Fixture Focus - Spurs (31 Dec 2011)

Swansea City AFC vs Tottenham Hotspur

The last game of the year, and also part of the compressed set of fixtures in a period known as the "Christmas Crunch", Spurs will be travelling away for the second time in a row, this occasion across the border to Wales.

The Spurs squad bus that goes to the Liberty Stadium will be without Lennon and Pavlyuchenko for sure, but Defoe and King may have a chance to get a seat on board. Dawson could mark his return to the sidelines for this game, and Van der Vaart could also make an appearance, too. Other confirmed players will be the likely suspects of Bale, Modric, Parker, Adebayor, etc.

The Swans have an impressive record at home this season, with only 1 loss. Their in-Vorm keeper has made a lot of tremendous saves from the best of the opposition, and may do so against us, too. Their fullback Rangel would try to go for a late fitness test, and they would be without Caulker, who can't play against us due to our terms of loan.

We are now the only team in the chasing pack (or rather, the chasing "one") after the two Manchester teams in the table. We could sail by 7 points ahead of our nearest table rival Chelsea, given the same number of games played. Complacency is not an option now, if we continue to chase our Champions League dream.

Weekend Outlook - 31 Dec 2011

Manchester United vs Blackburn Rovers

Seeing Berbatov scoring a hat trick against Wigan and even Antonio Valencia chipping in one as well, shows that old timers does things pretty fast and quick as well. As a result, we are level on points with Man City with only goal difference separate us.

With the last game of the year against Blackburn, we will be seeing the last of them again on 31 March as they are currently rooted at the bottom of the table. Owners and current manager are a joke and if things doesnt improve, Kean have to go. Even if he does go at the turn of the year, there arent many miracles happen at the end of the season. The only one that I can think of is West Brom escape relegation 2004-2005 when Bryan Robson was the manager.

Man Utd is giving 2 balls handicap. Again take Man Utd for the win and the handicap.

Will like to wish all PPLiap-ers 2012 a good and abundant year ahead!!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (27 Dec 2011)

Norwich City FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

Merry belated Christmas to you all!

For our Boxing Day match, it is played a day late and away at Carrow Road, home of the newly promoted sides Norwich City FC, a.k.a. the Canaries. However, injuries had plagued the squad with Lennon and King out. Van der Vaart, Kaboul and Defoe will need late fitness tests to confirm their availability. With this squad news, Redknapp will be needing to tinker his formation once again.

For the home side, Lambert has no injury worries and therefore has a buffet of players to choose from (note - Naughton is injured, but he still can't play against us, even if he is fit, as he is on loan from us). For sure he will get the in-form striker Holt, who had played with Sengkang Marine before (yes, S-League's Sengkang Marine), in the starting lineup, along with strike partner Morison.

Spurs' record at Carrow Road is very impressive, and with us still in the chasing pack on the league leaders, a win here is a definite must.

Midweek Outlook - 26 Dec 2011

Manchester United vs Wigan

We will be facing a resurgent Wigan in Old Trafford for this Boxing Day clash. They drew Chelsea and Liverpool in the last 2 matches.

So the 6-1 mauling by Man City and the elimination in Champions League is a minor setback and in a way we go on a unbeaten run in the League.

We have a few injuries to our midfielders, mainly Tom Cleverley, Darren Fletcher, Ashley Young and Anderson. And media is already calling it a injury crisis. Er, Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs, Park Ji-sung and Nani are not midfielders?!?! We can also ask Rooney to drop down to midfield since he so like this position more than a striker, or even ask Phil Jones to be a midfield as well. Only God knows what is Fergie is doing with these 2 people playing out of position.

Man Utd is giving 2 balls handicap. Take Man Utd for the win and the handicap.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 23 December 2011)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

This London derby is poised to be a classic as it pits the 3rd and 4th place team against each other.

Spurs face a tough home game tonight.  With tactics built on pace and counter-attacking, the team is sweating on the fitness of Bale and Defoe, while Lennon is clearly out after sustaining a slight tear on his hammy.  King’s knee is swelling and the physios will keep a close watch today to see if he is ready to go.  Kaboul is available again and could partner Gallas in central defence if King is unable to start.  ‘arry must remember not to use Modric and van der Vaart out wide as they are much more dangerous when they play from the middle.  This would require the wingbacks to provide width if Bale is not able to start and hence will also need to track back when Chelsea counters.

John Terry is fit and will start for Chelsea despite being charged with racially abusing Anton Ferdinand.  Terry, who categorically denies the allegation, has shaken off the Achilles tweak he suffered during open training on Monday and will lead out the side at White Hart Lane.  Midfielder Ramires has recovered from a leg injury but defender David Luiz is still out with a knee problem, joining long-term injury victim Michael Essien on the sidelines.

The bottom line for us is to start positive, get the crowd behind the team, and we can win this.

There wont be any prediction league games this weekend due to Christmas.

Midweek Outlook - 21 Dec 2011

Fulham vs Manchester United

There is some unconfirmed news report that Man Utd could be reinstated in the Champions League competition as FC Sion fielded an ineligible player and is causing Basel and the whole of Switzerland national team to be banned from participating any competition. On the other hand, if Man Utd were to go through the back door just like that, and suay suay win the competition, I dont think it will be termed as "4 times European Champions" right?

I mean if Man Utd cant even make it to the knockout rounds, on what basis should they be reinstate and proceed to the knockout rounds? The results are final and we accept it as the performance of the players are not even at European standard at all. Heck, we can even do a Tottenham, bring 2nd team to play in Europa League to gain experience and concentrate fully on the Premier League.

We will be visiting Fulham and Stoke will visit Man City. I believe both Manchester teams will win and will still be chasing Man City with 2 points behind.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 18 December 2011)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Sunderland

The win in midweek against Shamrock Rovers has got us back into winning ways.  This weekend we take on Sunderland at the Lane and the stats are with us.  We have been unbeaten at the home for the last 5 premier league matches while Sunderland have won just one of their last 7 league matches.

A rejuvenated Sunderland team under new coach Martin O’Neil will fancy their chances after their win last week against Blackburn.  Spurs will not have the services of Kaboul as he serves his ban from last weekend’s red card while up front, ‘arry will have to decide who will partner Adebayor.  In-form Defoe will be banging for a start after helping us win in midweek.

I think this match is winnable and we surely need the 3 points to keep pace with the leaders and leapfrog Chelsea into 3rd place again.

Weekend Review - 17 Dec 2011

Queens Park Rangers vs Manchester United

From now till 16 Feb 2012, we only have Premier League games to concentrate with the only FA Cup game against Man City 0n 8 Jan 2012. And I was wondering if we could gain maximum points from all our league games during this period. Our first opponents in the Europa League is Ajax.

Oh, our toughest month is also in Feb where we face Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool subsequently with Stoke sandwiched in between.

Our first game in this period is QPR where if we win this game, we will go to the top for at least 4 hours.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball handicap. Take Man Utd for the win but not the handicap.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (15 Dec 2011)

Shamrock Rovers FC vs Tottenham Hotspur
(Europa League Group Stage)

This game might (or rather, highly likely will) be the last European game for us, as well as our Irish opponents.

Our boys would be visiting Tallaght Stadium, home of last season's Irish champions. To progress into the round of 32, we need a goal fest there AND hope that Rubin Kazan loses to PAOK. With Redknapp stating that he is focusing more on the EPL this season (and gain that Champions League spot), the youngsters again would be put to the test this time. Expect to see the likes of Rose, Livermore, Townsend, Carroll, etc., and the likely veterans to go would be Cudicini, Kaboul and Defoe.

Shamrock Rovers would also be ending their European adventure with a possible bang. Adding to this significance is that their manager, O'Neill, would be leaving at the end of this month. This could jolly well be their last burst of fire.

I would expect this as a friendly, yet entertaining match.

We have a Perfect 10!!!

The honour of the first Perfect 10 of the season goes to Mr White! Congrats as he takes his tally to co-lead the Marksmen Board with 4 correct scores.

In other news, I am off the bottom of the table! A somewhat hollow victory over somebody who is inactive in the game already. Still, it is nice to get up on the Marksmen Board too!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (11 Dec 2011)

Stoke City FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

Two Europa League teams are meeting this Sunday, one is assured of qualification to the round of 32, whereas the other's campaign may end this coming Thursday. This factor will play a crucial part in tomorrow's game, especially the lineup.

Some players are doubtful for the trip to the Britannia Stadium, like Defoe and Bale, who may need last minute fitness tests to gauge their availability. This means that our midfield-attack formation will be either a 5-1 or a 4-2 formation, depending on the former two's fitness. King is likely out so Gallas may return to the fray, along with Kaboul, Walker and Assou-Ekotto at the back. If the first team appears on Sunday, then Redknapp may have thrown the towel in for the Europa League.

Since Stoke is assured of a place in the Europa League round of 32, he may field a strong side against us for this game, and without much injury problems. Suffering from an "Europa hangover", the good news is that the Europa game will be after this match. Also, 4 former Spurs players may face against us in the likes of Woodgate, Crouch, Etherington and Palacios. Some happy reunion. :)

Though we had been "stoked" in the League Cup, this game will be different as we are sending our first team and not the younglings. Expect a thrilling clash and victory will be slim.

Weekend Review - 10 Dec 2011

Manchester United vs Wolves

Ho say liao!! Out of Carling Cup the previous week, freshly dumped out of Champions League this morning and now in Europa League for the first time, and lastly, a 3rd round FA Cup against Man City. Fergie would want to wash the bad luck with 'flower water'.

With all the midweek games on Thursday, Premier League games will be change to Sunday. We will know who will be our first opponents next coming draw. Oh, did I mention that the final will be held in Bucharest, Romania?

Low in confidence and in front of goal, knives have been sharpen against Fergie for his team selections lately. I have mentioned enough in the past few posts yet die die want to put Rooney who is going through goal drought at the moment.

Wolves would want to take advantage of our plight and gained a major scalp against us. When stakes are against Man Utd, Fergie always triumphed in style. Not sure if he can do it this time.

Man Utd is giving 1.75 handicap. Can i ask who is scoring for Man Utd at the moment and can help to clear the handicap?

It seems I can't even overtake Raynaldo, who has stopped playing over a month ago. Le Sigh.

Midweek Review - 7 Dec 2011

Basle vs Manchester United

Can anyone stop Man City? We are still 5 points behind them despite winning Aston Villa and they won against Norwich City.

Since buying Ashley Young, David De Gea and Phil Jones, Fergie relegated Antonio Valencia and Berbatov to bench warmers. Arent they are the ones that help to win the Premiership last season with the most assists and top joint scorer respectively? Why change a winning team if Wayne Rooney is not firing cylinders and Phil Jones is a defender by nature? I could understand if Ashley Young is behind the 2 strikers with Nani and Antonio Valencia attacking down the flanks. Right from the first game of the season till now, Fergie have field different players in the midfield department, but just not the above scenerio.

Midweek game against Basle will be a do or die, with a win needed to qualify. The worst case will be a draw and still qualify. Somehow, Man Utd just want to make things difficult for themselves for every single season of the Champions League.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball handicap. For some reason I have this feeling that Man Utd will end the game with a draw and qualify for the knockout rounds. Dont even think of punting for this game.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (EPL, 3 December 2011)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Bolton Wanderers

The focus is back on the League again tonight as Spurs entertain the visiting Trotters.

Spurs have won six and lost none of their last seven home games against Bolton in all competitions.  We have lost just one of our last 22 Premier League home games while Bolton have lost 15 and won just two of their last 18 Premier League away games.  So the stats do favor the home side in this tie.

For the lineup, it is heartening to know that van der Vaart has recovered from his injury and is available again.  Whether ‘arry will start him in place of the “hot” Defoe at the moment is anybody’s guess.  The fact that we had to use a few first stringers in midweek worries me as we would want our strongest side possible for this tie.

Bolton meanwhile find themselves struggling to escape the clutches of the relegation zone having lost their previous two games against West Brom and Everton to leave them just two points clear of bottom-placed club Wigan.  Kevin Davies is a dangerous striker and could cause us problems.

I hope we continue our wonderful run and continue to keep pace with the top 2 in the league.

Weekend Review - 3 Dec 2011

Aston Villa vs Manchester United

We are entering the year end festive season with low in confidence after getting knocked out in the quarter final league cup against Crystal Palace. Hope this is a blessing in disguise as there is FA Cup coming at the turn of the year.

This is also the time where we will see the real Man Utd grinding wins despite having to play 3 games in a span of one week.

We will be seeing the first team coming back in action at Villa Park. Aston Villa is traditionally a strong mid-table team with the occasional European campaign here and there. After jumping ship from Birmingham City as they got relegated last season, Alex McLeish is bringing out the best of Aston Villa since Martin O'Neill tenure. Who will ever forget the ill fated appointment of Gerald Houllier who lasted one whole season in 09/10?

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win with the odd goal and winning half the punt.
