Fixture Focus - Spurs (1 Apr 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Swansea City AFC

From now till the end of the season, Spurs theoretically have the easiest home stretch as we had played both home and away games with the current top 6 clubs in the table. And we have to take advantage of it.

Back at the Lane again after the midweek FA Cup fixture, Spurs will play host to the Welsh side Swansea. A full squad is expected, much like the lineup against Bolton, with probably just a couple of changes. King may be replaced and the possibility of a Lennon comeback.

Swansea will be fielding their usual squad, with the exception of Caulker as he is our loanee. Dyer, Sinclair and Graham would be leading the charge for the Swans.

A 3-pointer is a must for us in order to take back the 3rd spot, ahead of our gunning neighbours.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (FA Cup, 28 March 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Bolton Wanderers

Both teams go into this game with emotional hearts knowing what had happened the last time they played against each other.  Thankfully, Fabrice Muamba continues to make progress and we continue to pray and wish him a speedy recovery. Spurs are also doing better, having broken out of their slump on Saturday with a key point at Stamford Bridge and Bolton beat Blackburn to move out of the drop zone.

The FA Cup is a winnable tournament for us and the winners tonight will meet Chelsea at Wembley for the semi-finals.  I expect the first team to go all out for the victory.  I just hope ‘arry returns to a formation that sees players creating havoc in their preferred positions.  Bale should play on the left.  PERIOD!

Results - Game 24 - 25 Mar 2012 EPL Prediction League 2011/2012

Congrats to necroastr to be the first to cross the 100-point milestone!

Congrats also to Arrenn for notching one on the Marksmen Board.

Congrats to necroastr, Arrenn and myself for being the only 3 6-pointers of the weekend.

Yay!

p.s. There was a double-entry submission by ihawk98 and under the rules, the later submission shall override the earlier. That brings us to the next issue, the later submission for the WBA-Newcastle game was "TBA".

My interpretation is that "TBA" technically is not a submission and therefore the former prediction of "1-2" stands.

A reminder to all to double-check your predictions. Thanks.

Midweek Review - 26 March 2012

Manchester United vs Fulham

With a game in hand, we are now level with Man City on 70 points after they failed to win against Stoke. So we can pull away from Man City to 3 points if we win against Fulham, with 8 games to go.

Now mind games has began with both clubs taking a dig at each other. Tevez is back, providing an assist to win the Chelsea game.

Even the relegation battle is also heating up with Blackburn and Bolton out of the bottom 3. Now the last 3 are Wolves, Wigan and QPR. Will Wigan staged another escape again? Will QPR able to cope financial if they are in Championship next season?

Man Utd have a full squad to face except Vidic and Owen.

Man Utd is giving 1.75 handicap. The handicap kind of high, i dont think i will take it, but Man Utd for the win and go 3 points clear.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (24 Mar 2012)

Chelsea FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

A London derby, a 6-pointer game, and the last tough fixture (supposedly) in our league calendar.

Spurs will be travelling a short distance to the western part of London to face Chelsea, a team that is shaking off the after-effects of AVB's dismissal. After a poor run in the league and a life-and-death event in the FA Cup, the Lilywhites really need to focus on this game. With nothing new in the injury news, Spurs will likely field the same team that faced Stoke City over the midweek.

As for Chelsea, their next aim would be to climb back to the top 4, at our expense. Terry may lead the team against us, with Romeu returning to fitness as well.

With Arsenal gaining 12 points and us losing 10 during the past 3 weeks, we do not want to see ourselves back at 5th at the end of this season.

It is now or never.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 22 March 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Stoke City

The pursuit for a Top 4 league position continues at the Lane as we host the Trotters tonight.

This match is really hard to call after the unfortunate incident over the weekend. Many players will undoubtedly still be praying for and thinking of Fabrice Muamba as they take to the field. The question is whether our boys are mentally ready to play. After 3 league defeats, we are looking vulnerable and need to pick up points to maintain our gap over Arsenal. Lennon is still unavailable and Adebayor is a doubt as well. The midfield will probably see van Der Vaart out right and Modric in the middle. Defoe and Saha should be starting upfront as a 4-4-2 formation is likely at home.

Stoke are never an easy team to overcome and there are always the ex-Spurs old boys to worry about. Long throws into the box will be a concern as we look vulnerable to set pieces in the past few matches.

I just hope that the consummate professionals will be focused and understand that positive and lively football from us will help us do well tonight. This season could be special for all the right reasons.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (17 Mar 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Bolton Wanderers FC
(FA Cup Quarter Finals)

With a run of defeats in the league for the past few weeks, this match could be viewed either as a hassle or a psychological bonus; hassle in a way that we have to play an extra game in a non-league fixture, and psychological bonus in a way that if we win this, it will be a boost for every Yid.

With no league game till this coming Wednesday, Spurs could afford to throw in the first team to salvage some pride after being bruised over the past 3 games. Good news is almost every first teamer is fit, with the exception of Lennon. King and Adebayor may undergo late fitness tests to confirm their lineup.

Bolton will also be viewing this game like us, either as a hassle or a bonus, but it will be a more pressing concern as they are at the wrong end of the table. Coyle may employ his current up-and-in-form striker Klasnic to head their attack.

A replay is a no-go for both teams, and since it is played at the Lane, we have to make full use of our home advantage.

Weekend Review - 18 March 2012

Wolves vs Manchester United

Finally we are out of Europa League with Man City as well. And can concentrate on the domestic league with 10 games to go.

Out of FA Cup, Carling Cup, Champions League and now Europa League, this season is truly a disappointment and the only consolation left is the Barclays Premier League title.

First game is against Wolves and we expect a 3 point since Mick McCathy got the sack and an unknown call Terry Connor.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win and the handicap.

Midweek Preview - 15 March 2012

Athletic Bilbao vs Manchester United

Dont rejoice. Dont pop the champagne. Because it is not the end of the season yet despite winning against West Brom, and Manc City losing to Swansea. We are only one point ahead of Man City, we still have 9 other teams to play for, excluding the match against Man City.

And somehow the focus is now back on Europa League as Fergie want to win it. If they can score a goal and win the match on away goals rule, I would say they are lucky to progress to the next round. If not just concentrate on the last 10 matches for this disappointing season.

The 4th place seem to be heating up lately with Arsenal and Chelsea are fighting for it. In the past, all the big 4 like Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea will be in the European campaign every season. Now, Man City and Tottenham are breaking up the big 4. Liverpool is still in transition period despite winning this season Carling Cup which guarantee them a spot in Europa League next season.

A level ball handicap. No punt for this match.

Weekend Preview - 11 March 2012

Manchester United vs West Brom

Just because Vidic is injured, it doesnt mean Rio Ferdinand cannot play right? In the end, Evans and Rafael were the one in central defence which is non-existent against Athletic Bilbao. We have been doing it since we were playing in Champions League and now we are doing it again in Europa League. Guess Man Utd just like to play the hard way for the return leg in Spain.

Now back to domestic league and we need to match Man City game for game as any point lost against any opposition, Man City is ready to pounce on the championship.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win, but not the handicap.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (10 Mar 2012)

Everton FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

Barely 3 days after our FA Cup replay at home, our boys will be travelling up to Liverpool to face the blue half of Merseyside.

Spurs will definitely be without Dawson, who sustained an injury after playing against Stevenage for just a few moments. Lennon is out, too with a hamstring problem. Good news is that Parker is back from suspension, and Van der Vaart is fully fit. The only real question is who will be the striker to turn up, for there would be some reception if former Toffee Saha joins in the starting lineup.

Everton would have a few players to choose from at home, with the likes of Baines, Fellaini, Drenthe, Cahill and Osman considered likely. Moyes would be playing some home advantage after the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City had found out for themselves at Goodison Park this season.

Our neighbours have cut their gap to just 4 points, and a victory is definitely a must in order to push ourselves higher and secure that automatic group stage qualification for the Champions League.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (FA Cup, 7 March 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Stevenage FC

This replay of the 5th Round is quite honestly a nuisance.

We had problems with the bobbly pitch last time round but I am sure we will be able to play more flowing football at the Lane. Stevenage also gave a good account of themselves and will give it a real go tonight as well. They closed down our players well and had several good opportunities at goal. For Spurs, we should take the FA Cup seriously as we have a good chance to progress far in this competition. So I hope that ‘arry will go with the tried and tested formations and just get a winning result WITH NO INJURIES to key players.

Midweek Review - 8 March 2012

Manchester United vs Athletic Bilbao

Both Manchester clubs pull away from the chasing pack and it has become a 2 horse race for this season title. And the fixture on April 30, will determine where the title will goes.

Another manager has bit the dust. This season, Mick McCathy from Wolves, Steve Bruce from Sunderland and Neil Warnock from QPR has been told to leave due to poor results. The latest manager, Andre Villas-Boa from Chelsea had been given the boot. He tried to bring in new styles and wanted to change the old guard but fail miserably due to players revolt. I wonder when Roman Abramovich will understand that the current crop of players will not last the entire season like they did when he bought Chelsea in 2002.

A home match against Spanish opposition for Europa. If Man Utd can win the first leg, the return leg will be a nightmare as they have not won in Spain since 2002, provided they can win comfortably in the first leg.

Man Utd give 1 ball handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Mr White came close to a Perfect-10 this weekend! Too bad but as a consolation, he's got one correct prediction to now co-share the Marksmen Board with ihawk98.

It seems that my 6-point streak came to an end with a Liverpool loss. Still, 4 points this weekend is still very useful to me as I close the gap to my next target to a mere 2 points.

Watch out ihawk98! Here I come!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (4 Mar 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United

After the humiliating defeat to a resilient Arsenal last weekend, Spurs will be facing yet another giant. Title aspirations aside, the main aim of going back to the Champions League is still paramount in our current campaign.

Spurs are going into this game with probably a few absentees. Parker is out due to suspension, and Walker, Van der Vaart and Bale are all doubtful for this game. With this, we are having several glaring "holes" in our formation, which means Redknapp may be forced to try out another tactic.

Manchester United are coming in with injury problems of their own, and not as invincible as the seasons before. Cleverley and Valencia are out, but Rooney may make a comeback in the lineup. Also, not discounting their veterans Giggs and Scholes, who made a difference in their game against Norwich last week.

Manchester United is still a team that we had yet to break the duck, after 10 winless games at home. Hope this season, there will be a difference.
