Fixture Focus–Spurs (Europa Cup, 28 Feb 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur v Dnipro

Dnipro at home on Thursday night and a much bigger game for Tim Sherwood than he would’ve wished to be the case this time last week.

Injuries mean that the back four picks itself. Dnipro’s speed on the break means that Brad, presumably, is unlikely to be in for a quiet night. Konoplyanka is the man to watch so whoever plays at right back is in for an interesting evening. Naughton has said he wants to play first team right back and tonight he should show whether he can hang with the best.

This is our only chance of silverware this season and it remains to be seen whether Sherwood feels it is worth competing on the cup front as well as challenging for the lucrative Champions League spots. We have the squad to do both but the question remains, do we have the tactics to make it so. Will Soldado show that he is the striker worth every penny of his transfer fee? The gaffer has spoken to him and let’s hope “the soldier” feels fired up for tonight now that Defoe is off to Canada.

Midweek Review - 25 Feb 2014

Olmpiakos vs Manchester United

1 down, 11 to go. And the irony is that we are challenging Liverpool for the 4th spot as they are currently occupying it with 11 points apart.

We will head to Greece for our 2nd Round Champions League against Olmpiakos. Ever since the Greece crisis, their domestic football also suffered as a result. Hopefully we can get a favourable result to bring back home to kill off the tie, or just kill the tie at Karaiskaki Stadium so that we can focus our domestic results before worrying who are our next opponents.

Man Utd is giving 0.25 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 23 February 2014)

Norwich City vs Tottenham Hotspur

No surprise that the chase for the Top 4 positions is so tight this season.

Spurs needs to bounce back from a lethargic performance in the Ukraine on Thursday with a tricky visit to Carrow Road. Our away form has been excellent and we will want to get our points to keep pace with the pack. Key players who didn’t travel for the match against Dnipro should be back so expect to see Lloris, Adebayor, Walker and Lennon suit up against the Canaries. Adebayor has scored 8 goals in 13 shots on target and I like to see him continue this streak.

Norwich will be playing for their manager as Chris Houghton’s job is at risk so this will be a tricky match although I see us getting a slender win in this match.

Weekend Review - 22 Feb 2014

Crystal Palace v Manchester United

We have 10 days of rest since the last match against Arsenal. Now is the final stretch of the games to see where we stand after the dust have dusted. 2/3 in the season, i can only say despite being in a transition season, Moyes has fail miserably.

We will go to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace where they have not lost at home over the last 3 games.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball handicap. Take Man Utd for the win. Moyes, pls do something miracle for the remaining 12 games.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (20 Feb 2014)

FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk vs Tottenham Hotspur

(Europa League Round of 32, 1st Leg)

Europa League season is back again after the winter break, and this time Spurs will be heading eastwards towards Dnipropetrovsk, home of FC Dnipro who is managed by our ex-manager, Juande Ramos.

Sherwood would be getting a taste of European football for the first time as head coach after the departure of AVB. With winning ways back again after the thrashing of Newcastle, the trip to Ukraine may include rested Dawson and Soldado, both of whom did not feature in the last EPL game.

Dnipro's manager Ramos knew all too well what potential Spurs will have, since he had been in charge at the Lane for a few months. However, he still has former Liverpool target Konoplyanka in his team, who could pose a threat to us in his versatile forward role.

Back to Europe, back to Europa, and back in business.

COYS!!!!!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (12 Feb 2014)

Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur

The midweek fixture will see us travelling up to the northeast to St James’ Park, stronghold of the Toon Army. Spurs have never won there for almost a decade.

The players available to Sherwood would be similar to the game against Everton, with Sandro, Lamela and Chiriches  being the only long term first teamers not on the team bus. Adebayor could continue with his goal scoring form, and we hope to see a partnership with Soldado up front.

Newcastle has been dreary lately with only 1 win out of the past 7 games. Pardew also faced a long list of unavailable players with Tiote, Colocccini, Debuchy and Remy out, but he could call on the services of Cisse, Gouffran and Obertan who just returned from injuries.

A team that needed to get out from a winless rut versus a team that needed to continue chasing the top 4. Who will prevail?
