Fixture Focus - Spurs (22 Apr 2017)

Chelsea FC vs Tottenham Hotspur 

(FA Cup Semi Finals)

This game is seen by many as a proxy of the ongoing battle for the EPL title. Both sides will definitely pull no punches in the team selection for this one, even though there is a midweek EPL fixture ahead.

Needless to say, Pochettino will be fielding the first team of Spurs, and names such as Lloris, Vertonghen, Alli, Eriksen, Kane, etc. will be on the team sheet.

And Conte will be fielding his best, too, so expect to see Luiz, Costa, Hazard, etc. in the lineup as well.

This will be an interesting game to watch.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (12 Mar 2017)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Millwall FC

(FA Cup Quarter Finals)

Spurs will host League One side Millwall for the quarter finals of the FA Cup. The last time these two met was back in the old Division One days in 1990.

With no fixture till the next weekend, we may see Pochettino deploying his entire first team for this game. The chance of a silverware this season could well be from this competition.

Millwall's football run for this year has been so far so good; they are the only team in the EPL-League Two range not to have lost any game in 2017, and they are hoping that this form would continue for this match.

An exciting FA Cup game it will be.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (19 Feb 2017)

Fulham FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

(FA Cup 5th Round)

Spurs will be travelling to Craven Cottage, home of Fulham, for the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Pochettino would be rotating some players for this fixture since there is a return match with Europa opponents Gent coming up in a few days. Expect Janssen, Trippier and Winks to start the game.

Fulham manager Jokanovic could be capitalising on the recent down-form of Spurs and cause an upset.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Wycombe Wanderers

(FA Cup Fourth Round)

This FA Cup match marks the first ever meeting between these two sides in any competition.

Spurs is expected to field a much weaker squad for this game, given that Kane, Alderweireld and Rose are out injured and there is a league match coming up on 1 Feb.

The League Two side are without Bloomfield and Southwell, but according to manager Ainsworth that it would "be a brilliant day" for them.

(FA Cup, Third Round)

This season's FA Cup campaign for Spurs has started, and first on the list would be at home against Championship side Aston Villa.

Spurs are going into this game following a string of 3 league victories during the infamous Christmas Crunch period, including the famous win against Chelsea. There might be a slight shake up to the lineup, as we all know our priority is still on the EPL. I would expect this Sunday's game to be made up of 1/2 to 3/4 of first teamers.

Aston Villa, who are currently 12th in the Championship, are well-rested for this coming fixture since their last game against Cardiff on 2 Jan 2017. With no major injury concerns, they would probably be sending their first team to the Lane.

Weekend Review - 22 May 2016

Crystal Palace vs Manchester United

We ended the season in fifth after winning against Bournemouth in the last game. We also missed out on the Champions League due to goal difference with Man City despite finishing same points with Man City.

We will end the season with FA Cup final against Crystal Palace. If we win, West Ham will take the place in next season Europa League. If Crystal Palace win, they will be in the Europa League.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

FA Cup Prediction - 22 May 2016

TIE BREAKER MATCH

FA CUP FINAL: SUN 22/5 Crystal Palace vs Manchester United at 12.25am SIN/HKT 

Tie breaker rule which is as follow:

1) Predictions are to be made as per normal (90 minutes) except that we have to also predict (i) which side scores the first goal and (ii) the time of the first goal scored e.g. at 37th minute.

2) 3 points will be awarded for a correct outcome and 1 point each for correct score on each side.

3) If after (2) we have a tie, then the person who predicts the correct side to score the first goal gets an additional 0.5 points. If not, we have a winner decided (4).

4) If after (3) we still have a tie, then the person who predicts the correct time (or closest) of the first goal will get an additional 0.25 points. If not, we have a winner decided (4.1).

• 4.1) There will be a Before-Over-After rule should the difference in predicted time of players who are tied (between predicted and actual time of first goal scored) be identical, the timing before actual time shall trump the timing after actual time.
• Example: A predicts first goal scored at 40th minute. B predicts first goal scored at 50th minute. If actual score is scored at the 45th minute i.e. both A and B timing difference is 5 minutes, A win B with the Before-Over-After rule.

5) If after (4.1), we still have a tie, the top 2 will play another tie breaker in the Champions League Final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Prediction rules are the same from (1) to (4.1) except that it will be silent tie-breaker where the top 2 will not be making public their predictions. The predictions will be emailed to PPL admin whom will reveal them after kick-off. 

6) Prediction Format: Example: 1. Voxeros 2-1, Spain, 37th minute.

For the 5th round of the FA Cup, Spurs is playing hosts to visitors Crystal Palace.

Spurs, who had just played the Europa game during the midweek, is likely to make some changes to Thursday's lineup with the regular starters, since there is no EPL game until the next weekend. Lloris is out injured so Vorm will take up his space.

Crystal Palace, which has been plagued with injuries recently, are set to welcome some back, at least to the bench. Sako, Bolasie and Ledy are just a few that could possibly feature.

There has been talk about Spurs going for three pieces of silverware this season. However, my humble opinion would be to go one game, one campaign, at a time.

After a narrow win against Sheffield United in the Capital One cup semi-final first leg, Spurs turn their attention to another cup tie this weekend as we face the Foxes at the Lane.

 

Pochettino knows the importance of cup wins for Spurs and to be still competing in 3 cup competitions is testament to his football philosophy so far.

 

I expect a lively tie and I don’t fully understand the gaffer’s intention to feature Adebayor again. I can only assume this is part of his man management skills in motivating the best out of players.

 

We will only see evidence of whether it is working on the field of play.

(FA Cup 3^rd Round Replay)

The draw at Turf Moor brought the 3^rd round FA Cup tie to the Lane. Having just lost to Crystal Palace over the weekend, we need some morale booster before another EPL game just 3 days away.

Pochettino has the whole squad at his disposal, with the exception of Mason and Lamela (injury), and Bentaleb is away for international duty in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Though Burnley has a record of playing through 7 games with an unchanged side, Dyche had hinted that he may make some long-awaited rotations when facing off against us.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (FA Cup, 5 January 2014)

Burnley vs Tottenham Hotspur 

The two sides met each other no more than 20 days ago at the Lane where Harry Kane and Erik Lamela got us the win in a league match against a tough, fighting Burnley.

 

This time round we play in the FA Cup and we play away at Turf Moor. This is by no means an easy game and we should not be overconfident.

 

We should be shuffling our midfield around as Benteleb has gone off to help Algeria in the African Cup of Nations, while Mason and Lamela remain iffy. I expect Stambouli and Dembele to get the nods with Pochettino definitely wanting to avoid a replay and get the job done tonight.

 

Confidence is high for Spurs and we just need to keep focus.

And the Spurs go marching on.....

We have emerged from the Christmas Crunch with a convincing result - 3 wins and 1 draw, and thus 10 points out of the possible 12 in the bag. Next up, the game has nothing to do with the league, but it is still important nevertheless.

This Saturday, we will be entering the oldest football cup competition in the world. Yes, our used-to-take-home-often-silverware FA Cup. Besides being in the longest running cup competition, the next significance would be our opponent - none other than our "friendly" neighbours Arsenal.

Sherwood may be looking to field a side that won at Manchester just a few days ago. Adebayor and Soldado are likely to be the front pair again, even though the former had taken a knock in the 1 Jan game but is deemed OK to start.

Arsenal will be without Bendtner due to injury incurred in the Cardiff game, while Ozil and Giroud may be considered doubtful for this one.

Let us show our noisy neighbours something not to cheer about.

Weekend Review - 23 Feb 2013

Queens Park Rangers vs Manchester United

We are into the last 8 of the FA Cup and will face either Chelsea or Middlesbrough. The FA Cup still holds the romance of upsets where lower league teams knock out Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham.

Talking about treble, it is not likely to happen. Because in the Champions League, no team from the same nationality have won in successive season. Last season was won by Chelsea, so this season winner which i suspect is from Italy. And only 2 teams from Italy left: AC Milan and Juventus.

We will go to Loftus Road Stadium to face QPR. With 12 point lead and 12 games to go, we will not rest our laurels. Even if have to relegate QPR and making the owner quit, we will do that even though i find the owner statement very ridculous as the money he spend in buying the club and players, and want to quit if they got relegated, it seem to me that he is printing money for free.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win and extend the lead to 15 points.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (27 Jan 2013)

Leeds United AFC vs Tottenham Hotspur

(FA Cup 4th Round)

This weekend we would be travelling to Elland Road, home of Championship side Leeds United, who at one time was an European football powerhouse, for the FA Cup 4th round.

Spurs are hit heavily by injuries and/or illness, with Kaboul and Vertonghen unavailable for this game, and Gallas facing a late fitness test. This means we may be seeing the same side that started against Manchester United last weekend.

Leeds so far are without injuries and this means they would have plenty of players to choose from. One interesting face-off would be the duel between Bale and the Leeds rightback Byram.

A stroll in the park? Unlikely, but I expect Spurs to go through.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (FA Cup 3rd Round, 5 January 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Coventry City

The two sides have met three times in the FA Cup, with Spurs winning twice, and Coventry City winning once. They have also met five times in the League Cup, with Spurs winning three times, and Coventry City winning twice.

Tonight should see the return Scott Parker to the starting line up. I would anticipate AVB to field a side comprising of youngsters with a few key starters on the bench. This is a competition that we can honestly win and our 8 FA Cup titles is testament to that.

Based on the form we have been showing, I expect a ‘W’ at home to kick start our FA Cup campaign for this season.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (15 Apr 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea FC

(FA Cup Semi-Final)

A break from the Premier League fixture, this FA Cup semi-final sees 2 London clubs vying for their only remaining hope of clinching a domestic silverware.

After the disastrous defeat to Norwich at home and with some new injury concerns, our central defense partnership is likely to change again for this game with a possible Nelsen-Gallas combo. Parker and Lennon are likely to start, and with the latter coming back we would see another of those quick flanking attacks that saw us so successful early in the season. Up front I would say it will likely be a Adebayor - Van der Vaart pairing.

With Barcelona looming over the horizon, Di Matteo is caught between a rock and a hard place for his selection. Ivanovic is suspended, so we may see Paulo covering for him. The main concern will be the choice of the attacking players, and Chelsea has no shortage of them - Kalou, Drogba, Mata, Torres and Sturridge. Either 3 or 4 of them will start against us.

Our only hope of cup glory for this season. Let's make it count.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (FA Cup, 28 March 2012)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Bolton Wanderers

Both teams go into this game with emotional hearts knowing what had happened the last time they played against each other.  Thankfully, Fabrice Muamba continues to make progress and we continue to pray and wish him a speedy recovery. Spurs are also doing better, having broken out of their slump on Saturday with a key point at Stamford Bridge and Bolton beat Blackburn to move out of the drop zone.

The FA Cup is a winnable tournament for us and the winners tonight will meet Chelsea at Wembley for the semi-finals.  I expect the first team to go all out for the victory.  I just hope ‘arry returns to a formation that sees players creating havoc in their preferred positions.  Bale should play on the left.  PERIOD!
