Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton

Its best to forget about the Newcastle debacle last weekend.

 

The consensus among fans is that we are still in transition and a Top 4 finish will be unattainable this season. Our best hopes for silverware lies in the cup competitions and we are still in 3 of them.

 

Regardless of the finger pointing that is going on now from players, coach and especially from the fans, I just hope the players realize how passionate everyone is to see the club succeed. I would hope the players take every cup match seriously and get the points needed to progress towards the final. I think the fans deserve something to cheer about.

Congrats to Bedokian and Everton for opening account on the Marksmen Board.

No change at the top as everybody stumbled to allow Everton to join 3-way traffic jam for 3rd place.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (26 Oct 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United FC

The second of 3 games in 6 days, good thing we stay put at the Lane for this match-up. A convincing win and a field day for Kane (including his goalie experience) and Lamela during the midweek as we thrashed the Greek side Asteras Tripolis 5-1.

Given their form and confidence, we may see Kane and Lamela to start against the Magpies. Regarding the defensive frailties, I hope Pochettino start off with Vertonghen and Kaboul at the back to shore it up.

Pardew's attacking men Cisse and Riverie are doubtful for this game, and other injuries such as Tiote and Ameobi are giving him headaches in team selection. It has been very long since Newcastle had won away.

With a win, we could see ourselves moving up to at least within the top 7 tonight.

Weekend Review - 26 Oct 2014

Manchester United vs Chelsea

Just when we thought we can win against West Brom, it was an awful performance that i think it was a 2 point lost rather than a point gained.

We will face against our first strong team since the appointment of Louis Van Gaal - Chelsea. With Chelsea leading the table, we need to stop them before running away, making the league boring.

Man Utd is having a level ball. This match could end in a draw. No punt.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (23 Oct 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Asteras Tripolis FC

(Europa League Group Stage)

Spurs is back into Europa action after a dismal 4-1 loss to Manchester City over the weekend, facing Greek side Asteras Tripolis at White Hart Lane.

Since the group stage began, Spurs had been held to draws against the other 2 teams in Group C. Pochettino would have to be astute and prudent to achieve maximum results from this match as well as the next 2, an EPL fixture and a League Cup game, all coming within 6 days. The pattern of having separate teams for league and cup games, with few crossovers, is the obvious tactic now, but I personally felt more could be done by “pushing the envelope” of having more crossovers to strengthen the team.

Asteras Tripolis, who is now topping Group C, came a long way from the second qualifying round to the group stage. Their current manager, Vergetis, was hailed as a rising coaching star in Greek football. Watch out for their strikers, most of them sharing Messi’s nationality.

Midweek Review - 21 Oct 2014

West Brom v Manchester United

Somehow I have this feeling that the Premier League is rooting for us due to this fixture against West Brom. We have extra rest despite there is international matches over the last 2 weeks. Moreover, we have one eye on the coming weekend match against Chelsea.

We have a lengthy injury list and a suspended Wayne Rooney. But with an Angel dictating the play, we should be confident with the 3 points.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win and the handicap.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur

The Premier League is back! And what a tough fixture for us today.

 

After two blowout losses to City last season, Mauricio Pochettino will try to keep his side focused on the match at hand, without thinking about their previous results at the Etihad. “The reality is I don’t remember the results. This is another season, another philosophy, another game and we need to arrive on Saturday with the idea to believe in our philosophy and style and try to get the points.”, said the gaffer.

 

Hugo Lloris (thigh) and Nacer Chadli (hip), our in-form players, did not feature for their countries this week but are likely fit enough to start today. Emmanuel Adebayor and Nabil Bentaleb only returned from International duty on Friday and may be rested, while Kyle Naughton (ankle) and Kyle Walker (pelvis) remain sidelined. So this is a great time for Soldado to feature as the man upfront with an unchanged midfield of Chadli, Eriksen, Lamela and Capoue.

 

I don’t expect a win against a strong side playing at home so anything more than a draw is a bonus.

Weekend Review - 5 Oct 2014

Manchester United vs Everton

Another 3 points in the bag against West Ham, though we make ourselves difficult when Rooney got sent off and West Ham got a goal back. And onwards the climb back to the summit where we will try to cut Chelsea's lead.

We will have Everton visiting us after a gruesome trip to Russia and got a vital point towards their Europa League campaign. Without any European commitment, we have more rest, and have stronger legs to last through the entire domestic marathon.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball. I would take Man Utd for the win but not the handicap as I foresee an odd-goal winner.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (5 Oct 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Southampton FC

Another home game this weekend, the Lilywhites host the Saints from the south. And it is also a reunion of sorts for Pochettino, who is facing his old club before his move to North London. 

Since our last victory against QPR back in late August, our league form has been 2 draws and 2 losses, something which we fans feel is a little bit intolerable. For who to start this weekend, one can check out those who did not start in the midweek game against Besiktas ;).

Southampton, with its majority of its squad members changed in between the seasons, are flying high in the league table, ranking just below leaders Chelsea. Koeman had really transformed his team into a juggernaut, and could give Spurs a run for the money this weekend.

Verdict? Only time will tell.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Besiktas

Euro nights start at the Lane again!

 

Besiktas are a good side – with good players that compete at the top of the Turkish Super Lig. This season, Besiktas have started well, unbeaten from their first 4 games in the League with 2 wins and 2 draws. A familiar face in Demba Ba will be leading the attack from the front for the visitors.

 

The team news for Spurs is that Kyle Walker (pelvis) remains out, while Danny Rose (knock) and Etienne Capoue (knock) are doubts, and will probably be rested even if they are fit. The team will change, that’s for sure. Ben Davies, Nabil Bentaleb, Andros Townsend & Roberto Soldado look to start.

 

This is a toughie and I expect a hard fought battle. Hopefully we are able to build on the morale boosting draw we got at the weekend and put in a good shift tonight.
