Fixture Focus–Spurs (Capital One Cup, 31 October 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Hull City FC
This is Spurs vs Hull part deux!
Hull made it tough for us last Sunday and we only won because of a penalty even though we had almost 70% possession. I expect similar tactics from them today again with a 5-4-1 formation designed to frustrate the home side.
Spurs will field a fairly strong side as AVB has publicly made the war cry that we will want to win trophies. He is expected to ring the changes with a number of first team players given a well-earned rest. Hugo Lloris, Michael Dawson, Paulinho, Sandro, Andros Townsend and Roberto Soldado are among those likely to be given a breather.

Defender Danny Rose remains out with a toe problem while Younes Kaboul is also struggling to overcome an abductor injury. Midfielder Etienne Capoue is not yet ready to return as he continues his rehabilitation from an ankle injury so Lewis Holtby could play in a deeper role. Youngster Zeki Fryers is a doubt with a groin injury but he might be risked at left-back, while Brad Freidel, Erik Lamela, Nacer Chadli and Jermaine Defoe are expected to start.

Given Hull’s excellent start to the season, I expect this to be a slim win for us again.

Midweek Review - 29 Oct 2013

Manchester United vs Norwich City

A late comeback win against a struggling Stoke, and straight away people mentioned we are seeing the old Man Utd style. We will see as time will tell.

Another welcome distraction in the form of Capital One Cup and will have Norwich visiting us. As usual, Moyes will rotate the squad to gain match fitness and experience.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. Is it a norm? I have a feeling this match will go into extra time.

Well, looks like redherring is on a roll with a notch on the Marksmen Board for the second consecutive week. Will there be a three-peat the next round? Let's wait and see.

Congrats to ianrush who continues to extend his lead like a runaway train.

Congrats also to Mr White for debuting on the Marksmen Board.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (27 Oct 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Hull City AFC

After a nervous win against Sheriff over the midweek Europa fixture, Spurs is now back at home welcoming the next opponent, the newly promoted Hull City, aka The Tigers.

AVB's rotation policy is somewhat predictable now, with one team playing cup games and the other playing league matches. No prizes for guessing who will be at the starting lineup this Sunday.

Hull, sitting at 9th, so far has a bumpy ride in the EPL, with 3 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws. This game will see the return of Huddlestone back to the Lane, after his summer transfer a few months ago.

I only have four words for this game - COYS!

Weekend Review - 26 Oct 2013

Manchester United vs Stoke City

Another win in the Champions League against Real Socieda, and we are 3 points away from a magical 10 to seal a place in the knockout round.

Stoke, managed by old boy Mark Hughes, is struggling as they are still getting used with the new style of management after Tony Pulis left last season. We saw another managerial casualty as Ian Holloway left by mutual consent. And Crystal Palace is looking at Tony Pulis as a replacement.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. I will go for a draw this time.

Apologies for the late update of this week's table as it's a really crazy week for me. I just stumbled back into my hotel at 7 this morning.

So anyway here it is with just about everybody getting points over the weekend and as such, not much change in the rankings.

Congrats to redherring for opening account on the Marksmen Board.

Cheers.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (Europa Cup, 24 October 2013)

FC Sheriff vs Tottenham Hotspur
This is one of those tough flights over to Europe that can take a toll on players. The good thing is that Spurs now have depth in the squad to get results in multiple competitions.
FC Sheriff is the team that consistently performs and tops the Moldova league. They have fought for 2 draws in their first 2 group stage matches and have not dropped any points.
Spurs should be resting some key players and I like to see Adebayor given the start with Harry Kane on the bench. Soldado and Defoe should just be given the day off. This is a good match to give our second stringers an opportunity to get playing time and consequently, it might be a disjointed display from our boys.
I expect a draw as a likely result.

Midweek Review - 23 Oct 2013

Manchester United vs Real Sociedad

Another disappointing result from Man Utd. But credit to Southampton for defying the odds and to get a hard-earned draw. They are not fourth in the standing for no reason.

We will play Real Sociedad in a double header for these 3 weeks  in the Champions League. Though we have 4 points and did well in Moyes's virgin debut in the competition, I dont foresee them progressing further beyond quarter final stages as that time will be focus on the domestic title instead.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball handicap. Again no punt as i believe Man Utd will win this match by an odd goal.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (20 Oct 2013)

Aston Villa FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

With the international break over, Spurs will be travelling to Aston Villa, whom we had sent off in the Capital One League Cup fixture weeks ago.

Spurs are likely to see a mostly unchanged side from the game against West Ham 2 weeks ago, with the only probable change in Soldado starting the game instead of Defoe. Good news off the pitch is that we may have Lennon, Capoue and Kaboul back soon, though not in time for this one.

Aston Villa had shown some impressive record against Arsenal, Man City and Norwich, even though they had a lacklustre draw against Hull before the international break.

Spurs would have to get their engines starting again after the embarrassing defeat at home to our east London rivals West Ham. Being an away game and against a team that had defeated Arsenal, we shall not underestimate them.

COYS!!!!!

Weekend Review - 19 Oct 2013

Manchester United vs Southampton

International week is over and we are back to domestic league action. England qualify for the World Cup next year.

Southampton is no easy opponent as they like to keep the ball on the ground. Moyes and his team will have to find a way as he is still trying to figure out his best 11 at the moment.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball handicap. No punt for this match.

Results - EPL Prediction 05 - 06 Oct 2013

It's a pretty even weekend as almost everybody gets on the scoreboard (sorry ihawk98 and Mr White!).

ianrush continue to lead the table while joining Everton to co-lead the Marksmen Board.

All eyes will be on this coming week as we enter the concluding round of the World Cup Qualifiers.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (6 Oct 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United FC

Another London derby held at White Hart Lane, Spurs will play host to currently-struggling West Ham in a Sunday match.

Sitting comfortably at the top of Group K in the Europa League after the midweek victory against Anzhi, AVB is looking to advance along the EPL table, too, at the expense of the off-form Hammers. Kaboul is out due to injury incurred at Russia, but with the current depth of the squad, that is not really a worry for the team. Defoe is expected to make way for Soldado in the striking department again.

Big Sam will be coming to north London without the services of Carroll, and playmaker Cole is likely to be given a start at the bench. 5 points from 6 games are hardly good news, since this resulted in their current 17th place in the table.

However, as a derby, we may see some great action from this one.

Weekend Review - 5 Oct 2013

Sunderland vs Manchester United

By right we could have won the game against Shakhtar and reduce the pressure on David Moyes. I dont think the result will have any bearing to help Moyes in the Premier League.

The Premier League is a season long marathon and Champions League to us, as long you able to qualify from the group stages, progress from there onwards is a bonus to us.

Now we visit Stadium of Light where the first managerial casualty Paolo Di Canio was sacked last week. This is a game where we expect 3 points, no questions asked.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. Will test water for this game. Take Man Utd for the win.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (3 Oct 2013)

FC Anzhi Makhachkala vs Tottenham Hotspur
(Europa League Group Stage)

Our second Europa league game takes us to the eastern edges of Europe, right in the heart of Russia. Though our opponent, FC Anzhi, is based in Dagestan, for certain reasons, the game would be held at the grounds of Saturn Ramenskoye, near Moscow.

With an upcoming match against West Ham this weekend, AVB would likely rotate his squad for this game, similar to the lineups against Tromso and Aston Villa in the Europa and League Cup games respectively. This means Defoe and Lamela are likely given the start, with Friedel at goal.

FC Anzhi had seen their fortunes rose and fell within a space of 2 years. In the past 2 seasons, they had boasted players such as Eto'o, Carlos and Willian, but now they are struggling in the Russian league, having a winless 12-game stretch.

This game should be a walkover for Spurs, though we have to be careful for surprises and sucker punches.

Midweek Review - 3 Oct 2013

Shakhtar Donetsk vs Manchester United

The Fergie fear factor is no longer there, opponents and players all sense it. In a way, Moyes have bigger shoes to fill more than we can imagined. This article sums up all here.

No more fear factor under Moyes

We have now lost 3 games and have the worst start to the Premier League. We are 8 points behind Arsenal and is at the lower half of the table. Not a good sign for Man Utd and all the supporters.

We will now travel to Ukraine and play against Shakhtar in the Champions League, where Moyes mentioned our team is not good enough for this elite competition. I am finding it increasingly difficult to write Man Utd game review whenever there is a game coming up and to summarise last game results.

Man Utd is eating 0.25 handicap. It will take a leap of faith for me to go with Man Utd at the moment, but sadly I dont have the courage or the confidence to do it.
