Weekend Review - 1 Feb 2014

Stoke City vs Manchester United

A win that we badly needed as we need to catch the leaders or the team that occupy the final 4th spot. Sounds so Arsenal, sigh!

We will head to Britannia Stadium to face Stoke. Again we expect the 3 points on board to catch up lost points.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball. Take Man Utd for the win as the last 2 matches against Stoke, in League and Capital One Cup, we won 2 clear goals.

Will like to take this opportunity to wish all PPLiap-ers Happy Chinese New Year in the year of the Horse! Huat Huat Huat!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (29 Jan 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City FC

The 6-0 drubbling is still fresh on our minds.

But things may be a little bit different now, with a different person in charge.

Since the sacking of AVB, Spurs had gone through 6 unbeaten EPL games and continued the race to the top strata of the league table. Sherwood would sure use the services of on-fire old Man City boy Adebayor up front. Townsend and Lamela are out, with Vertonghen, Sandro and Kaboul, though returned to training, are still doubtful.

Pellegrini’s men are on “Duracell” mode these few days – they just can’t stop scoring. Though there is little reprieve for us that Milner, Garcia and Nasri are out of the starting lineup, but we have to face the likes of Negredo, Silva and the omnipotent Aguero.

Welcome to White Hart Lane, Manchester City.

Midweek Review - 28 Jan 2014

Manchester United vs Cardiff City

Thanks to Sunderland for saving us the humiliation for winning in the semi-final of the Capital One Cup. Hope they will have the same mentality in winning over Man City next month.

We will welcome Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back as an opposition manager. To think that I heaved a sigh of relief not typing his name after he retired. And he brings stability to the club by progressing to the 5th round of the FA Cup and also get more wins in the Premier League to keep them for another season.

We also welcome a debut signing - Juan Mata. Will he help to salvage the remainder of the season back for Man Utd? Not sure about it as he is Chelsea's Best Player over the last 2 years before Mourinho came back for the 2nd term.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. Eh, bookmakers, Cardiff under Solskjaer leh. No punt.

Midweek Review - 22 Jan 2014

Manchester United vs Sunderland

Just as what we saw it coming, the defeat to Chelsea is inevitable. But Moyes keeps assuring us that we are not out of the title race, who is he going to kid?

With no new reinforcement from the transfer market despite seeing reports that Man Utd is making a bid on Juan Mata, we know that it wont be easy as Chelsea is also interested in Wayne Rooney. The remaining of the current season look especially long for us.

Sunderland will visit us with a slender lead from the Capital One Cup. And i really hope Sunderland will go through and face Man City in the final. I dont wish to see Man Utd get humilitate in the final.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. I literally roll my eyes when i saw the handicap. No Rooney and Van Persie. No punt.

Results - EPL Prediction 18 - 19 Jan 2014

Good morning everyone.

We have our first centurions today as KingMeng and ianrush both broke the 100-point mark to co-lead the table.

The distant third is a whopping 18 points away which seems to point, as cool402 said, towards a two-horse race.

Still, it's not over till the fat lady referee blows the final whistle. We have, in the past, seen gaps as big as 18 points being closed up and overtaken.

So keep calm and carry on.

p.s. Congrats to Everton for another correct prediction to lead the Marksmen Board at 5.

Weekend Review - 19 Jan 2014

Chelsea vs Manchester United

Finally a win to stop the 3 games losing streak. But we staring another defeat tonight as we face Chelsea where Mourinho is back to claim unfinished business.

Moyes has another unwanted record. He has not won against Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal since he managed Everton and Man Utd.

Van Persie and Rooney will not be facing against Chelsea due to injury, which is a big blow to us.

Man Utd is eating 0.75 handicap. No punt.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 19 January 2014)

Swansea vs Tottenham Hotspur
The question on everyone’s mind is still “is Timmy the real deal?”!
Since taking over from the departed AVB, our new manager has had relatively soft matchups in the League (except for the win at Old Trafford). So will we continue our good away form at Swansea this Sunday?
The Swans have a massive injury list and so the team will not be at full strength. A run of tricky results have left them 13th in the table and their last 2 home games have been losses.
For Spurs, we welcome back Vertonghen, Kaboul, Lamela and Townsend to full training. Townsend had a good practice match midweek with the U21 side so he should be ready to go for the senior side. These are matches we need to win to keep pace and I expect it to be a tough one with Spurs just edging out the home side.

Results - EPL Prediction 11 - 12 Jan 2014

Looks like we'd be crossing the century mark by next week as we have KingMeng and ianrush, neck and neck at 98 & 97 points respectively.

Kudos to KingMeng for also chalking one up at the Marksmen Board to co-lead with redherring, Everton and ianrush.

On to the next week then!

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 11 January 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace
The last time these 2 sides met, Spurs won 1-0 courtesy of a penalty kick by Soldado. The 2 sides were also managed by different managers, with both having been sacked since.
Tony Pulis has injected new life into Palace and I expect the team to be tougher to beat nowadays, just like his Stoke sides of the past.

Our injury list reads like an entire first team squad: Soldado, Lamela, Holtby, Siggs, Paulinho, Townsend, Kaboul, Vertonghen. The fact that we are missing so many will mean that Spurs back line could almost write itself. I fully expect new Toronto FC signing, Jermaine Defoe to be giving the starting nod and he will want to do all he in the last few games he has with Spurs to leave on a high note.

Whatever team we put out, this game is too important to blow because we have some points to make up. It would be a good morale booster and help get rid of the taste last Saturday`s result left behind. Timmy’s honeymoon with Spurs came crashing down at the Emirates and he will now need to prove he has the guile and tactical genius to guide this team to achieve our ambitions for this season.

Weekend Review - 11 Jan 2014

Manchester United vs Swansea City

This is a new low - we have, for the first time, lost 3 games in a row. If Sunderland keep the slender lead in 2 weeks time, we only have the Champions Cup to contend with. Records are meant to be broken, can i presume that Olympiakos will also able to take a leaf out of the glory hat and win one over Man Utd? Im not going to bet against it.

Swansea will face us again after winning at the same place in the FA Cup 1 week ago. Man Utd players have to better buck up for the remainder of the season because if they are unable to finish in the Top 4, their pay and bonuses (end of season so that included as well) will be cut 25%. That is a good excuse for Rooney to request for a transfer if we are not able to get European League next season.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball handicap. I am more fancy on Swansea winning again.

Midweek Review - 6 Jan 2014

Sunderland vs Manchester United

Woohoo! Now we have only 2 competitions to go after knocked out by Swansea in the FA Cup. Premier League can also forget about it. I wonder what is the board requirement for this season? Mid-table? Challenge for honours? European champions and dont care about domestic title?

Im going to assume that David Moyes are going to focus on the remaining 2 cup competition which is the Capital One Cup and European Cup. His record speaks for it own, as he has not won any cup competition since he is appointed as a manager.

The games are coming thick and fast at the moment and we will head to Stadium of Light to face Sunderland. Gus Poyet is the current manager at the helm after Paolo Di Canio didnt managed to last the first 10 games for this season.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. We already saw Man Utd lost 2 games in a row this new year. I presume it will be the 3rd game in a row. No handicap, no punt.

Weekend Review - 5 Jan 2014

Manchester United vs Swansea City

A bad start to the new year as we lost to Tottenham and extinguished our faint hopes in the title race. Hope we still can get into the Top 4 and continue our European campaign every season.

Swansea will come to Old Trafford for our FA Cup campaign. Wayne Rooney will not playing as he is injured.

Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. I believe Man Utd will go through but will not clear the handicap.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (4 Jan 2014)

Arsenal FC vs Tottenham Hotspur
(FA Cup 3rd Round)

And the Spurs go marching on.....

We have emerged from the Christmas Crunch with a convincing result - 3 wins and 1 draw, and thus 10 points out of the possible 12 in the bag. Next up, the game has nothing to do with the league, but it is still important nevertheless.

This Saturday, we will be entering the oldest football cup competition in the world. Yes, our used-to-take-home-often-silverware FA Cup. Besides being in the longest running cup competition, the next significance would be our opponent - none other than our "friendly" neighbours Arsenal.

Sherwood may be looking to field a side that won at Manchester just a few days ago. Adebayor and Soldado are likely to be the front pair again, even though the former had taken a knock in the 1 Jan game but is deemed OK to start.

Arsenal will be without Bendtner due to injury incurred in the Cardiff game, while Ozil and Giroud may be considered doubtful for this one.

Let us show our noisy neighbours something not to cheer about.

Fixture Focus - 1 Jan 2014

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur

A Happy New Year to all our readers and fellow bloggers of Pangpuarliap!

With the new year comes the second half of the EPL season 2013/2014, which means we will be starting to meet the 19 teams all over again.

First up, we would be travelling up north to Old Trafford, home of the Red Devils, whom we at last season came out with the famous 2-3 win. Coming out from a rare multi-goal victory over Stoke at home, Sherwood would want his boys continue the romp at Manchester.

The red half of Manchester seems to be getting their groove back, with 6 wins behind them in all competitions. One thing is for certain, they are heading higher in the table.

With both teams at same points (United are on top due to better GD), this would be considered a 6-point game for both sides.

This match marks the end of the hectic Christmas Crunch period in the EPL. Overall, from the past 3 games, we garnered 7 points (2W, 1D). 2014 is here, and the Spurs shall go marching on!

COYS!
