Fixture Focus - Spurs (3 December 2008)

Watford vs Spurs (Carling Cup, Quarterfinal )

Never, never discount the underdog!

Last night, 2 more Premier League teams fell by the wayside.  Stoke were stunned by a late penalty strike from Derby which put an end to their Carling Cup hopes.  Arsenal (or Ar5ena1 from last year's Semi-final) were 'burned' by Burnley 2-0, the same Burnley that calmly dispatched Chelsea in the previous round via a penalty shootout.  This leaves Spurs, Man United and Blackburn as the Premier League teams left in this competition.

This quarterfinal sees Harry Redknapp facing his brother-in-law, Frank Lampard Sr, on the field for the first time.  Ok, it is not a direct comparison since Lampard Sr is not the coach of Watford but a football consultant TO the coach.  But it is a notable fact nonetheless.  Watford coach, Brendan Rodgers will want to exact revenge on Spurs, as he was an assistant coach at Chelsea last season and hence was on the sidelines when Woodgate headed home our winner in extra time at the Final.

Spurs will probably continue to rest some starters as Redknapp is focused on the league position but he does love a trip to Wembley and the Final is very much in sight.  Let's hope our youngsters get it done tonight!

COYS!!!
