Midweek Review - 30 Sep 2009

Manchester United vs Wolfsburg

"I wonder if Giggs is 35 years old or 25 years old."
-Gary, 30 Sep 2009

I wonder if Giggs is 35 years old or 25 years old. Both goals were provided by him. Where are Nani and Valencia when they should be doing more assists than Giggs? Look like they have to learn a couple of lessons from the evergreen wizard. Oh, and he have make a record of 813 Premier League appearances since his debut against Everton in 1991.

Midweek game against Wolfsburg. The German team will be playing in England for the first time. Interestingly, Man Utd have not lose at home in European ties since a 1-0 defeat against AC Milan in 2005.

Since winning the Bundesliga title for the first time last season, Wolfsburg had not been producing results this season. Too bad, former coach Felix Magath was not around anymore as he went to Schalke 04 at the end of last season. Current coach is Armin Veh who won Bundesliga title with FC Stuttgart in 2007.

Man Utd Team News: Edwin van der Sar and Owen Hargreaves are out.

Wolfsburg Team News: Full squad to choose from.

Odds and Analysis: Man Utd is giving 1.25. Since they have not lost at home and have no intention to let Wolfsburg break the record, i think it's safe to say take Man Utd for the win.

Weekend Review - 26 Sep 2009

Stoke City vs Manchester United

"If Man Utd didnt win, i wonder when the youngsters will feature again."
-Gary, 26 Sep 2009

From the statistics that shown on the left, we can see that the youngsters might have struggled against Wolves despite the win. Especially down to 10 men with 60 mins to go.

If Man Utd didnt win, i wonder when the youngsters will feature again.

Stoke City have done exceptionally well to stay up the last season. To stay in the Premier League in the second season or even in the long run, the task is harder. Current season, Stoke is doing well with 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. Not bad for a team that have to rely on loan signings rather than a transfer budget to get players.

Stoke City Team News: James Beattie and Ricardo Fuller are out.

Man Utd Team News: Edwin van der Sar and Owen Hargreaves are out. Paul Scholes to serve second match suspension.

Odds and Analysis: Man Utd is giving 1.25. Take Man Utd to clear the handicap.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (26 September 2009)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Burnley burnley

The last time both sides met, it was in the 2008/09 Carling Cup semi-final.
The first leg of that semi-final was played at White Hart Lane and Spurs took a (what we thought was a comfortable margin) 4-1 lead to the second leg at Turf Moor.  Burnley surprised everyone by almost knicking the final from us before Pavlyuchenko and Defoe made sure we progressed to the final after extra time.
Owen Coyle will definitely be looking for that same fighting spirit from his boys this time round, although he will be without striker Martin Paterson and midfielder Chris McCann.  Harry will see a familiar face though as Pompey striker David Nugent is on loan to Burnley and should start in this match.
Spurs are certainly struggling with a defensive crisis that has seen clean sheets elude us most of the season so far.  With King and Woodgate still out, the central defense should comprise of Bassong and Dawson (who is starting his first league match this season after returning from injury).  We’re still missing Modric but I know we have enough firepower up front to get us the 3 points.  Peter Crouch has been pleading to start after making his case with a midweek hat-trick in the Carling Cup 3rd round tie at Preston North End.  Dare I say that perhaps it is time to rest Keano?

Fixture Focus - Spurs (23 September 2009)

Preston North End vs Tottenham Hotspur

Injury crisis...is what both teams are facing at the moment.

This Carling Cup 3rd round tie is by no means a "sure win" for Spurs.  2 recent losses to the Manchester United and Chelsea have brought us down to earth with a thud.  And no one suffered a bigger blow than Sebastien Bassong, whose tangle with Anelka left him falling hard to the ground resulting in a concussion and a swollen eye.  This adds to the defensive crisis with Woodgate and King also out.  The good news is that Dawson is ready to go and we will probably be starting Corluka as a central defender as well, with Hutton and BAE as the wingbacks.  I would love for 'arry to try playing Lennon on the left and starting Bentley on the right wing.  Keane is completely

Preston themselves are also short of players as they have injuries throughout their squad.

But the firepower of Spurs upfront should get us a result and a much needed confidence booster after 2 bad losses in the league.

Midweek Review - 23 Sep 2009

Manchester United vs Wolves

"This is by far the most exciting and interesting derby i have ever seen over the years."
- Gary, 23 Sep 2009

This is by far the most exciting and interesting derby i have ever seen over the years. In terms of excitement, i would rate more than 100 marks for it. But in terms of Man Utd performance, i will give a F. Rio Ferdinand and Ben Foster gifted 2 goals to Man City even though Christmas is not here yet. Michael Owen may have scored the goal that is virtually the last kick of the game and earned him an instant hero status, he still have alot to prove when the season enters Nov and Dec period.

Last time when the time is up yet opponents still able to score and win the game, Fergie complained up and down. Now when the time is up yet Man Utd goes on to win the game, Fergie keeps quiet. I wont be surprised if Fergie complains when the same thing happen against Man Utd.

Wolves is up next but this time is Carling Cup match. Mick McCarthy seem to have the undisputed honour of getting teams relegated every time they got promoted. Wolves is considered lucky right now as Portsmouth is still winless after 6 matches. My prediction for relegated teams will be Wolves and Portsmouth. The other final team will be some teams involved in the relegation fight and have to rely on final day results.

Man Utd Team News: Second team will be involved, so expect to see Tomasz Kuszczak, Darren Gibson, Zoran Tosic and Federico Macheda to get some match practice. I think Fergie will put Michael Owen right from the start.

Wolves Team News: Jody Craddock, Stephen Ward, Kevin Foley and Chris Iwelumo are out.

Odds and Analysis: Man Utd is giving 1.5. Take Man Utd for the win and to clear the handicap.

Disclaimer: This review is entirely on my own views and opinion. I didn’t point a gun at you to ask you to follow. If you want to bet on this game, do so at your own risk. Pls bet within limits. Good luck.

Kudos to ianrush for taking pole position this weekend.

No one managed to get on the Marksmen Board this week as the goals were more abundant than we all expected.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (20 Sep 2009)

Chelsea FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

Yes, our unbeaten run has been stopped by none other than Manchester United, and as usual they had done so after we had the goal advantage.

This weekend we would be facing one of the remaining two undefeated (and un-drawn) side - our west London neighbours Chelsea. The only advantage we have over them is that our players are rested, while theirs had just gone through a narrow victory over Porto in the midweek Champions League game.

Our lineup would be more or less similar to the one against Manchester United last weekend, only question being who are to start, especially our front players (choose 2 from the following 4 - Keane, Defoe, Crouch and Pavlyuchenko).

Nevertheless, with current Chelsea's form (and the "Drogba Last Minute Goal Effect"), we definitely need more than a bus to stop these blue juggernauts.

Weekend Review - 20 Sep 2009

Manchester United vs Manchester City

"Is it me or a concidence that Man City's strikers are either on medical leave or suspended for playing truant to his ex-club?"
-Gary, 20 Sep 2009

3 points in the bag. 7 more to go in order to qualify for the knockout round.

The upcoming match against Man City will be the most anticipated match over the weekend for various obvious reasons.

First and foremost, it will be Man City's way of getting players that they want, literally presenting a blank cheque to another club. Players like Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and John Terry were been targeted by Man City. In the end, none of the above mentioned are Man City's players. Secondly, Man City's new found riches have threatened to break up the strangehold of the Top 4 and the Premiership title.

Lastly, Man City want to use this match as a gauge of whether dominance and power could be shifted from the red half of Manchester to blue half of Manchester. I would ask them to try again when Fergie retires. Mark Hughes is good but not to the standard of Fergie yet. Mark Hughes is not a disciplinarian like Fergie and would be extremely difficult to contain the ego of all the star players.

Is it me or a concidence that Man City's strikers are either on medical leave or suspended for playing truant to his ex-club?

Man Utd Team News: Paul Scholes is suspended. Edwin van der Sar and Owen Hargreaves are out.

Man City Team News: Emmanuel Adebayor is suspended. Carlos Tevez, Roque Santa Cruz, Robinho are out injured.

Odds and Analysis: Man Utd is giving 1 ball. Take Man Utd for the odd goal win and to end Man City's 100% winning run.

Midweek Review - 16 Sep 2009

Besiktas vs Manchester United

"...Man City will be the dark horse for the title challenge as they dont have European campaigns this season."
-Gary, 16 Sep 2009

Man Utd seem to have a habit of doing a come back against Tottenham. And Paul Scholes forever get send off for clumsy challenges, perhaps he need to learn how to tackle at the appropriate time. Does anyone notice Owen didnt feature for the last 2 matches even though he was on the bench?

Both Man City and Tottenham have gone through tests against the Top 4 over the weekend and the results are out. I think Man City poses a bigger threat than Tottenham, after disposing Arsenal 4-2. They will be against Man Utd the next weekend for the second test. Good thing Tevez is injured. As the season is taking shape, i do think that Man City will be the dark horse for the title challenge as they dont have any European campaigns this season.

Speaking of which, Man Utd will begin their European Cup campaign against Besiktas. With one eye on the upcoming derby against Man City, Man Utd will want to start the campaign on a positive note. They will be facing Besiktas for the first time although Man Utd have only won once against Turkish opponents on 4 occasions.

Besiktas Team News: Ibrahim Toraman is out.

Man Utd Team News: Edwin van der Sar and Owen Hargreaves are out.

Odds and Analysis: Man Utd is giving 1 ball. I think Man Utd will win this match but by the odd goal. No point punting for this match as you only get back what you have punt.

Results - Games 12 - 13 Sep 2009 EPL Prediction League 2009/2010

Either we put too little faith in ManUtd or we had too much respect for Tottenham Hotspur as most of us didn't guess and away victory for the Red Devils.

It was a weekend where a mere 3-points from one of the 2 outcomes was enough to move you up the ladder.

I did with my last minute change for a Fulham victory as I climbed 3 places as a result.

Kudos to ianrush for notching yet another Markmen Board score to co-lead with ihawk98.

Well done!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (12 Sep 2009)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United

This upcoming match would be a real test of our claim to be one of the Top 4 teams this season. We have managed well so far, winning our first 4 games out of 4, and remains one of the 3 sides who have yet to lose a game (touch wood!).

Our usual defenders (Woodgate and Dawson) are out. Bassong seemed to have recovered from his injury picked up over the last weekend while playing for Cameroon. King may be starting (hopefully), while Modric is out. Fortunately, the addition of Kranjcar from Portsmouth may boost our midfield side. (Trivia - Kranjcar started out his first game for Portsmouth at the Lane, 2 years back)

And enough of the debacle of past Spurs-Man Utd games (which I shall not mention), this would be an exciting game to watch.

Keep it up and COYS!!!!!

Weekend Review - 12 Sep 2009

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United

"Look like Man Utd's playing style has changed."
-Gary, 12 Sep 2009

3 words for the last match against Arsenal: Si bei lucky. Man Utd really rode their luck on this match. Darren Fletcher fouled Andrei Arshavin in the box but no penalty is given. Arsenal was not given a last-min equaliser and the last of all, the own goal by Abou Diaby. Tough luck Arsenal.

Look like Man Utd's playing style has changed. No longer will we get to see the waves upon waves of attack when we are a goal down especially in the last 15 minutes of the game. The way Man Utd play now is very normal that there is something missing in Man Utd's playing style. Something that a player that can change the course of a game. Players like Eric Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham or even Ole Gunner Solskjaer are those that can change the course of the game when they came on. Now who do we have? Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen or Dimitar Berbatov? I dont think anyone in the squad currently could change the course of the game.

And currently, there is one team that have players that can change the course of a game will be Tottenham Hotspur. 4 wins out of 4 and Harry will like to continue the winning streak against Man Utd. Tottenham players that can change the course of a game will be Aaron Lennon, Luka Modric, new-signing Niko Kranjar and the 3 fearsome strike force of Defoe, Keane and Crouch. Who is Roman Pavlyuchenko again?

So far, Harry have been able to nick results from Man Utd. Most notable will be those in the FA Cup run where he managed Bournemouth, West Ham and Portsmouth. But Man Utd's results against Tottenham will be nothing short of remarkable where both results are from comebacks. Down from 2 goals, Man Utd came back from the second half to score 5 goals.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News: Gomes, Luka Modric, Ledley King, Jermaine Jenas, Jonathan Woodgate and Matt Dawson are out.

Man Utd Team News: Edwin van der Sar, Owen Hargreaves, Rafael and Gabriel Obertan are out. Rio Ferdinand might be back to partner Vidic.

Odds and Analysis: Man Utd is giving 0.25. This is the second test for Tottenham Hotspur of whether they could challenge the Big 4 in the Premier League where they have win against Liverpool in the opening day of the campaign. A draw could be the best result for both teams. No punt for me.

Disclaimer: This review is entirely on my own views and opinion. I didn’t point a gun at you to ask you to follow. If you want to bet on this game, do so at your own risk. Pls bet within limits. Good luck.

EPL Prediction League

There wont be any prediction games this weekend due to World Cup qualifiers.
