Fixture Focus - Spurs (31 Oct 2012)

Norwich City FC vs Tottenham Hotspur
(Capital One Cup Fourth Round)

For our third away game in a row, Spurs will be travelling to Carrow Road, home of Norwich City FC, to fight it out for a spot in the next round of the Capital One Cup competition.

And also being the third away game in 7 days, though AVB will treat every game seriously, he is likely to make some changes on the players heading for the team bus. Dawson and Sigurdsson are expected to start, with probably the usual benchers such as Townsend, Livermore and Naughton given a chance at the line-up. Dembele could not make it back in time in full fitness for this game.

Former ex-Spurs man and current Norwich manager Hughton will want his team to continue their good form recently, after a victory over our neighbours and a draw with Villa. However, he may be making some changes to his usual line-up as well, with Jackson or Morison covering for Holt, and Snodgrass (who scored the equaliser against us at the Lane almost 2 months ago) will come back from injury to start in this game.

Let the game begin! COYS!

Weekend Review - 28 Oct 2012

Chelsea vs Manchester United

This will be a double header match against Chelsea as we will be facing them again for Capital One Cup.

Our defence has been a let-down this season. We are able to concede first and still able to win back the matches. And it didnt help that our central defenders of Ferdinand and Vidic are injured most of the time, and have to rely on makeshift defenders. Fergie, is time to reinforce better defenders since Vidic and Ferdinand are at the wrong end of their playing career.

For the weekend league match against Chelsea, they are currently unbeaten in the league. Furthermore, with Roberto Di Matteo on the helm, he is able to bring out the best of Chelsea players since taking over AVB.

League match: Man Utd is eating 0.25 handicap. Take Man Utd for the handicap.

Capital One Cup: Man Utd eat 0.25 again. Take Man Utd again.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (28 Oct 2012)

Southampton FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

After yet another draw in the Europa League, Spurs is going away again, this time to the southernmost EPL club on Great Britain. The home stadium of Southampton, St Mary's, is not a happy hunting ground for us, for we had not scored there for the last 6 games, and lost there for the last 4 games.

AVB will likely field veteran Friedel back into the starting lineup, and we may see the return of Bale from his paternity leave, ironically back to the ground where he started his career. Dembele is still out, and Adebayor will miss this as well. This means that almost 75% of the squad that played at Slovenia will start again.

The Saints are without Richardson and Cork, the former who took an injury in the game against Fulham last weekend. Winger Fox is rushing for a late fitness test.

After a good but wasted performance against Chelsea, Spurs will hope to put that aside and concentrate on staying within the top echelons of the EPL.

COYS!

Fixture Focus–Spurs (Europa League, 26 October 2012)

Maribor vs Tottenham Hotspur

The Lilywhites will look to shake off the disappointment of the weekend with full concentration on a competition we can do well in. And given AVB’s desire to win a trophy this season, I am sure we should see some fresh faces in the squad as we are still in the hunt to qualify to the group stages.

Maribor are sitting pretty on top of their league in Slovenia but have yet to beat an English side in competitive football. There are some injuries to key Maribor players while Spurs are still without Kaboul, Parker, BAE and Dembele. Expect Lloris to start in goal and also a start for new dad Gareth Bale. The team is beginning to understand the AVB system and do create chances. But we do need to start scoring in Europe as well. A win will help us maintain pressure on group leaders Lazio who is expected to beat Panathinaikos. The key would be to not sit back and think this is an easy fixture. We must attack from the get go.

Midweek Review - 23 Oct 2012

Manchester United vs Braga

Right, now we are getting the momentum just when the faith is waning. And we are 2nd in the league with goal difference separating between Man Utd and Man City. And what a better way to catch Chelsea when we visit them for domestic league and cup fixtures. I am thinking of writing both matches in one post since it's the same opponent but will see different teams as both bosses want to see more experience in their youths.

We will be on a double header against Braga in the Champions League. If we win these 2 matches, we will in the knockout rounds.

Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Arrenn continues to lead the table extending his lead by an additional point.

Congrats to ianrush for taking the lead in the Marksmen Board with 3 correct predictions.

Onward to the next week as the pack at the top is still relatively tight. A mistake here will mean a big shuffle in the table.

Weekend Review - 20 Oct 2012

Manchester United vs Stoke City

World Cup qualifiers are over at the moment, with the next one in March. So we are concentrating on both domestic and European fronts.

Man Utd are slowly trimming down the injured players from the list. We will see Phil Jones, Ashley Young and Chris Smalling in this fixture playing bit part role to regain fitness.

Stoke, will see the return of Michael Owen. I dont think he has earn legend status or Hall of Fame in Old Trafford, unlike Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo. Even taking the famous number 7 after Ronaldo has left for Real Madrid, he didnt match the expectation that fans had for David Beckham and Ronaldo.

Anyway, Stoke is a very technical team where they rely on set-pieces and long ball to get the result that they want. They have held Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool to a draw game.

Man Utd is giving 1.5ball handicap. No punt for this game.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (20 Oct 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea FC

An undefeated team so far this season. The team that cost us the Champions League spot this season. The team which kicked out our manager for this season.

A game of irony, if you ask me how I would describe this match.

With the international break over, EPL football is now back with this clash as the first game of the weekend. AVB mentioned that he would approach this game without an element of vengeance, but he will be without the services of the still-injured Parker, Assou-Ekotto and Kaboul. This means that we are likely to see the same side that gave us victory against Villa and Manchester United over the past weeks.

Di Matteo's side will be without Terry, who will be serving the first of his 4-match ban due to the "Terry-Ferdinand Incident". Lampard is considered doubtful as he did not start any of the international games due to calf injury.

An interesting game to watch, and after setting a record at Old Trafford, we may set another record again as bringing the first defeat for the Blues this season.

Prediction League

There wont be any prediction league games this weekend due to World Cup qualifiers.

Results - EPL Prediction 06 - 07 Oct 2012

A stumble by Mr White allowed Arrenn to sneak in from behind and retake the pole position leading by a solitary point.

A relatively easy and straight forward week as most of us got the outcome right.

Perhaps the optimist in all of us has died as we no longer pin any hope of Mark Hughes' star-studded squad making good. If they get relegated at the end of the season, it will be the most expensive team of lemon duds to go down in EPL history.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (7 Oct 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa

What a roller-coaster week we had, first our victory at Old Trafford, Manchester after 23 years, followed by a hapless draw in Olympic Stadium, Athens. Now back at the Lane, we will be facing Aston Villa on a Sunday fixture.

Spurs will be going into this one with most of the players from the Manchester United and Panathinaikos games, which means player exhaustion will be a concern. Good news for our striking front as Adebayor is back from injury, though he will likely be on the bench. Friedel will resume his goalkeeping duties from Lloris.

The Villans are seeking their first away win, and Lambert so far has no troubling injury concerns, though defender Dunne may still be out. Bent may be reclaiming his first-team spot to face his old club.

After a stuttering start, we are beginning to find our winning ways back in the EPL. COYS!!!!!

Weekend Review - 7 Oct 2012

Newcastle United vs Manchester United

Another unconvincing win against Cluj and with 2 back-to-back games against Braga, as long we win these 2 games, we will progress to the next round with 2 games to spare. I would stay neutral rather than being optimistic or pessimistic.

Optimistic in a sense that Man Utd use points rather than goals to progress. Pessimistic in another sense will be Man Utd like to shoot themselves in the foot when there is no danger or whatsoever. Pfft.

Back to league action and we will face Newcastle. We already won them in the League Cup 2 weeks ago, but back then, we use youngsters rather than the first team. Wondering if facing 2 different teams in a span of 2 weeks will make any difference.

Man Utd is giving 0.5 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (Europa League, 5 October 2012)

Panathinaikos vs Tottenham Hotspur

Coming off a high after the weekend’s victorious exertions at Old Trafford, Spurs now turn their attention to Europe as we play our second group stage match.

We will be looking to get a result from this tricky away tie. Panathinaikos are a team in turmoil and were in the Champions League qualifiers just a few weeks ago. There is reports of infighting and the club is also having financial issues.

AVB is taking this competition seriously and will field a side capable of winning the match. Lloris should get a start in goal as Friedel did not travel. If Spurs starts well tonight, I can see that we will come away with the result we want. My wish is that we win without injury to the key players.

Midweek Review - 2 Oct 2012

CFR Cluj vs Manchester United

Credit to Tottenham and AVB for ending the winless streak against Man Utd at Old Trafford for 25 years ago.

Man Utd were poor throughout, Fergie giving excuses about injury time. I wonder what has injury time got to do with the match when players does not have the hunger to win the match, let alone tracking back to help out in defence? No excuses, we let ourselves down.

Man Utd flew to Romania for the Champions League match against CFR Cluj. Last season we also faced off against Otelul Galati and secured back to back wins against them. We are hoping to do the same thing against Cluj.

Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick did not make the trip. Anders Lindegaard will continue between the posts.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. Finally a handicap that is not more than 1. Take Man Utd for the handicap.
