Midweek Review - 1 Jan 2014

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur

Happy new year and wish everyone a better year in 2014!!

We are on the rise and is currently 6th in the standings. Hopefully we can continue the momentum and challenge all 4 fonts in 2014.

We start the year with a visit from Tottenham Hotspur with a change of manager recently. And to start the year with a win.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Results - EPL Prediction 28 - 29 Dec 2013

Mackay was given the boot which threw everyone off balance as far as prediction is concerned.

Liverpool were stopped in their tracks by The Chosen One and every ManUtd fan must be lamenting why we ended up with Moyes instead?

It is starting to look like a two-horse race and we wonder if KingMeng would be the first one in PPL history to successfully defend the League Title? Or would ianrush (speedy recovery!) be the first one in PPL history to hold 2 PPL EPL titles?

We have reached the halfway point of the season and completed the last prediction of the year.

Here's wishing everyone a Happy New Year ahead and we'll see you guys next year!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (29 dec 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Stoke City FC

The 3rd game of the hectic Christmas Crunch period, we will be entertaining the Potters' arrival this Sunday. Both teams came out of Boxing Day unhappy, with us being held to a draw at home and Stoke suffered a drubbling by Newcastle.

Sherwood is looking to assert the winning ways of Spurs again, after being held to a draw at home by WBA. Paulinho is available after serving his 3-match ban, but Walker is out due to suspension. Besides the usual mid to long term injuries, almost the whole squad is there for selection.

The Potters will be without Huth and Begovic, out due to injury, and Wilson and Whelan out due to suspension.

We have to find our winning ways back, else we may not even qualify for next year's Europa.

Weekend Review - 28 Dec 2013

Norwich City vs Manchester United

We got a scare when Hull scored 2 goals in quick succession but we make a comeback win against Hull City.

We are still 8 points behind Arsenal, but we are climbing up the table notheless. Hopefully the next match against Norwich will give us another 3 points to cement our place at 5th to end 2013.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball. Take Man Utd for the win.

Fixture Focus -Spurs (26 Dec 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs West Bromwich Albion FC

Happy Boxing Day!

And today marks the second game in the infamous Christmas Crunch period in the EPL.

Dembele, who was subbed off due to an ankle injury last weekend, could make it back for today's lineup. However, Townsend would be joining the ranks of the injured, which include Vertonghen and Kaboul.

WBA has only 1 injury concern, that of the striker Anichebe. Other than that, everyone else would be eligible to board the team bus to London.

These 2 teams share something in common - both had lost their managers recently, with caretakers taking their predecessors' places.

Results, however, would likely be different between the two tonight.

Midweek Review - 26 Dec 2013

Hull City vs Manchester United

Another win but not yet climbing up the table due to other teams also win. We are now 8 points adrift from Liverpool and hopefully the "season crunch" will see us win games and move slowly up the table.

We will visit Hull City and we are expecting another 3 points.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Will like to take this opportunity to wish all PPL-iapers a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

We will have West Ham visiting us this week and we are expecting another 3 points at home to climb up the standings.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (22 Dec 2013)

Southampton FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

The 0-5 defeat at home, the departure of AVB, the exit from the League Cup....

How bad can it get?

This weekend's game marks the beginning of the annual Christmas Crunch in the EPL season. For this one, Spurs is travelling south to the port city of Southampton, home of (you guessed it) Southampton FC. New manager Sherwood is now facing injured and suspended player problems, with familiar names such as Townsend, Vertonghen and Paulinho out of his team bus list. However, he might bring in on-form Adebayor, who had displayed some class in the League Cup game against West Ham after his cold storage by AVB.

The Saints are facing injury problems of their own, with their first line keepers Boruc and Davis, and players Wanyama, Clyne and Fox, out of selection.

An unprecedented season with so many eligible teams vying for the top 4 spots, Spurs would have to obtain maximum points from this Sunday till New Year's Day, else our European dreams would come crashing to the ground even before the season ends.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (Capital One Cup, 19 December 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham
The AVB era has come to an end. There are mixed feelings from all quarters but we just move on and support the team.
Spurs will look to bounce back with an emphatic win to try to book a semi-final spot in the league cup. Michael Dawson is suspended and Jan Vertonghen is nursing an ankle injury so expect Chiriches and Kaboul to be in the heart of defence. Spurs fans will be curious if Tim Sherwood will revert to our 4-4-2 formation and return us to playing the Spurs way.
Only time will tell but I do feel that for the first time this season, players will be played in their preferred positions and I do expect us to come away with a win against the Hammers.

Midweek Review - 18 Dec 2013

Stoke City v Manchester United

Finally a win and we are climbing up the table. But Moyes' weakness is still evident as he still didnt settle down his first 11. Well, at this rate, all the players will go mad at the end of the season according to Rio Ferdinand. He mentioned that Moyes doesnt reveal which player will play.

We will be heading to Britannia Stadium to face Mark Hughes' Stoke. We had an earlier match with them which we won 2-0 at Old Trafford.

Our 2nd round opponents for European Champions Cup is Olympicaos which we believe we can progress easily to quarter final. Oh, and AVB is sacked after 2 heavy defeats from Man City and Liverpool.

Man Utd is giving 0.5 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win and progress to the semi final.

Results - EPL Prediction 14 - 15 Dec 2013

A pretty straight forward weekend for most of us as it's 6-points galore for everyone (well, almost).

I think I've said this before but it seems like the points come relatively easy this season as we are almost reaching the 100-point milestone and it's not even halfway into the season.

Things that make you go hmm.....

Fixture Focus - Spurs (15 Dec 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool FC

Liverpool will come visiting to the Lane this Sunday, just 3 points separate these two sides in a potentially charged game.

Spurs striker Soldado had just got his scoring groove back with a hat trick against Anzhi over the midweek Europa game, and AVB may keep this momentum going by starting him against the Reds.  Vertonghen is out due to injury, but we might see the return of Rose to left back.

As for the visitor side, playmaker Gerrard is out, but the one name we need to watch out for would be none other than Suarez.

Let the game begin! COYS!!!!!

Weekend Review - 15 Dec 2013

Aston Villa vs Manchester United

Unbeaten in Champions League yet not able to do well in Premier League is a mystery to me. I really hope we can get a stronger opponent for the knockout rounds so that whatever weakness that we have shown this season, it will go full blown after the 2-legged match.

We will visit Aston Villa and somehow I have this hunch that we will fall behind again. Not much expectation for the remaining of the season.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. No punt on them.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (Europa, 13 Dec 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Anzhi Makhachkala
If there ever was a time to rest the first stringers, this match is the one.
Qualification for the knock out stage is already assured and we have a vital match with Liverpool over the weekend. AVB should just play our best substitutes and the reserves so that they get some competitive playing time.
Anzhi are a team in chaos as they sit bottom of their league so they will want to salvage some pride in this match for their fans. They will also be progressing to the knock out together with Spurs so I do expect this to be a low scoring draw.

Midweek Review - 10 Dec 2013

Manchester United vs Shakhtar Donetsk

We had our first back to back defeat since 2002. Everton inflicted the first defeat in Old Trafford since 1992. And wait for this, Newcastle win for the first time in Old Trafford after a wait of 41 years. Thank you David Moyes for the unwanted record.

If David Moyes have tried to motivate players but yet still lost, we still can understand. But for 15 games, you still mentioned is a transitional period, that is a very lame excuse. His method is at best mid-table, wont challenge for title or trophies. So what if he is able to bring in a world class midfielder but not able to get the best out of the team? He would turn the world class midfielder to just an average Premier League footballer. I really hope someone out there would prove me wrong, but the performance on the field suggest otherwise.

The coming match is a dead rubber match. Whether we are finish top or 2nd, it doesnt matter to us as we wont progress to the quarter final after that. Why? Because of the festive game season that last till Feb with Capital One Cup and FA Cup.

Man Utd is giving 0.5 handicap. No punt.

Results - EPL Prediction 07 - 08 Dec 2013

The honours this weekend goes to Mr White for being the only 6-pointer. While making no progress up the ladder, Mr White nevertheless caught up with the rest of the pack.

A good result in the next round should see him leap-frogging.

Good luck!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (7 Dec 2013)

Sunderland AFC vs Tottenham Hotspur

With a midweek victory against Fulham ending our winning drought, Spurs will travel to the Stadium of Light to face off Sunderland, managed by our ex-player and ex-coach Gus Poyet.

Question now will be who will board the team bus along with AVB to the northeast? Paulinho could be one of them, but with him playing almost every game (and suffering from some off-form moments recently), will we allow him a rest this time round? Also, we hope there will be some tweak in the team to give some confidence to Soldado, who has been not-so-prolific since he came here from Valencia.

Sunderland emerged the loser in their last goal-ful game against Chelsea midweek. Though beaten, they may carry on the goalscoring momentum against us this weekend.

Goals galore? Maybe. Spurs victory? Likely. COYS? You bet!

Weekend Review - 7 Dec 2013

Manchester United v Newcastle

Guess Moyes' mentality has not changed a single bit since the appointment, and now we are back in mid table after the shock loss to Everton.

Now we will have Newcastle visting us for an early weekend kickoff and it is a resurgent Newcastle that we should be worry about. And they are also placed higher than us. Kind of weird to see Man Utd in the mid table standings and we have Southampton, Everton and Newcastle on top of Man Utd.

Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. The handicap is too high in my opinion, again no punt.

Midweek Review - 4 Dec 2013

Manchester United vs Everton

A disappointing draw with Spurs and missed the chance to go into the Top 4.

We will have Everton visiting us, and the irony is that they are 5th in the standings. Somehow i have this feeling that Moyes intend to make Man Utd into a mid-table team but did extremely well in the European competitions.

Roberto Martinez has flourished at Everton since the appointment during the off-season, and will be a difficult team to beat.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. No punt for this match.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 5 Dec 2013)

Fulham vs Tottenham Hotspur

How would Fulham react now that their manager has been sacked?
The side leaks goals and has not been performing on the pitch. Spurs had a decent outing against Man U and confidence continues to grow in the camp again. The interesting rumor coming out of the Spurs camp is that AVB may be considering a two striker formation. I also hope that he is considering playing Lennon on the right and Townsend or Lamela on the left. We had good success stretching the Red Devils on the flanks and we should have that as a plan again for this fixture.

I like to see us build on the momentum we showed on Sunday and get us back on track with a W.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (1 Dec 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United

Emerging victorious from the very northern reaches of Europe, Spurs will be meeting the red half of Manchester at the lane this coming Sunday.

Putting aside the debacle caused by the blue half of Manchester, AVB will be assembling his strongest squad yet to redeem himself. Paulinho, Defoe and Walker are rested from the midweek game, and are likely to feature on the team sheet.

Moyes may assemble the same team back from their trouncing of Bayer Leverkusen midweek, but also there is indication he might tweak his squad a bit to face us.

We have slipped to 9th in the table, but good news is only 2 points separated us from the top 4. Given the media's expectation of AVB, whether for good or worse, this is a must win.

Weekend Review - 30 Nov 2013

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United

5-0 demolition against Bayer Leverkusen and progress through to the next round with one game to spare. It is also the biggest win since Moyes take over. Now we are seeing the team to gel.

AVB need to endure a very tough week with both Manchester clubs to play with a dead rubber Europa League game to play for. If the fixture is earlier in the season, all the Spurs fans would have salivating at the prospect of doing another upset.

Man Utd is on 11 games winning run, and hopefully the run continues. The match is a level handicap. Take Man Utd for the win and get into the top 4.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (28 Nov 2013)

Tromsø Idrettslag vs Tottenham Hotspur
(Europa League Group Stage, 5th Round)

Let us forget about the humiliating defeat last weekend and focus on this coming weekend against the other half of Manchester. But alas, we have an Europa game to go through. A rubber game, I would say, for our boys are considered safe and sound going into the Round of 32, and our Norwegian opponent (remember, the Norwegian league runs from March to November instead of the usual August-to-May calendar) found themselves out of the Europa League as well as the Tippeligaen (Norwegian Premier League) with a relegation. Only pride plays a part here, with Spurs looking to cure some bruised egos (and the rare moment of playing north of the Arctic Circle) and Tromsø relishing the moments of top-flight football.

In case you may have noticed a difference in my writing style, yes, I am still hurt by that 6-0 scoreline.

Midweek Review - 26 Nov 2013

Bayer Leverkusen v Manchester United

One of my friend commented in Facebook, "Whenever Fellaini plays, Man Utd will either draw or lose.." hmm..

Anyway, the last match against Cardiff is 2 points lost instead of 1 point gained. We could have go into Top 4 for the first time this season.

We will also going into 10 games run which includes Champions League and Capital One Cup, from Dec 1 to Jan 1. That is 1 game every 3 days. We will face Tottenham at the start and at the end of the run, the irony.

With 2 games left in the Champions League and Man Utd have 8 points. They just need 2 more points to qualify for the next round. Both games end in draw?

Man Utd is eating 0.25 handicap. Take Man Utd and win half on the handicap as the last 2 away European games have all end in draw.

Weekend Review - 23 Nov 2013

Cardiff City v Manchester United

International break is over and we are full steam ahead for domestic competition and European action. We will get to see the grouping of the World Cup on Dec 6, and we cant wait for it.

We will head south in Wales to visit Cardiff. A difficult place to go as it is the place where they slaughter Man City. But Man Utd will do better since the slow start to the season.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win and climb up the table.

Disclaimer: This review is purely my opinion. Want to bet, pls bet at your own risk.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 23 November 2013)

Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur
A draw would be like a win.
Manchester City are very strong at home and have dispatched opponents with ease in the Premier League. This would be a very tough fixture for us to win. They’ll be without their captain and key centre half, Vincent Kompany. Kompany is a rock at the back for both club and country, and will be a big miss for the Civilians. They’ll likely start with a combination of Martin Demichelis and Matija Nastasic. This will come of a great advantage to us, as we look to expect a weaker Manchester City defence.
Spurs have not found a way to crack open defenses from open play. What is going for us is that our away form has been better compared to our performances at home. No surprises that we will look to keep possession and strike on the counter. We’ll be without Christian Eriksen and AVB will have a difficult decision on who to play in the number 10 role. Lewis Holtby could take up the role and would seem as likely as anybody else to fill the void.

Erik Lamela could potentially feature in the middle of a dynamic three behind our main striker, but could be a bit of a risk for such a crucial match. There has been talk that Adebayor could feature today playing off Soldado but I don’t think it will happen from the start.

Like I said in the beginning, 1 point from this fixture would be considered a good result for us.

We were so close to getting our first Perfect 10 over the weekend as cool402 was just 1 villa goal shy.

Congrats also to KingMeng (who closed the leader's gap to just 4 points) and Everton for being the other 2 6-pointers of the weekend.

Well done!

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 10 Nov 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United

Will we be able to crack open defenses from open play? This is the paramount question all Spurs fans have at the moment.
I expect this to be a tight affair as Newcastle will be buoyed by the result against Chelsea recently. Spurs do keep it tight at the back and while we do well with possession play, we can’t seem to finish in the final third. I want to see quicker passes and do hope that the likes of Eriksen and Lamela will be given an opportunity to play fluid football. Sandro is out but it is nice that Capoue is almost back to full fitness.
I do think we have enough quality to get a slender win today.

Weekend Review - 10 Nov 2013

Manchester United vs Arsenal

A disappointing draw in Spain where Man Utd still need to win another game in the Champions League to progress to the knockout round. With Bayer Leverkusen and Shaktek Donetsk to play, i guess Man Utd just like to play hard to qualify instead of qualifying at the easiest attempt.

Another game at stake where Arsenal visit us in reversal fortunes. We are now at 8th while Arsenal is top at the moment. If we win, we will climb up the table. If lose, another sad day for Man Utd.

Man Utd is giving 0.25 handicap. No punt for this game.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (7 Nov 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs FC Sheriff Tiraspol
(Europa League Group Stage)

Just one more win and we proceed to the next stage of the Europa League.

AVB came under fire for Lloris' continued stay on the pitch after taking a knock on his head during the Everton game, but for this round he would be spared from criticism as the Frenchman will not helm the goal at the Lane (due to the usual cup-league-game rotation policy). With the Toon game looming over the weekend (and knowing what they did to Chelsea), AVB would keep his trump cards tight for that game rather than the Thursday one.

The Moldovan champion is coming to this game without any injury woes, so basically we may be facing the same team that gave us a few goalmouth scares back at Moldova late last month.

Midweek Review - 5 Nov 2013

Real Sociedad vs Manchester United

An easy 3 points gain over another struggling side in Fulham and Moyes take out players early for this midweek tie against Real Sociedad.

We are 3 points away for a place in the knockout round, and I think Man Utd is able to do it. And with one eye on the weekend fixture against Arsenal, Man Utd might want to get the job done as early as possible.

Man Utd is giving 0.25 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (3 Nov 2013)

Everton FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

A tough away fixture awaits us on Sunday as Spurs will be travelling up north to Goodison Park facing an on-form Everton.

With double victories against Hull over the past week, albeit hard fought ones, some work still need to be done if we are to go for the top 4. In my opinion, though we are having one of the best defensive records in the league, we should improve more on our scoring department.

The Toffees are coming into this game with 5 wins out of the last 6 games. Martinez had stewarded the team well with minimal resources and they looked more of a top 4 challenger this season.

A mouth watering match, I must say.

COYS!

Weekend Review - 2 Nov 2013

Fulham vs Manchester United

Oh, so Moyes finally found his strongest 11 and secure the biggest win against Norwich in the Capital One Cup during midweek. But to me is the second team as there is no Van Persie, Rooney. Well, a win is a win and will see who is the next opponent in the quarter final.

We will go to Craven Cottage to play against struggling Fulham. But our away record this season is 2 wins and 2 losses. Hope it improve after the slow and disappointing start in the season.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball. Take Man Utd for the win.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (Capital One Cup, 31 October 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Hull City FC
This is Spurs vs Hull part deux!
Hull made it tough for us last Sunday and we only won because of a penalty even though we had almost 70% possession. I expect similar tactics from them today again with a 5-4-1 formation designed to frustrate the home side.
Spurs will field a fairly strong side as AVB has publicly made the war cry that we will want to win trophies. He is expected to ring the changes with a number of first team players given a well-earned rest. Hugo Lloris, Michael Dawson, Paulinho, Sandro, Andros Townsend and Roberto Soldado are among those likely to be given a breather.

Defender Danny Rose remains out with a toe problem while Younes Kaboul is also struggling to overcome an abductor injury. Midfielder Etienne Capoue is not yet ready to return as he continues his rehabilitation from an ankle injury so Lewis Holtby could play in a deeper role. Youngster Zeki Fryers is a doubt with a groin injury but he might be risked at left-back, while Brad Freidel, Erik Lamela, Nacer Chadli and Jermaine Defoe are expected to start.

Given Hull’s excellent start to the season, I expect this to be a slim win for us again.

Midweek Review - 29 Oct 2013

Manchester United vs Norwich City

A late comeback win against a struggling Stoke, and straight away people mentioned we are seeing the old Man Utd style. We will see as time will tell.

Another welcome distraction in the form of Capital One Cup and will have Norwich visiting us. As usual, Moyes will rotate the squad to gain match fitness and experience.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. Is it a norm? I have a feeling this match will go into extra time.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (27 Oct 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Hull City AFC

After a nervous win against Sheriff over the midweek Europa fixture, Spurs is now back at home welcoming the next opponent, the newly promoted Hull City, aka The Tigers.

AVB's rotation policy is somewhat predictable now, with one team playing cup games and the other playing league matches. No prizes for guessing who will be at the starting lineup this Sunday.

Hull, sitting at 9th, so far has a bumpy ride in the EPL, with 3 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws. This game will see the return of Huddlestone back to the Lane, after his summer transfer a few months ago.

I only have four words for this game - COYS!

Weekend Review - 26 Oct 2013

Manchester United vs Stoke City

Another win in the Champions League against Real Socieda, and we are 3 points away from a magical 10 to seal a place in the knockout round.

Stoke, managed by old boy Mark Hughes, is struggling as they are still getting used with the new style of management after Tony Pulis left last season. We saw another managerial casualty as Ian Holloway left by mutual consent. And Crystal Palace is looking at Tony Pulis as a replacement.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. I will go for a draw this time.

Apologies for the late update of this week's table as it's a really crazy week for me. I just stumbled back into my hotel at 7 this morning.

So anyway here it is with just about everybody getting points over the weekend and as such, not much change in the rankings.

Congrats to redherring for opening account on the Marksmen Board.

Cheers.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (Europa Cup, 24 October 2013)

FC Sheriff vs Tottenham Hotspur
This is one of those tough flights over to Europe that can take a toll on players. The good thing is that Spurs now have depth in the squad to get results in multiple competitions.
FC Sheriff is the team that consistently performs and tops the Moldova league. They have fought for 2 draws in their first 2 group stage matches and have not dropped any points.
Spurs should be resting some key players and I like to see Adebayor given the start with Harry Kane on the bench. Soldado and Defoe should just be given the day off. This is a good match to give our second stringers an opportunity to get playing time and consequently, it might be a disjointed display from our boys.
I expect a draw as a likely result.
