Weekend Review - 11 May 2014

Southampton vs Manchester United

Last game of the season where we will know whether we will get to have Europa League football next season. The likeihood seem very slim.

This season is a season to forget, with all the wrong reasons. Hopefully the new manager will set things right and bring us back to where we belong.

This match is a level handicap. For some reason, Man Utd will like to end this season on a high, maybe able to get into Europa next season?

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 11 May 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa

A Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers out there on Sunday. My love and appreciation of my mother is one of the few things that surpasses my love for my beloved Spurs!

We have reached the last fixture of another roller coaster season. Another season where it could have been but it didn’t. And another off-season where anything could happen with the manager and key players again.

If the speculation is anything to go by, this is likely to be Sherwood’s last game in charge at White Hart Lane. We currently lie in sixth place, three points ahead of Manchester United meaning that a draw will guarantee them a Europa League spot for next season. Prior to last weekend's disappointing defeat away to West Ham United, Spurs had won three and drawn four, so we were in relatively good form going into the match against the Hammers, which will have made the result all the more disappointing.

For Aston Villa, their Premier League status for next season is guaranteed, when it looked as though their position was getting quite precarious in the bottom half of the table. However, they have won one out of their last eight games, which was a 3-1 win over Hull City. Six out of the other seven games have ended in defeat so it hasn't been a good run for Paul Lambert's men.

I don’t expect a fiery affair so a slender win for Spurs should be on hand as we head into World Cup season next.

Midweek Review - 7 May 2014

Manchester United vs Hull City

Hmm, another loss and we are 5 points away from an Europa League spot from Tottenham. If we win the game in hand against Hull, we will need to battle with Tottenham on the last day of the season to determine who get the entry for next season Europa.

We seem to be rather cautious on who will be the next manager to take charge of Man Utd after the initial failure from David Moyes.

Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. Rooney is not available in this match. No punt for this match but hopefully they will put up a fight to salvage some pride and head to the last day of the season to, at the very least, secure an Europa League spot.

Results - EPL Prediction 03 - 04 May 2014

ianrush squandered the chance to catch up as both KingMeng and he stumbled at the penultimate hurdle. Still, it remain a wide gap away from the chasing pack.

I guess all but Bedokian didn't expect Chelsea to run out of steam so close to the finishing line.

Anyway, there is a mathematically possibility of a tie for the league title coming into the final match day of the regular season. Be sure to watch this space for rules of the FA Cup tie breaker should we come to that between ianrush and KingMeng.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (3 May 2014)

West Ham United FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

The last time these 2 teams met early in the season marked the beginning of Spurs' decline and eventual exit from Champions League contention. With just 2 more games to go, most Spurs fans would view this weekend fixture as a sort of grudge match.

With Sherwood's duration as manager (probably) getting shorter, he would want to (probably) leave with a big bang. However, with a long list of injuries, he would have to rely on the form of Eriksen and Kane for this one.

Big Sam would be without the services of Boriello and Tomkins, but he could probably place his hopes on Carroll, who had scored in 2 games against us before.

Pride would be the main factor in this cross-London game.

Fixture Focus - Manchester United (3 May 2014)

Manchester United vs Sunderland

This is Arrenn, guest blogging in Cool402's temporary absence.

Being a long-suffering Liverpool fan (24 years since our last EPL title, goddammit), I have to admit it's an odd but welcome feeling looking at the Premiership table for teams just under the top five struggling to qualify for the Europa league next season and not seeing my beloved Reds there. Well, the Devils have "Red" in their nick too, so I suppose there is some warped sense of continuity. But I digress...

Anyway, United comes into this match-up after an emphatic win over Norwich, a morale-boosting result since enduring the heart-breaking loss at Goodison Park. At the same time, the United faithful are heaving a sigh of relief at the recent departure of David Moyes. Sunderland meanwhile are hopefully working towards avoiding relegation and are desperate for all the points they can gather from what may be their last 3 games in the top flight for now.

Based on the line-up against Norwich, Giggs may choose to continue tinkering for the last few games. However, his squad combos may not matter to the new chief if his involvement in team management is not made permanent in some capacity. Even so, Mata's performance may have at least earned him a starting line-up alongside Rooney. van Persie's recovery seems faster than expected and he may also feature at some point in this match.

As for Sunderland, unless there are lifted suspensions or injuries during training, the squad that demolished Cardiff last week should remain largely intact for the trip to Old Trafford.

I believe it is within Man Utd's capability to keep Sunderland facing the prospect of relegation, but seeing my own less-than-stellar knack for calling out good predictions, I will not be making any punt for this game.
