Results - Game 28 - 29 Apr 2012 EPL Prediction League 2011/2012

Looks like necroastr has the title firmly in his grip and not letting go with a massive 16-point lead and only 2 more match weekends to go.

Congrats to necroastr, edwinsng, Everton and Bedokian for notching one more on the Marksmen Board.

Reminder: Don't forget we going to have Euro 2012 Prediction League after this EPL one.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (29 Apr 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Blackburn Rovers

With the entry of Chelsea into the Champions League final, all of a sudden, the coveted 4th place in the EPL may not be that valuable at all. The gyst of it is, should Chelsea lift the Champions League trophy, regardless of where they will end up in the EPL, only the top 3 teams will progress to this prestigious competition, whereas 4th would be relegated to the Europa League. And to make matters worse, whoever is in 4th will have to pray hard as the Champions League final would be played 1 week after the end of the EPL season.

Back to the Lane, Spurs, among the teams that are fighting for the 3rd / 4th spot, will have the easiest run-in to the end of the season. Trouble is, teams which are deemed easy (Norwich and QPR in our recent 2 games) is, in reality, proved to be our headaches. Next up will be Blackburn Rovers, who would be fighting tooth and nail to stay alive in the EPL, and may take advantage of our downturn.

I would not be focusing on the team lineup for both sides this time round. My only comment is to wish ourselves the best of luck.

Midweek Review - 1 May 2012

Manchester City vs Manchester United

3 points seperate both Manchester clubs and the much-hyped derby will decide who will be this season league champions. It just doesnt get any better than this.

3 scenerios on where the title will be heading at the end of the season:
  • Win - we will be 6 points clear and only need 1 point in the last 2 games to be champions
  • Draw - we will be 4 points clear and need a win in the last 2 games to be champions
  • Lose - Man City will go top and have to drop points in the last 2 games, Man Utd have to win the last 2 games to be champions (i know, i just trying my best to be as optimistic as possible, sigh)
I think both sets of fans will be biting their fingernails, not till the end of this game, but till the end of the season to find who will be this season champions.

We can only hope the best for Man Utd and secure the win. No punt for this game as I dont think anyone have a strong heart to last till the end of the game.

Results - Game 21 - 22 Apr 2012 EPL Prediction League 2011/2012

No one expected Liverpool to slump to a defeat at this crucial stage of the season. Kudos to cool402 for picking this match fooling everyone into thinking it was a freebie match. Heck, even cool402 himself was none the wiser!

While the league winner for this season is more or less set already barring any disasters in the final few weekends, the race for 2nd spot remains hot.

Just when I am closing in on Arrenn and ihawk98 in recent weeks, it seems that I am running out of steam as I let them pull away from me. Worse, Bedokian is fast clipping at my heels closing to gap to just 2 points!

Arrggh....

Reminder: We have Euro 2012 Prediction League coming up in June. Stick around, ya?

Weekend Review - 22 Apr 2012

Manchester United vs Everton

With 5 points lead and 4 games to go, the finishing line is near. And with the biggest game of the season coming next week, Fergie will want to ensure the game against Everton is a 3 pointer and even if we draw the game next week against Man City, we just need 1 point in the last 2 games to ensure champions.

At the other end of the table, the last spot (18th place) where relegation is concerned, teams have been changing for the last 2-3 weeks. And somehow it is even more interesting to see the teams are really fighting for survival. Blackburn, Wigan, QPR and Bolton are all fighting against relegation. At this time of the season, not advisable to go against them.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. Again no punt.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (21 Apr 2012)

Queens Park Rangers vs Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs will be heading a short distance within the capital to Loftus Road, home of Queens Park Rangers. Theoretically this should be an easy game, but with relegation woes facing our opponents, and with us fighting tooth and nail for a Champions League spot, Spurs will have to cast the word "underestimate" aside.

The formation for this game would be roughly the same as the lineup against Chelsea in the FA Cup semis, with a Gallas - King central pairing, though the latter would go for a late fitness test. Bale and Lennon as usual would be at the wings, and Van der Vaart is playing support behind our hitman-on-loan Adebayor.

We have the prospect of facing 2 of our ex-players - Zamora and Taarabt. Furthermore, the ever so famous Cisse (Djibril Cisse) is likely to cause some havoc in our defence. Faurlin and Dyer would be missing this game, though.

Not a walk in the park for this one, but a battle royale - one fight for glory, while the other for survival.

Results - Game 14 - 15 Apr 2012 EPL Prediction League 2011/2012

With a 12-point lead, necroastr is looking good to clinch this year's EPL Prediction League Title. From past history, 135 points is about what it takes to win the title and necroastr is a mere 10 points away with 4 match weekends to spare!

In our 8 years of EPL predictions, we have yet to have anyone securing it twice. So I feel it's a good thing since everybody has a chance at the title. So if you are one of those who haven't won the prediction league title, good news is that your chance is going to get better each new season coz history is on your side.

Just a reminder that post-season, we will be having the Euro 2012 Prediction League. Don't forget!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (15 Apr 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea FC
(FA Cup Semi-Final)

A break from the Premier League fixture, this FA Cup semi-final sees 2 London clubs vying for their only remaining hope of clinching a domestic silverware.

After the disastrous defeat to Norwich at home and with some new injury concerns, our central defense partnership is likely to change again for this game with a possible Nelsen-Gallas combo. Parker and Lennon are likely to start, and with the latter coming back we would see another of those quick flanking attacks that saw us so successful early in the season. Up front I would say it will likely be a Adebayor - Van der Vaart pairing.

With Barcelona looming over the horizon, Di Matteo is caught between a rock and a hard place for his selection. Ivanovic is suspended, so we may see Paulo covering for him. The main concern will be the choice of the attacking players, and Chelsea has no shortage of them - Kalou, Drogba, Mata, Torres and Sturridge. Either 3 or 4 of them will start against us.

Our only hope of cup glory for this season. Let's make it count.

Weekend Review - 15 Apr 2012

Manchester United vs Aston Villa
A loss and our lead is cut to 5 points with 5 games left. Roberto Mancini also conceded that the title is ours. Wait, we are not so easily taken in by that comment just to think that the title has already won.

This is the first time that we lost to Wigan since their promotion to Premier League in 2005.

Somehow or rather, the fixture between Man Utd and Man City is back in focus regardless of the games left to be play.

I hope the remaining 2 matches, Aston Villa and Everton, before the game against Man City will tilt to Man Utd's advantage in retaining the title.

Man Utd is giving 1.75 handicap. No punt again for the high handicap.

Midweek Review - 11 Apr 2012

Wigan vs Manchester United

Woohoo!! we are 8 points clear and thanks to Arsenal, we are one hand on the title. 6 more games to go and we can savour the 9 months of labour, though it is still a disappointment that we only have the Premier League title to go for.

The next 3 games consist of Wigan, Aston Villa and Everton, as long we win all and Man City drop points to widen the gap to 10 points, the 20th title will be heading towards Old Trafford.

Though Wigan will be fighting against relegation, they have a tough fixtures towards the end of the season. Facing Man Utd, Arsenal, Fulham and Newcastle in the last 6 games doesnt look good for Wigan.

Man Utd is giving 1.75 handicap. Again no punt which doesnt make sense against a team which is fighting relegation.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (9 Apr 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Norwich City FC

The Race for Europe (as the current theme goes) heats up with this Easter weekend, as Spurs will be facing Norwich City at home, barely 48 hours after a 0-0 draw in the northeast of England. With our neighbours securing a victory, we are once again back fourth place. The good news is, our remaining fixtures are not against anyone from the current top half of the table (except for Fulham).

With pressure and exhaustion mounting, we are likely to see the same side as the one against Sunderland, with the question of whether how the squad and formation will go. For the past 2 games we have had Sandro being replaced by Lennon, and the usual tweaks of having Van der Vaart exchanged with either Saha or Defoe. How Redknapp play today is anybody’s guess. The only doubtful player would be our pacy Welsh winger Bale, who had sustained a knock in the game 2 days ago.

Norwich emerged from a draw as well and with it they had crossed the unofficial Premier League safety of 40 points. With the tight schedule, Lambert may be rotating his squad as well, with probably a few changes from the lineup that faced Everton.

A home win is likely, and it is a must if we want to continue the pressure for the top 4.

Congrats to necroastr, Everton and Arrenn for being the 6-pointers this weekend. Could have included myself had I not switched to a ManCity win at the last minute. Arrgghh....

Weekend Review - 8 Apr 2012

Manchester United vs Queens Park Rangers

We are 5 points clear and 7 games to go. I dont think anyone will expect Man Utd to lead the table at this point of campaign.

I must admit, when the title run-in is in the final third, expect Man Utd to go into 3rd or 4th gear. The match against Blackburn, they control possession for like 15mins before scoring the first goal in 81st min. I wonder is that the true identity of Man Utd or Blackburn is just that poor afterall.

If we win against QPR, we will be 8 points clear for a few hours if Man City win, the lead will be cut to 5 points. Look like we need a favour from Arsenal.

Our objective is very simple and clear, win all the remaining 7 games, we are champions, simple as that. Along the way if the lead is extend to 10 points, the game against Man City will no longer be the match to watch. Just form GOH and welcome the champions for the 20th time.

Man Utd is giving 2 balls. Why all the handicap are so high for Man Utd? No punt.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 7 April 2012)

Sunderland vs Tottenham Hotspur
A tricky, yet winnable away tie to start the Easter weekend for us.

Sunderland have been in good form recently and came away from the Etihad Stadium last weekend with a draw.  That speaks volumes about how well coached this side is under Martin O’Neill.  The Black Cats have lost only just one of their last 8 league matches at home.  Key injuries being monitored include Lee Cattermole and Frazier Campbell.

The Easter weekend always require the juggling of the squad to keep players fresh.  This is especially crucial for Spurs as we have another tie on Monday against Norwich followed by an FA Cup semi-final the next weekend at Wembley against resurgent Chelsea.  This is crunch time and I am hopeful that we will show a degree of mental toughness so strong that we will finish the season exceptionally well.

Congrats to cool402 and edwinsng for crossing the 100-point mark this weekend.

Congrats also to ihawk98 and redherring for their 6-point haul. While I have been hot on the tail of ihawk98 (no pun intended), he soared away (sorry, can't help it) from my pursuit.

Fortunately, I still have Bedokian in my radar scope, just a mere couple of points away.

Watch out, Bedokian! Here I Come!

Midweek Review - 2 April 2012

Blackburn vs Manchester United

From the start of the season till now, we have been playing second fiddle to Man City in the league. And at the start of the year, Man Utd play football just to gain points to close the gap on Man City. Now the start of April, we are already 2 points ahead of Man City with a game in hand tonight.
If we win, we are 5 points clear. Did anyone expect that to happen at the start of the season, no?

Ewood Park is not an easy place to go as we only won 2 times out of 11 visits. And the last game we played against them was on New Year Eve and lost 3-2. They only had 3 shots on target and all went in. Now they are out of relegation zone even though QPR and Wigan won against Arsenal and Stoke respectively over the weekend.

7 games to go and we are slowly taking advantage of Man City's slump to run away with a record 20th title in sight.

Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. Not taking Man Utd at the moment.
