPL game, it makes sense in starting him for this one. Caulker is back but Dembele is still unfit.

Lazio will be without defender Dias and midfielder Ederson, who are on the injury list, but  manager Petkovic would have the remaining Lazio first-teamers in full force for this game. A win for them and it is a guaranteed qualification to the Round of 32.

A great game coming up, hopefully we could emulate our good performance in Italy during the 2010/2011 Champions League season.

Midweek Review - 20 Nov 2012

Galatasaray vs Manchester United

Without Rooney, we had our 3rd loss in the Premier League against Norwich. Yet we are still 2nd in the league as the chasing pack also lose. As the season progress, we will start to see who are the challengers, who are the surprise package for this season and we are seeing WBA and Everton holding the fort better than last season.

Our midweek game against Galatasaray is a meaningless one as we are already through to the knockout stages. Fergie will send 2nd team for this match.

Man Utd is eating 0.5 handicap. Eat leh! No punt.

A good showing by Arrenn with a correct prediction on the QPR game to get him 5-points to co-share both the league table and also the Marksmen Board.

The way I see it, Hughes is going out the door regardless how much faith Fernandes has in him. If ihawk98 picks another QPR game this coming weekend, I am so going to predict against them.

Weekend Review - 17 Nov 2012

Norwich City vs Manchester United

Last weekend win against Aston Villa, consolidate our position at the top and we are visitng Norwich City today

Opposition boss is Chris Hughton and so far, Norwich performances have been so-so.

Our 2 top strikers are out, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck will take over.

Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (17 Nov 2012)

Arsenal FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

2 losses from the past 2 EPL games, and we have this “ye olde derby” coming up. What’s worse is that the game will be at their home turf.

Our injury and doubtful list of key players remained the same, which means the entire team who went to Manchester last weekend will likely make the short trip to the Emirates Stadium. The next question is who will AVB play – will he give a chance to Adebayor to start and, together with Gallas, give some sort of an old boys reunion taste to the game? And whether Friedel or Lloris will helm the space in front of goal? We will know them soon enough.

Arsenal had not been in a good run lately, with 2 draws and a loss in their past 3 games. Wenger is aware that his backline is not as steady as before, with the game against Fulham last weekend to show it. But with Wilshere back in full form and speedster Walcott, the midfield will likely to see an interesting duel.

With emerging teams vying for the limited Champions League spots, this will be a very interesting game.

Results - EPL Prediction 10 - 11 Nov 2012

It was one of those weekends where a single point will let you go places. 4 points will get you right next to the pole leader.

Congrats to ianrush and Mr White for being the only 3+1 pointers as the close the gap to the redherring who has a comfortable buffer to fend off the challengers.

On to the next game weekend then!

Fixture Focus–Spurs (11 November 2012)

Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur

Can we do the away double of the Manchester sides this season? Big question to ask really.

Having only 3 days of rest after the Europa League match on Thursday, Spurs have to travel to the Etihad for a very tough league match against the reigning champions who have had 5 days of rest. The last 2 visits here have resulted in defeat for Spurs. But having taken the points at Old Trafford recently, we know that we can beat anyone if our game is on.

I hope the dominance shown by Spurs on Thursday will convince AVB to be flexible and employ the 4-4-2 formation when the occasion allows it. With the players we have now, 4-4-2 suits us perfectly. Bale will relish taking on Maicon again after his move from Milan and could terrorise the left flank.

I say we should throw caution to the wind and attack with 2 up front.

Weekend Review - 10 Nov 2012

Aston Villa vs Manchester United

We are through to the Champions League knockout round with 2 games to spare. And once again, we are behind to Braga before a blackout disrupted the game. After the disruption where Fergie give another motivational talk, Man Utd turned the game around.

We will be facing Aston Villa at Villa Park. The current manager is Paul Lambert as he took over from Alex McLeish. Anyone still remember last season was the poorest showing of Aston Villa as they have the 2nd fewest wins in the league next to Wolves. This season, it is still the same at the moment, hovering above the relegation zone.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball. Take Man Utd for the win and consolidate their standing in the Premier League.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (8 Oct 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Nogometni Klub Maribor
(Europa League Group Stage)

Putting behind the “worst performance of the season” as quoted by AVB in our game against Wigan, Spurs are facing another visitor to the Lane, the Slovenian side NK Maribor.

There has been some good news filtering through from the press that Dembele is likely to return to the starting line-up, though this will subject to confirmation. Lloris will take over the goalkeeper position in the usual rotation way, and fellow Frenchman Gallas is poised to start as well, despite some concerns to his hamstring.

Maribor, after having earned a draw at home, will be facing the Lane crowd and try to get a result. Statistically speaking, Slovenian clubs have a bad record against their English counterparts, with 4 games lost out of 6.

With 3 Europa draws in a row and a dismal recent home performance, Spurs is hoping to break these records and set them straight.

Weekday review - 7 Nov 2012

Braga vs Manchester United

We are top of the league after wins from Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea. But we are not getting carried away as we already suffered 2 defeats at this stage of campaign. Dont think too much about it till we see a clearer picture at end of March. I also hope that the exit from Capital One League Cup is a blessing in disguise as the only challengers for the Cup are Arsenal and Chelsea.

We are heading to Portugal against Braga. We are one win away from qualifying for the knockout rounds. However a worrying trend is appearing in this season Champions League. We are always down by one goal before hitting the winner and 3 points on board. We hope that Fergie will really reinforce the leaky defence once the knockout rounds resume in Feb next year.

Man Utd is giving 0.25 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win and progress to the knockout rounds.

Results - EPL Prediction 03 - 04 Nov 2012

Congrats to redherring for getting two outcomes correct to be the only 6-pointer of the week. What a massive result that gave redherring a 5-point lead at the top as well as a notch up the Marksmen Board.

Well done!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (3 Nov 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Wigan Athletic

We are finally back at home, for a game, that is. With the chances of getting a silverware this season being reduced somewhat, we are now facing Wigan, who like us, were dumped out of the Capital One Cup.

AVB has a few more choices now after seeing some of our fringe players performing well during the Capital One Cup game. As of now I am not sure what would be the line-up, but I am sure that Dembele is still out, alongside long-term absentees Assou-Ekotto and Parker.

Wigan is not sitting pretty at the bottom half of the table, although they had a victory against the Hammers last weekend. Martinez will be having an ace up his sleeve; a new Spanish signing by the name of Ramis, who would be there to stop our strike force.

A good game nonetheless, and a game to make Spurs go marching on.

Weekend Review - 3 Nov 2012

Manchester United vs Arsenal

Over the last 2 games against Chelsea, the first game was overshadowed by an accusation of referee making a racist taunt to a Chelsea player. Ironically, John Terry was banned for making a same remark to Anton Ferdinand.

We have an early afternoon game against Arsenal. Arsenal is off the pace in chasing the leaders as they are 7 points lagging behind. If Man Utd win, Arsenal will be 9 points behind, which is a case of concern for Wenger.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.
