Fixture Focus - Spurs (31Jan 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Wigan Athletic FC

This fixture will never fail to entertain.

Two seasons ago, we thumped Wigan 9-1, making it one of the highest-scoring game in Premier League history. Last season, we went down to a 1-0 shock defeat, one of the few home losses incurred at White Hart Lane.

And now, chasing the leading Manchester pack, Spurs will try to get maximum points for this game. With the game set to play just hours before the January transfer deadline, we may or may not see some names on the bench. Defoe and Lennon are labelled as "doubtful" after their involvement in the FA Cup match, and King and Bale will be aiming for a last-minute fitness test. Other than these team news, it would be probable that the line-up against Wigan is 80% similar to that of the one against Watford.

Wigan's new signing Beausejour will jump straight into the fray, and Maloney and Jones are expected to return after suffering from calf strain. Besides Alcaraz, Martinez has plenty of choices from the squad, including Rodallega who downed us with a goal last season.

With just 5 points in front of 4th-placed Chelsea and 5 points behind 2nd-place Manchester United, 3 points is a must.

Midweek Review - 31 Jan 2012

Manchester United vs Stoke City

We are only left with the domestic league and Europa League to play for after been knocked out by Liverpool in the FA Cup. And we are only in the mid-season. Now is Jan, not April or May. Sigh.

The current mid-season transfers news is nothing short of rumors and speculation but none of it is real and confirmed. In this current economy market, the deals are far and few in between.

With Stoke City visiting Old Trafford and tough fixtures ahead (read: Chelsea and Liverpool), the 3 points is a must.

If Man Utd arent consistent throughout the campaign, i dont think there is a need to carry on punting for them just for that excitement.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (FA Cup, 28 January 2012)

Watford vs Tottenham Hotspur

Vicarage Road has been kind to Spurs as we have been undefeated in our last 5 matches there.

Watford will undoubtedly field their strongest side possible for the tie.  Spurs have injuries to some key players as Bale, Parker and Kaboul are nursing minor injuries.  Ledley King will of course be rested for our more important league games.  It will be up to a mixture of our youngsters and first team players to get a positive result from here so that we can avoid an unnecessary replay.  We are out of Europe and the Carling Cup so winning the FA Cup would be nice for this season.

Weekend Review - 28 Jan 2012

Liverpool vs Manchester United

Just one wrong subtitute from Arsene Wenger and it marred the defeat to a whole new level. Even our victory was a tiny fraction of the sport column. Never know that a defeat got magnified so much by the press.

We have our own problems going into Anfield this weekend for the fourth round of the FA Cup. Had the injuries for these players are long term, the justification in bring Paul Scholes back from retirement is laid to rest. Somehow, the need to look into the transfer market got stronger although is just days away from closing. I am wondering whether the remaining fit players could hold the fort until the end of the campaign.

This is the first match since the incident where Patrice Evra got racially abused by Luis Suarez. Liverpool are our fiercest rivals for many reasons, and to include this incident in will only make this match a hot-tempered affair.

Another level handicap match. Stay away from this match.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (22 Jan 2012)

Manchester City FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

For the past 2 seasons, this fixture has been a determinant of sorts. In the 2009/2010 season, we won and went into the Champions League. In the 2010/2011 season, we lost and missed the out the Champions League. Both ironically had the same scoreline and the same scorer!

Though this time it is a bit early to be the deciding factor game for the top 4 spot, there is another more serious repercussion arising from the fixture - the EPL title. Both teams are in a good position to displace Manchester United's title seat, and a draw here would only see the red half of Manchester having the most advantage.

After the humiliating defeat at home, Spurs will be pulling no punches for this return game. Adebayor will definitely be absent from this game due to loan conditions, so Defoe will likely take his place. As usual, the 5-man midfield of Van der Vaart, Bale, Lennon, Modric and Parker is on, and defence will be the usual Assou-Ekotto, Dawson, Kaboul and Walker.

The blue half of Manchester will be without the Toure brothers who are away for their African duties and Kompany, who is suspended. However, they could still pack a punch with the likes of Dzeko, Silva, Aguero, Nasri, etc., a dream FM team.

I only have 1 phrase to say for this game - Audere Est Facere, To Dare is to Do.

Weekend Review - 22 Jan 2012

Arsenal vs Manchester United

Last match against Bolton, we won but not able to sit at the top of the league for a few hours due to goal difference. And Man City again got 3 more points more than us.

This weekend could be an indication of where the title will be heading to this May, where Tottenham is currently in 3rd place. They will play Man City. And Man Utd will visit Arsenal.

Man City have finally lost back to back games for the first time since Abu Dhabi buy over the club. But one of the games is in FA Cup and doesnt really have an impact on the league.

We will welcome Smalling and Jones back to the squad, and we will also see 2 legends facing off again in this match, Henry and Scholes.

This match is a level handicap game where either team could be a winner. No punt in this match.
And also taking this opportunity to wish all PPLiapers a Happy Chinese New Year, may the Dragon Year bring more wealth and success to everyone!!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (14 Jan 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolverhampton Wanderers FC

With our victory against Everton in the game-in-hand fixture, Spurs now share the same number of points with the red half of Manchester, and just 3 points behind the blue half of the same city.

In our fourth straight home game, we will be hosting Wolves. Expect the same lineup that faced Everton for this game, with probably the exception of Livermore being swopped with Parker, who has recovered from a knee injury.

Wolves are just 1 point away from the drop zone and hoped desperately to win any game to keep their Premiership status alive. Ex-Spurs player O'Hara will miss this game but big-club killer Fletcher and Arsenal loanee Frimpong are likely to start.

With all the talk of Spurs being title contenders for this season, any Spurs fan will get elated, but for the conservative me, we better take the season one game at a time.

Weekend Review - 14 Jan 2012

Manchester United vs Bolton Wanderers

2 legends came back in action for FA Cup with contrasting fortunes. Paul Scholes came out of retirement to play for Man Utd till the end of season, he came on as a substitute against Man City, give the ball away and nearly lost the match. The other legend is Theirry Henry who came back to Arsenal on 2 months loan from New York Red Bulls and scored the winner against Leeds.

Both matches ended in winning notes for Man Utd and Arsenal. They got Liverpool and Aston Villa in the next round respectively.

And now we are back to the domestic league where we are trailing 3 points against Man City. Bolton will be coming to Old Trafford to face us. I wonder if Paul Scholes had make the right decision to come out of retirement, just because of injuries crisis in the midfield department.

Man Utd is very inconsistent at the moment. They can lost matches to Blackburn and win against Man City. At the moment, no punt for them.

Fixture Focus-Spurs (EPL, 11 January 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton

The match that was postponed due to the riots in Tottenham at the start of this season.

This is a vital match that will show our credentials as a consistent Top 4 team.  Momentum is on our side and we will get the 12th man effect at home spurring us on to get a good result.  King is unavailable due to a torn hamstring so Dawson should see action tonight.  Scott Parker is Harry’s  biggest worry ahead of the clash with the midfielder struggling to overcome a knee problem in time.  William Gallas and Sandro both picked up calf strains last week and the pair are set for a length spell on the sidelines.

Spurs have taken more points from Everton than any other team in Premier League history. They have enjoyed an excellent record against Everton at White Hart Lane, losing only twice in London since the formation of the league. Recent history is more in Everton’s favour though. Spurs have won just one of the past ten meetings in all competitions.

Winning one game at a time, and we will continue to keep pace with the blue and red halves of Manchester.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (7 Jan 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Cheltenham Town FC
(FA Cup 3rd Round)

In the first game of the season's FA Cup campaign, Spurs will be hosting League Two side Cheltenham Town FC at White Hart Lane.

For our lineup, it will be a very different Spurs team from the one that played WBA a few days ago, due to injuries and Harry's policy of resting key players for Cup games. However, we may see some players coming back from injury to play in this fixture (some sort of a "warming-up" game), like Dawson, Lennon and Pavlyuchenko. Although some of the youngsters who played in the Europa League are out on loan, we could still have Rose and Livermore in the team sheet.

The Robins will be going into this game almost injury-free, with a high possibility of fielding their loanees against us. Manager Yates is hoping they will create an upset against us.

It's a David vs Goliath game, but likely the latter will breeze through.

Weekend Outlook - 7 Jan 2012

Manchester City vs Manchester United

2 losses in a row, abit unheard of from Manchester United, and is a well deserved loss considering the starting 11 is all the familiar faces that we have seen in the past.

Coming up next is 3rd round FA Cup against Man City. It's really too early that one of us will get knocked out of the competition.

We are already halfway through the season, and Man Utd has been performing below par in all competitions. Injuries in the team is not an excuse as we have more than enough players to cover for each area. Despite both Manchester teams not able to get to the knockout round of the Champions League, there is confidence crisis in Man Utd. As such, it could also play dearly in this weekend as well if Man Utd not able to change their fortunes this season.

I shruddered to think that Man Utd get knocked out of both FA Cup and Europa League, just to concentrate on the Premier League.

No punt for Man Utd at the moment no matter what is the handicap is.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 4 January 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs West Bromwich Albion

Our first match of 2012 is the first of 4 home matches and is against a tricky Baggies team.

Back in November. West Brom lost at home to a brace from Adebayor and a goal from Defoe.  But not without first scaring us by taking an early lead.  This is the kind of game we can lose if we are not careful.  Last season we had a thrilling 2-2 draw at home, partly causing us to miss out on Champions League football this season.

Spurs have a chance to make this season memorable and maintain our quest for Champions League qualification.  The bottom line for us is to start positive, get the crowd behind the team, and we can win this.  One win at a time and we can continue our excellent string of results and show the league we mean business this season.  The draw at Swansea is testament that we must never take any team lightly.

Midweek Outlook - 4 Jan 2012

Newcastle United vs Manchester United

What a way to start 2012! All the big teams lost even on handicap and my gut feeling is that everyone want to enjoy the last day of 2011 with their families and friends, thus played with a half hearted attitude.

Our first game of 2012 is to St James Park Sport Direct Arena where Newcastle change their stadium name as Mike Ashley want to sold the naming rights for more money.

Newcastle has been slowly sliding down the table despite having an impressive start of the season.

On the other hand, Danny Wellbeck is the latest player to play in midfield. And Fergie got complacent by placing 5 youngsters on the bench against Blackburn. All other senior players got holiday off, i guess?

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. They always able to bounce back from a defeat, dont see why this time not able to. Take Man Utd for the win and the handicap.
