Weekend Review - 5 Oct 2014

Manchester United vs Everton

Another 3 points in the bag against West Ham, though we make ourselves difficult when Rooney got sent off and West Ham got a goal back. And onwards the climb back to the summit where we will try to cut Chelsea's lead.

We will have Everton visiting us after a gruesome trip to Russia and got a vital point towards their Europa League campaign. Without any European commitment, we have more rest, and have stronger legs to last through the entire domestic marathon.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball. I would take Man Utd for the win but not the handicap as I foresee an odd-goal winner.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (5 Oct 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Southampton FC

Another home game this weekend, the Lilywhites host the Saints from the south. And it is also a reunion of sorts for Pochettino, who is facing his old club before his move to North London. 

Since our last victory against QPR back in late August, our league form has been 2 draws and 2 losses, something which we fans feel is a little bit intolerable. For who to start this weekend, one can check out those who did not start in the midweek game against Besiktas ;).

Southampton, with its majority of its squad members changed in between the seasons, are flying high in the league table, ranking just below leaders Chelsea. Koeman had really transformed his team into a juggernaut, and could give Spurs a run for the money this weekend.

Verdict? Only time will tell.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Besiktas

Euro nights start at the Lane again!

 

Besiktas are a good side – with good players that compete at the top of the Turkish Super Lig. This season, Besiktas have started well, unbeaten from their first 4 games in the League with 2 wins and 2 draws. A familiar face in Demba Ba will be leading the attack from the front for the visitors.

 

The team news for Spurs is that Kyle Walker (pelvis) remains out, while Danny Rose (knock) and Etienne Capoue (knock) are doubts, and will probably be rested even if they are fit. The team will change, that’s for sure. Ben Davies, Nabil Bentaleb, Andros Townsend & Roberto Soldado look to start.

 

This is a toughie and I expect a hard fought battle. Hopefully we are able to build on the morale boosting draw we got at the weekend and put in a good shift tonight.

Kudos to edwingsng and ihawk98 for their 6-point haul to take the 1-2 position at the top bumping TheSaint888 and I down to 3rd and 5th respectively.

Arsenal FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

The North London Derby, one of the famous football rivalries in the world, is coming first this season to Arsenal's home ground, the Emirates Stadium.

Though emerging victorious in the midweek League Cup game against Nottingham Forest, but on the EPL front there has not been a victory since the win over QPR. Pochettino has the full squad at his disposal, with Walker as the only one out of the team list due to injury.

Arsenal is facing a host of injury problems, with Walcott, Giroud and Monreal out of the game.

Though coincidentally both will meet Turkish teams in their European campaign next week, but a derby is still a derby. Expect an intense game.

Weekend Review - 27 Sep 2014

An abject performance after leading 3-1 to lose 5-3. The referee has a poor judgement as well. Our defence look paper-thin as we have lost Jonny Evans to injury and Blackett to a suspension ban due to his sending off.

We will have West Ham visiting us and is a match that we need to win to catch Chelsea who is leading the table with a 3 point lead over surprise package, Southampton.

Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. I dont think Man Utd will clear the handicap, but will win this match, hopefully.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Nottingham Forest

(Capital One League Cup 3^rd Round)

Another silverware competition which we are adept at, Spurs will play host to once legends Nottingham Forest.

Defeated at home to West Bromwich, Pochettino is fine tuning the lineup further, especially so since the North London Derby is coming around the weekend. Keeper Vorm and striker Soldado are likely to start in this game.

Pearce’s Forest are facing a string of absent players, with captain Cohen and striker Fryatt not available.

These 2 clubs have gone a long way in cup competitions, stringing numerous trophies among them. Though Forest may be considered a has-been, but for historical significance this is a match worth to watch.
