Weekend Review - 4 March 2012

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United

Seriously, we need 2 veterans to win the game against Norwich? Ryan Giggs scored on his 900th appearance and Paul Scholes scored his 2nd goal of the season since coming out of retirement.

Anyway, it doesnt matter as we are still 2 points behind Man City. They won comfortably against Blackburn where all 3 strikers scored. And these 3 strikers mentioned that Carlos Tevez is the catalyst in regaining back their form.

Arsenal strike a psychological blow to Tottenham's title ambitions and win the game when they are 2 goals down. With the midweek international games, we also hope to deal another blow to Tottenham this coming weekend.

A level handicap match. Take Man Utd for the win.

PS: Posting for the first time during a leap year! heh

Results - Game 25 - 26 Feb 2012 EPL Prediction League 2011/2012

Looks like the tides are in my favour as I notched yet another consecutive 6-pointer alongside, necroastr and redherring.

Congrats to necroastr to lead the table this week and another one chalked on the Marksmen Board.

Well done.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 26 February 2012)

Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur

Derby days always carry a sense of excitement that is uncomparable to any other match in any competition, including the Champions League.

Spurs will be aiming to do the double against our league arch rival this season, having won the home tie 2-1 back in October 2011.  The confidence is high in the Spurs camp, coming off a 5-0 dismantling of Newcastle in our last league match and we must capitalize on that.  Rafael van der Vaart has scored 4 goals in 3 Premier League matches against the Gunners and will be dangerous up front together with Adebayor.  ‘arry will field the strongest possible team we have and that may include Ledley King at the back as well.

This match just reeks of intense rivalry and I am hoping Adebayor spoils the party for his former team at home.  It is the fight between 3rd and 4th place in the league and will be epic.

Weekend Review - 26 Feb 2012

Norwich City vs Manchester United

A loss against Ajax and yet able to progress to the next round. And Fergie finally admit his selection blunder for fielding an inexperienced back 4 for the match. Why cant Ajax score one more goal to kick Man Utd out and let them focus on the Premiership? And now we have to face Athletic Bilbao in the last 16.

A very grim stat: Man Utd have not win any Spanish opposition in Spain since 2002.

Coming back to domestic front, they will go to Carrow Road to face Norwich where they have to win in order to catch up with Man City. With Carlos Tevez apology accepted and Mancini going to play him in 2 weeks time, it doesnt look good to me either.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball handicap. Take Man Utd for the win, i doubt they will clear the handicap.

Midweek Review - 22 Feb 2012

Manchester United vs Ajax Amsterdam

With no weekend matches and extra rest for Man Utd, it is also good for me to review ahead of this return match.

2-0 up and we are one foot in the next round. We are seeing a couple of players back like Ashley Young and Javier Hernandez, with both scoring in the first leg. The next round of opponents are either Lokomotiv Moscow or Athletic Bilbao.

However, there is another match 3 days later against Norwich. Look like another early review. Sigh

No punt on this match.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (19 Feb 2012)

Stevenage FC vs Tottenham Hotspur
(FA Cup 5th Round)

Spurs will be travelling a short distance to League One side Stevenage, our next opponent in our road to Wembley.

Being the favourites to clinch the FA Cup, and a string of
difficult league games coming, Redknapp will have to balance his side for this game. Cudicini will be at goal, with Nelsen and Dawson are likely to lead the central defence, and possibly Walker and Rose flanking them. The midfield would likely be staffed with regulars such as Lennon, Parker, Modric and Bale, and lastly Saha and Adebayor up front.

Stevenage's new manager Smith had clearly impressed so far with the team, winning 2 out of 2 games that he managed. With no injury concerns, we may see the likes of ex-gooner Freeman and ex-Spurs keeper Day starting against us.

Since 2006 we had not lost to a lower league side in the FA Cup. Expect this to be a stroll in the park, though it would be a slightly hilly park to begin with.

Midweek Review - 16 Feb 2012

Ajax Amsterdam vs Manchester United

The match is not about Rooney 2 goals win over Liverpool. But is the pre-match handshake snub from Suarez and the full time whistle celebration from Patrice Evra that got people condemning both players.

And now reports are surfacing that Liverpool considering selling Suarez for the PR damage done. Well done Suarez.

This will be our first time in Europa League, and also the first time facing Ajax in European competition.

No punt in this match.

Aiyoh.... West Brom, why you score so many goals??!! 2 can liao!!!

Congrats to cool402 and myself for the only 6 pointers this weekend as I came very close to grabbing the second Perfect-10 of the season.

This season has proved to be very tricky as we are a month away from the season's run-in and to-date we have only a solitary Perfect-10.

In other news, congrats to ihawk98 and myself (again) for getting onto the Marksmen Board again with ihawk98 leading the tally with 7 games.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 11 February 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United

The return of ‘arry to the sidelines today is a welcome boost to the team.  Let’s hope the team responds with a spirited effort in the match.

Alan Pardew is doing an excellent job with the Toon army and they are right up there fighting for the European cup places.  But they are missing seven players for their trip to Tottenham tonight.  Leon Best could be out for the remainder of the season after picking up a medial ligament injury against Aston Villa, while Steven Taylor is out with an ankle injury.  Yohan Cabaye is suspended while Cheick Tiote is still on international duty at the African Cup of Nations.  Ba and Cisse will be a handful upfront and Tim Krul has days when he is an amazing shot stopper.  Hopefully, today is not one of those days.

On our end, van der Vaart is out while Lennon and Defoe are available again.  It is likely we will see Defoe start with Adebayor with Saha on the bench.  With the home fans surely ready to sing their lungs out, I am hopeful that we do well and keep up the pressure on the both Manchester clubs.

Weekend Review - 11 Feb 2012

Manchester United vs Liverpool

To the optimistic Man Utd fans, it is a one point gained. To the pessimistic fans, it is neither a point gain nor 2 points lost. It was a game that we gift away before Chelsea reject and give it back to us. And as a result, we are 2 points behind Man City.

With 14 games left, I wont be surprised if the title is heading towards Etihad Stadium in May. However, I also realised that Man Utd have clear all the big teams even before the season hit the final third, with Tottenham and Man City to play for. A word of caution, teams that are in the lower half of the table are also fighting against relegation, hence any point gained is a step away from it.

And with the Europa Cup resumes next week, I would prefer Man Utd got dump out by Ajax just for 2 simple reasons. There is no league matches next weekend due to FA Cup and Man Utd only have Ajax to face these 2 weeks. After that it will be league matches all the way till May. Wouldnt it be good if Man Utd recharge during these 2 weeks and charge all the way?

The match against Liverpool for the second time in many weeks will be an added significant. Luiz Suarez is back after 8 games suspension and will face Patrice Evra.

Again no punt for this match.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (6 Feb 2012)

Liverpool FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

The month of February will be a tough one for us, starting with an away fixture at the red half of Merseyside, home of the legendary team Liverpool. We had knocked them 4-0 at White Hart Lane, and this round they will be baying for vengeance.

New signings Saha and Nelsen are likely to be on the team bus to Liverpool, with the former taking the place of Defoe, who is suffering from a hamstring injury. Adebayor, Van der Vaart and Lennon are all injured, but we may see the return of the King.

Liverpool will have the suspended Suarez back and their captain wonder Gerrard. With these additions, and no injuries, Dalglish will have a full squad to choose from.

We had done the double over Liverpool before and my gut feel is we will do it again this time.

Results - Game 04 - 05 Feb 2012 EPL Prediction League 2011/2012

Only a handful of us managed to get some points to a somewhat tricky weekend.

Congrats to edwinsng for pulling away at the top and congrats to Everton and myself, Voxeros, for notching another on the Marksmen Board.

Looks like ihawk98 will be my target to chase next. It will take a while to close that 14-point gap though.

Weekend Review - 5 Feb 2012

Chelsea vs Manchester United

So it need an ex-player from Man Utd to score the winner against Man City to be level on points. And we need 2 penalties to win the game against Stoke. Fergie have the confidence to say title will know where it will be heading when the derby match is play in April. If you know where im coming from, I feel that Fergie is giving a false hope to Man Utd fans.

If the team is playing well and winning games, i dont even see the need to rely on ex-players to win the game as a leverage to put Man Utd on points.

Today visit to Stamford Bridge, we will not be seeing any African players as they are on duty for Africa Nations Cup. Since taking over from Carlos Ancelotti, Andre Villas Boas had not quite make a mark as impressive as in Porto.

And as for Fernando Torres, he is still a joke in Chelsea and can be compared to a certain Andriy Shevchenko.

Again, no punt on this match.
