Results - Game 29 - 30 Oct 2011 EPL Prediction League 2011/2012

Finally chalked with first 3 points this weekend but it was a hollow victory on account of the fact that there was only 1 match on Sunday and a one-sided one at that.

Still better than yet another zero I guess.

Congrats to Bedokian, ihawk98, redherring and Mr White for scoring one more on the Marksmen Board.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (30 Oct 2011)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Queens Park Rangers FC

It was 29 years ago during the FA Cup final between these two teams that I had decided that Spurs is THE team to support.

The support is still there.

This Sunday, Spurs will be playing host to their west London neighbours. Our central defence squad is still skeletal at the moment so it is likely Kaboul and Bassong will be back. For the midfield and strikeforce, if we are going for the 4-4-1-1, then we will see Adebayor up front with Van der Vaart behind him, and with (from left to right) Bale, Modric, Parker and Lennon. If it is 4-4-2, then Defoe will partner Adebayor.

There are a few players in QPR to note, especially ex-Spurs player Taarabt, who may want to prove a point to his old club, and ex-Toon Barton, who is not really friendly with mostly everyone. The Hoops are on a high after beating Chelsea last weekend and may now want to gain another London scalp.

Expect Spurs to win.

Weekend Review - 29 Oct 2011

Everton vs Manchester United

Last weekend was a bad day for us. To lose 6-1 to Man City is a black day in Man Utd history. Jonny Evans was sent off, our whole line of defenders was static to counter Man City's barrage of attacks. It just simply not good enough though we have no more matches against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or Chelsea until 22 Jan 2012. Hopefully we can go on a winning run and close in on the 5 points lead by Man City.

I missed the midweek review as i got the timing wrong. Aldershot was the opposition. It was a win that we need to bounce back from the weekend trashing. Fergie put out the 2nd team, which they performed better than the 1st 11. Michael Owen, Berbatov and Antonio Valencia were the scorers. Tom Cleverly was also in this match. How come Fergie didnt play Berbatov and Valencia in the Man City match was really beyond me.

And the coming weekend, we have an early kick off at Goodison Park. Everton had an inconsistent season as they have no funds to buy new players and is finding new owners to bring them forward. With off-field problems that are troubling Everton, expect Man Utd to win this match.

Weekend Outlook (22 Oct 2011)

   Manchester United vs Manchester City

It's the weekend of the great Manchester Derby. A result here, while it is still very early in the season, may just be the decider of the title should the two teams are neck and neck at the finish line.

We have had a good result in the ECL earlier in midweek as we notched our first win after a sputtering 2 draws. We rested several key players ahead of this game and with Aldershot after this game in the Carling Cup tournament, we can afford to pen our strongest players on the team sheet today.

Ferdinand is expected to partner Vidic to seal the fortress at the back. Rooney is back onto the pitch in midweek and is expected to start again today. So is Nani on account of his excellent form of late forcing Park to make way for the fantastic Portuguese.

Hargreaves should be expected to make an appearance after so many months but will be in a blue shirt. Tevez is still locked in cold storage which is great news for us. Dzeko will be the man to mark for this weekend's game.

The Asian Handicap for this game is ManUtd to give up 0.5-ball with a decimal odds of 2.15. Strange considering the team receiving the handicap is currently placed on top of the league table ahead of ManUtd. Perhaps the reason being ManCity's dismal record away to the Top 4 and at the same time, ManUtd has been giant killing all the top teams since the Charity Shield with the sole exception of the recent draw against Liverpool.

Despite hundreds of millions of Sterling poured into the team that is finally at the top of the table, everybody still feel that they still lacked a certain something to be a true champion team.

Hence, nobody at ManCity actually believe that they can march into the Old Trafford and walk off with 3 points on Sunday. Not even Mancini himself who is close to going down on his knees and kissing the feet of the great Scotsman.

Verdict for the game? I think ManUtd will seal the 3 points for this game not only because they will play better in the Theatre of Dreams but also ManCity has already gifted the points to the home side even before the kick-off whistle is blown.

Expect a number of goals as ManUtd is not expected to be able to keep a clean sheet on account of ManCity excellent firepower up front.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 23 October 2011)

  Blackburn Rovers vs Tottenham Hotspur

League table proppers Blackburn will be entertaining visiting Tottenham who are looking to continue our unbeaten run to six games.  Rovers have only beaten Spurs twice in our last 15 meetings and Paul Robinson (former Lilywhite shot stopper) has already let in 18 goals this season.

With our recent form, Spurs will face this fixture with confidence after a well deserved mid-week win in the Europa League where many first stringers were rested.  Adebayor should start in front and the biggest selection headache for ‘arry is where to play van der Vaart.  If Defoe gets a start too, then van der Vaart will be pushed out to the right side again where he can be quite ineffective.  I don’t envy ‘arry dilemma as he has to fill his midfield with the likes of Bale, Modric, Parker, Sandro, van der Vaart and Lennon.

Here’s hoping he picks the right formation and lineup for a win!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (20 Oct 2011)

Tottenham Hotspur vs FC Rubin Kazan
(Europa League Group Stage)

Spurs will be playing host to Russian side Rubin Kazan, who like us were in the Champions League last season and deemed to be the toughest opponent in Group A.

Adhering with Redknapp's "policy" for the Europa League (at least for the group stage), a number of injured players and with an away game in Blackburn coming up, the selection for this game would prove a bit of a quandary for him. Likely starters will be the same as per the lineup that faced PAOK and Shamrock Rovers, e.g. Cudicini, Pavlyuchenko, Townsend, Livermore, etc. There is a possibility that we may see the return of Sandro and Lennon if they are fit for the game.

Rubin Kazan entered the competition from the Champions League play-off stage, and they boast an international squad. In front they have Martins, who famously downed Arsenal in last season's League Cup final, and not forgetting Valdez, who in 2009 scored 2 goals (and won) against Barcelona in the Nou Camp. Also, they have a strong defence, especially the partnership between Navas and Bocchetti.

This game will be a cracker for us and the visitors in White Hart Lane.

Midweek Review - 18 Oct 2011

Otelul Galati vs Manchester United

A weird line up with Phil Jones in midfield and Danny Welbeck as a lone attacker in the match against Liverpool. It was a rather cautious approach from Fergie, which surprised everyone. A well deserved point gained with one eye on the weekend match against Man City.

The midweek match is a mere distraction for the big weekend clash. But is a match that we need 3 points badly after drawing the last 2 matches against Benfica and Basel. Underestimated our group even before the matches start.

Otelul Galati is a newcomer in the Champions League but a regular in the Europa League. The gulf between both competitions are starkly different.

Man Utd give 1.75 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (16 Oct 2011)

Newcastle United FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

After the international break, Spurs will be going up to Tyneside on the northeast, where so far it has not been a happy hunting ground for us, especially so at St James' Park, home of the black-and-white Toon Army.

We do have a few casualties on our end, with Adebayor and Van der Vaart needing last-minute fitness tests. Also, Lennon and Sandro are doubtful to start, and Kranjcar and Corluka were injured during the international games while they were with Croatia. We may be going in as a weakened side but still could pack a punch with the rest of our players.

Newcastle's players who were involved in the internationals returned relatively untouched, especially their new talisman Cabaye will be certain to start, alongside their goal machine Ba. With the exception of Guthrie, Ameobi and Williamson, Pardew has a buffet of players to choose from.

Are we able to break the jinx at St James' and continue our good run? We sure could find out in the game tomorrow.

Weekend Review - 15 Oct 2011

Liverpool vs Manchester United

This season we have trashed Arsenal 8-2 and win Chelsea 3-1. Liverpool and Man City in successive matches that to be include in the list?

With Champions League match against Otelul Galati sandwiched in between these 2 big matches, Fergie have a selection headache as majority of his players returned unscathed in the final round of European Championships qualification.

Since the buyover from Fenway Sports Group exactly 1 year ago, Liverpool fortunes change for the better in an instance, bringing in the mangerial calibre of Kenny Dalglish as on a 6 months contract before converting to 4 years contract, and buying Luis Suarez to replace Fernando Torres. This season, they aim to qualify for Europe again after missing out a place last season.

A level handicap match which im predicting a Man Utd win.

There wont be any prediction league games for this weekend due to European Championships and Asian World Cup qualifiers.

Jaywalk, you have one week of rest to break the jinx.

Results - Game 01 - 02 Oct 2011 EPL Prediction League 2011/2012

Now this is starting to get depressing as it is yet another failure-to-launch weekend for me. I am starting to wonder when I am going to break duck, if ever.

Congrats to a bunch of people for getting chalked on the Marksmen Board. Well done, ihawk98, cool402, edwinsng, Beaver21 and necroastr.

What a waste for edwinsng and necroastr for narrowly missing the Perfect-10. Try again next week.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (2 Oct 2011)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal FC

A thrilling derby had passed us on Saturday evening at a location called Merseyside in the northwest of England, and soon there will be another derby clash, right at the heart of north London.

White Hart Lane will play host to its neighbours Arsenal in this 152nd league meeting (correct me if I got my figures wrong) between the rivals. Being a derby, Harry Redknapp will likely start an almost completely different team that played Shamrock Rovers just 2 days earlier. Expect Bale, Van der Vaart, Modric, Parker, Assou-Ekotto and of course ex-Gunner Adebayor to start.

Arsenal, like us, had won their latest European game and will be relishing this clash. First-time Gunners Mertesacker and Arteta will start, along with stalwarts van Persie, Sagna and Song. With their season starting at a low, Wenger will take this game very seriously.

Expect a flurry of goals, but advantage will be to Spurs.
