Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 11 May 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa

A Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers out there on Sunday. My love and appreciation of my mother is one of the few things that surpasses my love for my beloved Spurs!

We have reached the last fixture of another roller coaster season. Another season where it could have been but it didn’t. And another off-season where anything could happen with the manager and key players again.

If the speculation is anything to go by, this is likely to be Sherwood’s last game in charge at White Hart Lane. We currently lie in sixth place, three points ahead of Manchester United meaning that a draw will guarantee them a Europa League spot for next season. Prior to last weekend's disappointing defeat away to West Ham United, Spurs had won three and drawn four, so we were in relatively good form going into the match against the Hammers, which will have made the result all the more disappointing.

For Aston Villa, their Premier League status for next season is guaranteed, when it looked as though their position was getting quite precarious in the bottom half of the table. However, they have won one out of their last eight games, which was a 3-1 win over Hull City. Six out of the other seven games have ended in defeat so it hasn't been a good run for Paul Lambert's men.

I don’t expect a fiery affair so a slender win for Spurs should be on hand as we head into World Cup season next.
