Results - EPL Prediction 26 - 27 Apr 2014

Somebody didn't eat enough KFC last night as Liverpool slipped to a surprise defeat to Chelsea. One of our friends had this superstition that whenever she eats KFC on matchday, Liverpool will win.

So anyway, It is still neck-and-neck between KingMeng and ianrush. With just two match weekends to go, will KingMeng be able to hold off the challenger?

So anyway, we are headed into the penultimate weekend of the 2013/2014 season. On account of the fact that we may have a tie at the end of 38 matches, we may have to use the FA Cup Final as the tie-breaker, if we come to that.

Oh and don't forget. We still have the World Cup 2014 Prediction League coming up. The opening 4 games for the tournament will show up here about a week before kick-off.

Do check back here often.

Weekend Review - 26 Apr 2014

Manchester United vs Norwich City

"...Fellaini whose only contribution to the club is the increased sales of big afro wigs..."

- JayWalk, 26 Apr 2014

Rumours are flying all over town as to whether Louis Van Gaal has signed on with ManUtd. Most of the reports deny the successful signing with only Goal.com being the only one to say that Van Gaal has agreed to the terms of the 3-year contract.

Personally, I think that is not important as it does not concern the next four games under Giggs, that will decide ManUtd's Euro fate.

This will be a new management model for the Premier League as it would be the first time, a team is managed by a team, better known as the Class Of '92. Giggs will be the leader of the pack with Butt, Scholes and Philip Neville in the squad. Beckham is out busy with his Miami football club while Gary Neville is tied up with his TV gig. Still, I won't be surprised if one of the two may eventually show up later on, even if it is just a cheer leading role.

Anyway, it was a sigh of relief that Moyes was given the boot. ManUtd counter rose dramatically on the NYSE as soon as the announcement was made. I don't give a rat's ass how poorly his sacking was handled. I was just glad that he is gone. And..... I would be even more delighted if Spurs signs him next season.

The appointment of Giggs as the caretaker manager for the last 4 games will not impact much as there will be no consequences even if we miss the Euro spot. We already suck. So it makes no difference if we suck eggs or suck dick. The positive thing out of it will be morale as after such a dismal season, it is a fresh start despite only 4 games left.

Fergie backs Giggs for manager on a permanent basis but I think after that last major screw up with Moyes, he may have already lost his right to have any say on this topic.

Every healthy player will be on their best to impress as Giggs will be cleaning out the closet. First to go in my opinion will be Fellaini whose only contribution to the club is the increased sales of big afro wigs. This fella is cancer only to be matched by David Luiz on the Chelsea side.

Lazy and non-committal.

Totally against the grain of the ManUtd spirit.

Nani is another lazy bugger but it is excusable as it is hard to push yourself when you sian half with your manager.

Hence the line is drawn between a good player and a great player. Nani is good. Rooney is great.

Rafael should be offloaded as soon as possible as he is just as ineffective as his brother. Cleverly should be given another chance as it is obvious his poor performance comes from wrong placement of his position.

I am also worried for the ageing of Fletcher, Vidic, Carrick, Ferdinand and Evra as it seems during the last couple of years of Fergie's reign, the Scotsman was on ROD mood when it comes to planning for continuity.

Of the two Asian sons of ManUtd, Shinji Kagawa and Park Ji Sun, I prefer the latter for his harder working ethics although I do concede that Kagawa has more talent.

So, the line up today is definitely De Gea between the sticks. This is a good goalkeeper despite a shaky start during his debut. The number of goal conceded does not do him justice as he was more often than not kena sabo-ed by poor defenders.

In case anyone hasn't noticed, Valencia plays only with one foot and so as long as the opponent can lock down his right, his is pretty much useless. Unfortunately, the Ecuadorian is all we have at the moment and so he'd be taking the right wing.

Van Persie is out and so Rooney, Welback will be up front with Hernandez coming on later part of the game. The attack will be supported by Mata, Carrick with Januzaj, Kagawa, Nani, Fletcher left to fight for the remaining spots on the starting line-up.

Bookies and punters are very optimistic with ManUtd, pointing to a big win tonight. However, it must be noted that The Canaries are the hungrier side. I was very impressed by their intensity against Liverpool in last week's game, especially during the second half.  It was very unlucky for Norwich not to get a point from that game. I would have given them a standing ovation at the final whistle despite losing.

Bookmakers are given Norwich a 1.5-ball Asian handicap with an even 1.95 decimal odds to clear it. In English, it means ManUtd will win this game and it will either be a 1-goal or 2-goal margin. No draw. No shock defeat. No big massive win either.

My opinion on this punt is to take Norwich to keep the defeat narrow. Bookies have been making way too much money from our irrational over-estimation of ManUtd.

Tonight shall be the night Norwich drops into the relegation zone as Fulham is pipped to win at home against Hull City. Also, a win either side from the Sunderland-vs-Cardiff game will sink The Canaries below the dotted line.

Norwich is the team I foresee going down while Cardiff or Fulham makes the great escape. Sunderland is having some sort of a second wind of late, courtesy of Gus Poyet, but I think it is too little, too late as ManUtd will nail The Black Cat's coffin shut next week.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 26 April 2014)

Stoke City vs Tottenham Hotspur

Playing for pride…that’s really what its all about at this point in the season.

It is just an outside chance for us to reach the Champions League places this season with so few matches left to play. Also, the uncertainty surrounding the future of Tim Sherwood is disruptive to say the least. Would there be a desire by the club and players to play in the Europa League again next season? A good question that only the performance on the field can answer.

Stoke has always been a tough side to break down under Tony Pulis so it remains to be seen if we can overcome the home side now that Mark Hughes is in charge. I hope that we put in another positive display and find a consistent winning eleven for the next season.

Results - EPL Prediction 19 - 20 Apr 2014

ihawk98 and I came close to a whisker to that elusive Perfect-10 as we both predicted the demise of ManUtd at Goodison Park as well as a draw for the Blue "Moustache Man Made Us Wear Red" Birds.

Still, a 9-point haul and a notch on the Marksmen Board is still a nice contribution to the kitty.

KingMeng may have floundered this weekend but he nevertheless kept his 3-point cushion at the top as challenger ianrush slipped on the same slippery fish.

Distant third place may have closed the gap from 21 points to 18 but it proved to be too little too late as this season is destined to be a two-horse race.

Next weekend will be an exciting with 2 6-pointer match ups. Hopefully, we get to predict them.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (19 Apr 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Fulham FC

Happy Easter everyone!

Spurs will play hosts to relegation strugglers Fulham at the Lane this festive weekend. Sherwood, who probably is helming his last few games, is forced to use error-prone Kaboul and Chiriches at defence after the other two centre backs, Dawson and Vertonghen, are out injured. Soldado is out, too, so we are likely to see a Adebayor-Kane pairing up front.

Holtby is not allowed to play against his parent club, which means Dejagah will be taking his place. This aside, Magath will probably send the same lineup that beat Norwich last week to North London.

With almost all hopes of Champions League football next season gone, Spurs' next best step is to preserve the precious 6th spot for Europa.

Weekend Review - 20 Apr 2014

Everton v Manchester United

We have an extra week of rest after we got knocked out by Bayern Munich. Everton could only have 3 days of rest as they lost to Crystal Palace and not able to capitalise to overtake Arsenal for the 4th and final Champions League spot.

As the way the league standings right now, we are battling with Spurs for the final Europa spot with 4 more games to go.

Man Utd is eating 0.25. Wow, i will eat it gladly.

Regardless of club affiliation or score line, the Liverpool vs ManCity game was awesome. This is how a football match should be!

Anyway, we have two chaps coming within a whisker of a Perfect-10 as redherring and edwinsng both scored 9 points.

Congrats to redherring to notch another one to now co-lead the Marksmen Board with Everton.

KingMeng remains at the top holding steadfast to his 3-point advantage. He may just be the first person in PPL history to win back-to-back EPL seasons!

Four more games to go!

p.s. Don't forget we have World Cup Prediction League 2014 hor!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (12 Apr 2014)

West Bromwich Albion vs Tottenham Hotspur

With the drubbling of Sunderland, Spurs is traveling confidently to the Hawthorns, home ground of WBA.

A brilliant performance put up by Eriksen in our previous game would mean he is likely to get a start. Soldado has recovered but will not likely be on the team bus.

Though 5 points away from the dreaded relegation zone, WBA is still technically not safe and will give their best shot at home to avoid the drop.

An interesting match-up, not for its significance but for its likely entertainment value.

Results - EPL Prediction 04 - 05 Apr 2014

Just when all hope is given up on Moyes, the joker bounces back with a thumping 4-0 away win over Newcastle. ManUtd now has the best away record in the EPL. So what now? Moyes going on to win the ECL?

I hope not coz that would mean keeping him on for another year.

My heart cannot take it.

Anyway, congrats to edwinsng for crossing the 100-point mark and overtaking me to grab 7th spot, with his solo 6 point-run.

Well done!

Weekend Review - 5 Apr 2014

Newcastle v Manchester United

As a massive underdog, Man Utd got the result and bring the fight to Munich next week.

With one eye on the Champions League match next week, Moyes will rest important players for today's match against Newcastle. I doubt it will help to improve the league standings even if we just need to overtake Spurs.

Man Utd is giving 0.5 handicap. No punt for this match.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (7 April 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Sunderland AFC

Miserable March had just passed, after garnering just 6 points out of a possible 15, with the goal difference for that month at -6. The players lost the plot, and so is the manager Sherwood, whose bust-ups had became the talk of the town.

In this Monday fixture, Spurs will be welcoming struggling Sunderland at the Lane. Soldado and Vertonghen are out, but the return of Adebayor from injury is most likely. Paulinho and Chiriches are also likely to start.

Poyet is in a conundrum as he has to deliver with his present position as Sunderland manager, as well as to have a good welcome back from the Spurs die-hards.

Being in the relegation zone, Sunderland will definitely put up a good fight, like they did against Liverpool. We shall now see who would put up a better "good fight".
