Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 23 December 2011)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

This London derby is poised to be a classic as it pits the 3rd and 4th place team against each other.

Spurs face a tough home game tonight.  With tactics built on pace and counter-attacking, the team is sweating on the fitness of Bale and Defoe, while Lennon is clearly out after sustaining a slight tear on his hammy.  King’s knee is swelling and the physios will keep a close watch today to see if he is ready to go.  Kaboul is available again and could partner Gallas in central defence if King is unable to start.  ‘arry must remember not to use Modric and van der Vaart out wide as they are much more dangerous when they play from the middle.  This would require the wingbacks to provide width if Bale is not able to start and hence will also need to track back when Chelsea counters.

John Terry is fit and will start for Chelsea despite being charged with racially abusing Anton Ferdinand.  Terry, who categorically denies the allegation, has shaken off the Achilles tweak he suffered during open training on Monday and will lead out the side at White Hart Lane.  Midfielder Ramires has recovered from a leg injury but defender David Luiz is still out with a knee problem, joining long-term injury victim Michael Essien on the sidelines.

The bottom line for us is to start positive, get the crowd behind the team, and we can win this.

COYS!!!
