Fixture Focus – Spurs (Carling Cup Quarter-Finals, 1 Dec 2009)

manu Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur

Cup runs for Spurs are never easy and peppered with Premier League clubs along the way.  And now we face high flying Manchester United.

The last time these 2 clubs met in the Carling Cup competition was for last season finals in which Spurs lost on penalties.  This is a ripe time for revenge BUT the word around the Lane is that league position takes precedence over cup competitions now.  So it is anyone’s guess whether Harry will rest the key first team players.

Fergie has been rumored to be fielding the same side that lost to Besiktas last week in the Champions League so that his first team gets some needed rest.  I believe that Michael Owen may be used up front to bring some veteran experience on the field.

Regardless, I just want a good game and look for Spurs to get a result at a very tough place to play.

And a big welcome to Siren and what better way to open account than with a correct match score to get on the Marksmen Board right away.

Granted there is a 50-point gap between top and bottom of the table, fret not as it takes about 150+ points to win the league and so the season is still relatively young.

Perhaps difficult to win the league from the bottom at this point but a Top 5 finish is definitely possible.

Good luck and on to the next week!

Weekend Review - 28 Nov 2009

Portsmouth vs Manchester United

"I dont think even with Avram Grant at the helm, he will guide Portsmouth out of relegation."
-Gary, 28 Nov 2009

There goes our winning run since 2007. It is more of a case where Fergie places his faith in the youngsters rather than putting his First team to continue the winning run.

Next match against Portsmouth, Fergie will pitted his skills against newly appointed manager, Avram Grant. Bad timing to face Fergie.

The last time both of them met was when Grant is in charge of Chelsea in the Champions League Final match in Moscow. Man Utd won on penalties.

Ever since Portsmouth exchanged hands which i have lost count, i doubted the players' commitment in playing. Exodus of players leaving in the pre-season disrupt the rhythmn and ex-manager Paul Hart had to resort to loan signings to make up the shortfall of players. I dont think even with Avram Grant at the helm, he will guide Portsmouth out of relegation.

Portsmouth Team News: Nadir Belhadj, David James, Hassan Yebda, Papa Bouba Diop, Steve Finnan, John Utaka and Linvoy Primus are unavailable.

Man Utd Team News: Jonny Evans, Rio Ferdinand, Owen Hargreaves and John O'Shea are unavailable.

Odds and Analysis: Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (28 Nov 2009)

Aston Villa FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

4th-placed Spurs would be travelling up to the West Midlands for an away game against 5th-placed Aston Villa. And with just 3 points separating us and them, this game would present an opportunity for us to climb up higher in the table.

After a 9-1 thumping victory over Wigan last weekend, Martin O'Neill, who was present at White Hart Lane for the game, may be sweating in his sweatshirt now. Highly likely the same Spurs team against Wigan last weekend would be up against Villa this Saturday. 5-goal hero Defoe would be keen in scoring more goals to add to his tally and becoming one of the top scorers this season.

Though inconsistent this season, O'Neill's boys are also no pushovers. The striking power of Agbonlahor and Carew would prove to be dangerous, plus their midfielders Milner and A. Young would be a handful. Lastly their keeper Friedel, if he is on form, will be a tough barrier to crack.

Statistically speaking, Spurs had never fared well at Villa Park in recent years. But fret not, for Aston Villa is the only other team this season to have beaten Chelsea, besides....Wigan, so.....I leave it dangling here.

Midweek Review - 25 Nov 2009

Manchester United vs Besiktas

"Fancy facing Rubin Kazan, Unirea Urziceni, Olympiakos in the knockout rounds rather than Liverpool, Barcelona or even Bayern Munich?"
-Gary, 25 Nov 2009

So what if our scoreline against Everton is the biggest since the start of the season, where we win by the odd goal? Tottenham did even better by scoring 9 goals against Wigan.

If Nick choose Tottenham's match for prediction, all will be floored by the exact goals.

Midweek game is a dead rubber match where a single point will secure Man Utd's position as the group winner. Fancy facing Rubin Kazan, Unirea Urziceni or Olympiakos in the knockout rounds rather than Liverpool, Barcelona or even Bayern Munich?

Long gone are the days where big teams face against each other in the knockout rounds, the appeal is getting stale. Now seem to be the trend to see which big team get knock out first and get a shot at Europa League.

Expect to see changes in Man Utd's line up since Man Utd have qualifed for the knockout rounds.

Man Utd Team News: Dimitar Berbatov, Ben Foster are expected to play.

Besiktas Team News: Full team to choose from.

Odds and Analysis: Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. With a place secured in the knockout rounds and not having the first team to play, either a draw or another odd goal winner. No punt for me.

Lotsa zeroes this weekend except for necroastr, hotdog, redherring and bedokian for being the only ones with 1 correct outcome. That 3-point alone makes huge strides up the table especially with Bedokian who finally caught up with the chasing pack.

The season is still young. There is still chance to win this right from the bottom!

Cheers.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (22 Nov 09)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Wigan Athletic

After a 2-week hiatus due to internationals, we are back at home to host another visitor from Manchester - Wigan Athletic.

Let us recap on our position on the table - we are currently 4th, and played 12 games, with a total of 22 points. With the exception of Manchester City, which we hoped they would draw against Liverpool, a win against Wigan would continue to secure this last Champions League place for another week.

Spurs would be expecting most players to be back, including our midfield maestro Modric, and possibly the entire defence line (save for Bassong). Gomes would definitely start (and pray so), since our #2 keeper Cudicini was involved in a motorcycle accident.

Wigan had been having an on-off season. Never mind that they had whacked Chelsea, being whacked by Manchester United and Arsenal, and drew with Manchester City, the Wigan side threw up a really good case of expect the unexpected.

Let us not be complacent and continue our quest to Champions League football.

Weekend Review - 21 Nov 2009

Manchester United vs Everton

"The 2 weeks break is a welcome news for Fergie where majority of his players have no international duties except for Rooney and Nani."
-Gary, 21 Nov 2009

The league is only 12 games old and the Top 4 (Liverpool included) have suffered losses more than the past seasons. 12 losses altogether, that is 1 losses per game with the majority came from Liverpool.

I am not surprised to see Man Utd lose to Chelsea as Chelsea was the better team on that day. Chances were far and few for Man Utd, though they have more possession.

So after 2 weeks break due to World Cup qualifiers where France qualified for the World Cup 2010 due to a controversial handball incident by Thierry Henry that lead to goal. Look like some unknown major forces purposely want France to be at the World Cup next summar instead of Republic of Ireland.

The 2 weeks break is a welcome news for Fergie where majority of his players have no international duties except for Rooney and Nani.

Under the guidance of David Moyes, Everton have been in the top half of the table since his appointment. They have qualified for European Champions League in 2005/06 season where Liverpool won the European Cup. It's was a big news as the only association that have 5 English clubs that participating in the Champions League, but Everton never went far as they reached the qualifying rounds before doing well in the newly renamed Europa League. In the current season, Everton is still in Europa League. Where is Tottenham this season?

Man Utd Team News: Owen Hargreaves and Park Ji-sung are still out, other than that, a full team to choose from.

Everton Team News: Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, James Vaughan, Leon Osman, Steven Pinnar, Phil Neville, Victor Anichebe, Mikel Arteta and Phil Jagielka are out.

Odds and Analysis: Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. Past meetings with Everton with that handicap only yield an odd goal winner yet again. No punt for me.

Weekend Review - 8 Nov 2009

Chelsea vs Manchester United

"Man Utd is completely a different team whenever Rooney is playing."
- Gary, 8 Nov 09

Have you notice the difference between Man Utd in the first half and the second half in the Champions League match?

It's Wayne Rooney. Despite been a father and not enough sleep prior to the match, Fergie still opt him for the match except that he is on the bench.

Man Utd is completely a different team whenever Rooney is playing. The fighting spirit and the "never say die" attitude inspires his team-mates between a difference of 0 and 1 point. The match is heading to a loss when Rooney came on and resulted a 2 goals comeback. This match reminds me of the 1999 Champions League final match against Bayern Munich where Fergie bought on Teddy Sheringham and Old Gunnar Solskjaer to win the title.

Chelsea have started brillantly under the guidance of Carlos Ancelotti, where he is expected to deliver Champions League Cup to Stamford Bridge. This is the only Cup that has been eluded to Chelsea since Jose Mourinho won every domestic cup and title with Chelsea. Could this be Chelsea's year in the European Champions League?

Against the top 3 teams consist of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, Man Utd have 1 win and 1 loss in the current season. Can they do one up on Chelsea?

Chelsea Team News: Full team to choose from.

Man Utd Team News: Rio Ferdinand, Owen Hargreaves and Park Ji-sung are out. Gary Neville is suspended.

Odds and Analysis: Man Utd is eating 0.5 handicap. Im staying away this match as Chelsea is the team to beat for this season.

Disclaimer: This review is entirely on my own views and opinion. I didn’t point a gun at you to ask you to follow. If you want to bet on this game, do so at your own risk. Pls bet within limits. Good luck.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (7 November2009)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Sunderland sfc

Two losses in the Premier League have brought Spurs fans everywhere crashing down to earth.  Although we seem to be sitting pretty at 5th spot in the league, last weekend's debacle at the Emirates was truly unbearable to watch.  Add to the fact that we have not scored in the past 2 league games and you can sense a mini crisis on hand.  We need to get back to our winning ways and it must start with Sunderland.

Defoe and Lennon should both be back in the starting lineup but Bassong is out with a groin injury.  Modric is back in training but is probably a few games away from getting his match fitness back.

The bane of Spurs is that former players seem to have a knack for scoring against us so all eyes will be on Darren Bent's return to the Lane.  In the same fixture last season, Sunderland came away with the win as goals from Kieran Richardson and Djilbril Cisse were enough to get the 3 points.

A word to those handling security at the Lane this Saturday; please make sure there are no blue beach balls near the Spurs end of the field.  Darren Bent will be looking to ricochet a shot off one to get a goal against us.

With Sunderland winning only once away from home so far this season, I'm confident that Spurs will knick all 3 points and keep pace with the others in the top positions of the table.

Midweek Review - 4 Nov 09

Manchester United vs CSKA Moscow

"Man Utd only need 1 point to qualify, need to give the handicap until so high meh!!"
-Gary, 4 Nov 09

This was the 5th game in 14 days and somehow or rather, Man Utd cant get a bigger scoreline. Was it due to fatigue or was it due to Ronaldo or Tevez?

However statistics have shown that Man Utd have gained more points at this point of the season than last season. Pretty football? Nope. No Ronaldo and Tevez? Never mind. Hardworking? Yes.

Look like Man Utd can cruise to the next round without any trouble unlike previous seasons ago.

CSKA Moscow come to Old Trafford not looking optimistic as coach Juande Ramos was sacked on 26 Oct. Guess what, Ramos was appointed on 10 Sep. That's like only 46 days. Further more, CSKA is currently third in the table and is fighting with Wolfsburg and Besiktas for the next qualification spot.

Man Utd Team News: Wayne Rooney is out as he is a father at the point of writing. Congrats Rooney. Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Park Ji-sung, Ryan Giggs and Dimitar Berbatov are out.

CSKA Team News: Full squad to choose from.

Odds and Analysis: Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. Man Utd only need 1 point to qualify, need to give the handicap until so high meh!! Further more, with all the strikers are unavailable, that's left Owen. Dont expect him to be a miracle striker overnight. No punt for me.

Disclaimer: This review is entirely on my own views and opinion. I didn’t point a gun at you to ask you to follow. If you want to bet on this game, do so at your own risk. Pls bet within limits. Good luck.
