Fixture Focus–Spurs (Capital One Cup, 31 October 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Hull City FC
This is Spurs vs Hull part deux!
Hull made it tough for us last Sunday and we only won because of a penalty even though we had almost 70% possession. I expect similar tactics from them today again with a 5-4-1 formation designed to frustrate the home side.
Spurs will field a fairly strong side as AVB has publicly made the war cry that we will want to win trophies. He is expected to ring the changes with a number of first team players given a well-earned rest. Hugo Lloris, Michael Dawson, Paulinho, Sandro, Andros Townsend and Roberto Soldado are among those likely to be given a breather.

Defender Danny Rose remains out with a toe problem while Younes Kaboul is also struggling to overcome an abductor injury. Midfielder Etienne Capoue is not yet ready to return as he continues his rehabilitation from an ankle injury so Lewis Holtby could play in a deeper role. Youngster Zeki Fryers is a doubt with a groin injury but he might be risked at left-back, while Brad Freidel, Erik Lamela, Nacer Chadli and Jermaine Defoe are expected to start.

Given Hull’s excellent start to the season, I expect this to be a slim win for us again.

Midweek Review - 29 Oct 2013

Manchester United vs Norwich City

A late comeback win against a struggling Stoke, and straight away people mentioned we are seeing the old Man Utd style. We will see as time will tell.

Another welcome distraction in the form of Capital One Cup and will have Norwich visiting us. As usual, Moyes will rotate the squad to gain match fitness and experience.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. Is it a norm? I have a feeling this match will go into extra time.

Well, looks like redherring is on a roll with a notch on the Marksmen Board for the second consecutive week. Will there be a three-peat the next round? Let's wait and see.

Congrats to ianrush who continues to extend his lead like a runaway train.

Congrats also to Mr White for debuting on the Marksmen Board.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (27 Oct 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Hull City AFC

After a nervous win against Sheriff over the midweek Europa fixture, Spurs is now back at home welcoming the next opponent, the newly promoted Hull City, aka The Tigers.

AVB's rotation policy is somewhat predictable now, with one team playing cup games and the other playing league matches. No prizes for guessing who will be at the starting lineup this Sunday.

Hull, sitting at 9th, so far has a bumpy ride in the EPL, with 3 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws. This game will see the return of Huddlestone back to the Lane, after his summer transfer a few months ago.

I only have four words for this game - COYS!

Weekend Review - 26 Oct 2013

Manchester United vs Stoke City

Another win in the Champions League against Real Socieda, and we are 3 points away from a magical 10 to seal a place in the knockout round.

Stoke, managed by old boy Mark Hughes, is struggling as they are still getting used with the new style of management after Tony Pulis left last season. We saw another managerial casualty as Ian Holloway left by mutual consent. And Crystal Palace is looking at Tony Pulis as a replacement.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. I will go for a draw this time.

Results - EPL Prediction 19 - 20 Oct 2013

Apologies for the late update of this week's table as it's a really crazy week for me. I just stumbled back into my hotel at 7 this morning.

So anyway here it is with just about everybody getting points over the weekend and as such, not much change in the rankings.

Congrats to redherring for opening account on the Marksmen Board.

Cheers.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (Europa Cup, 24 October 2013)

FC Sheriff vs Tottenham Hotspur
This is one of those tough flights over to Europe that can take a toll on players. The good thing is that Spurs now have depth in the squad to get results in multiple competitions.
FC Sheriff is the team that consistently performs and tops the Moldova league. They have fought for 2 draws in their first 2 group stage matches and have not dropped any points.
Spurs should be resting some key players and I like to see Adebayor given the start with Harry Kane on the bench. Soldado and Defoe should just be given the day off. This is a good match to give our second stringers an opportunity to get playing time and consequently, it might be a disjointed display from our boys.
I expect a draw as a likely result.

Midweek Review - 23 Oct 2013

Manchester United vs Real Sociedad

Another disappointing result from Man Utd. But credit to Southampton for defying the odds and to get a hard-earned draw. They are not fourth in the standing for no reason.

We will play Real Sociedad in a double header for these 3 weeks  in the Champions League. Though we have 4 points and did well in Moyes's virgin debut in the competition, I dont foresee them progressing further beyond quarter final stages as that time will be focus on the domestic title instead.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball handicap. Again no punt as i believe Man Utd will win this match by an odd goal.
