Fixture Focus - Spurs (28 Oct 2012)

Southampton FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

After yet another draw in the Europa League, Spurs is going away again, this time to the southernmost EPL club on Great Britain. The home stadium of Southampton, St Mary's, is not a happy hunting ground for us, for we had not scored there for the last 6 games, and lost there for the last 4 games.

AVB will likely field veteran Friedel back into the starting lineup, and we may see the return of Bale from his paternity leave, ironically back to the ground where he started his career. Dembele is still out, and Adebayor will miss this as well. This means that almost 75% of the squad that played at Slovenia will start again.

The Saints are without Richardson and Cork, the former who took an injury in the game against Fulham last weekend. Winger Fox is rushing for a late fitness test.

After a good but wasted performance against Chelsea, Spurs will hope to put that aside and concentrate on staying within the top echelons of the EPL.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (Europa League, 26 October 2012)

Maribor vs Tottenham Hotspur

The Lilywhites will look to shake off the disappointment of the weekend with full concentration on a competition we can do well in. And given AVB’s desire to win a trophy this season, I am sure we should see some fresh faces in the squad as we are still in the hunt to qualify to the group stages.

Maribor are sitting pretty on top of their league in Slovenia but have yet to beat an English side in competitive football. There are some injuries to key Maribor players while Spurs are still without Kaboul, Parker, BAE and Dembele. Expect Lloris to start in goal and also a start for new dad Gareth Bale. The team is beginning to understand the AVB system and do create chances. But we do need to start scoring in Europe as well. A win will help us maintain pressure on group leaders Lazio who is expected to beat Panathinaikos. The key would be to not sit back and think this is an easy fixture. We must attack from the get go.

Midweek Review - 23 Oct 2012

Manchester United vs Braga

Right, now we are getting the momentum just when the faith is waning. And we are 2nd in the league with goal difference separating between Man Utd and Man City. And what a better way to catch Chelsea when we visit them for domestic league and cup fixtures. I am thinking of writing both matches in one post since it's the same opponent but will see different teams as both bosses want to see more experience in their youths.

We will be on a double header against Braga in the Champions League. If we win these 2 matches, we will in the knockout rounds.

Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Results - EPL Prediction 20 - 21 Oct 2012

Arrenn continues to lead the table extending his lead by an additional point.

Congrats to ianrush for taking the lead in the Marksmen Board with 3 correct predictions.

Onward to the next week as the pack at the top is still relatively tight. A mistake here will mean a big shuffle in the table.

I wait with baited breath.

Weekend Review - 20 Oct 2012

Manchester United vs Stoke City

World Cup qualifiers are over at the moment, with the next one in March. So we are concentrating on both domestic and European fronts.

Man Utd are slowly trimming down the injured players from the list. We will see Phil Jones, Ashley Young and Chris Smalling in this fixture playing bit part role to regain fitness.

Stoke, will see the return of Michael Owen. I dont think he has earn legend status or Hall of Fame in Old Trafford, unlike Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo. Even taking the famous number 7 after Ronaldo has left for Real Madrid, he didnt match the expectation that fans had for David Beckham and Ronaldo.

Anyway, Stoke is a very technical team where they rely on set-pieces and long ball to get the result that they want. They have held Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool to a draw game.

Man Utd is giving 1.5ball handicap. No punt for this game.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (20 Oct 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea FC

An undefeated team so far this season. The team that cost us the Champions League spot this season. The team which kicked out our manager for this season.

A game of irony, if you ask me how I would describe this match.

With the international break over, EPL football is now back with this clash as the first game of the weekend. AVB mentioned that he would approach this game without an element of vengeance, but he will be without the services of the still-injured Parker, Assou-Ekotto and Kaboul. This means that we are likely to see the same side that gave us victory against Villa and Manchester United over the past weeks.

Di Matteo's side will be without Terry, who will be serving the first of his 4-match ban due to the "Terry-Ferdinand Incident". Lampard is considered doubtful as he did not start any of the international games due to calf injury.

An interesting game to watch, and after setting a record at Old Trafford, we may set another record again as bringing the first defeat for the Blues this season.

Prediction League

There wont be any prediction league games this weekend due to World Cup qualifiers.

Results - EPL Prediction 06 - 07 Oct 2012

A stumble by Mr White allowed Arrenn to sneak in from behind and retake the pole position leading by a solitary point.

A relatively easy and straight forward week as most of us got the outcome right.

Perhaps the optimist in all of us has died as we no longer pin any hope of Mark Hughes' star-studded squad making good. If they get relegated at the end of the season, it will be the most expensive team of lemon duds to go down in EPL history.
