Fixture Focus - Spurs (26 September 2009)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Burnley burnley

The last time both sides met, it was in the 2008/09 Carling Cup semi-final.
The first leg of that semi-final was played at White Hart Lane and Spurs took a (what we thought was a comfortable margin) 4-1 lead to the second leg at Turf Moor.  Burnley surprised everyone by almost knicking the final from us before Pavlyuchenko and Defoe made sure we progressed to the final after extra time.
Owen Coyle will definitely be looking for that same fighting spirit from his boys this time round, although he will be without striker Martin Paterson and midfielder Chris McCann.  Harry will see a familiar face though as Pompey striker David Nugent is on loan to Burnley and should start in this match.
Spurs are certainly struggling with a defensive crisis that has seen clean sheets elude us most of the season so far.  With King and Woodgate still out, the central defense should comprise of Bassong and Dawson (who is starting his first league match this season after returning from injury).  We’re still missing Modric but I know we have enough firepower up front to get us the 3 points.  Peter Crouch has been pleading to start after making his case with a midweek hat-trick in the Carling Cup 3rd round tie at Preston North End.  Dare I say that perhaps it is time to rest Keano?

COYS!!!
