Weekend Review - 14 Apr 2013

Stoke City vs Manchester United

Despite the loss to Man City, lead cut to 12 points and with 7 games to go, it is a matter of time when Man Utd will win the title. No? We only need 3 more games to wrap up the season.

We visit Stoke City and could extend the lead to 15 points as Man City is having a FA Cup semi-final match with Chelsea.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (11 Apr 2013)

Fussball Club Basel 1893 vs Tottenham Hotspur

(Europa League Quarter Finals, 2nd Leg)

A tall order awaits Spurs as they travel to the city of Basel to face off a team who relegated Manchester United into the Europa League last season.

With a 2-2 scoreline back at the Lane, a 0-0 or even a 1-1 draw is not enough for us to proceed to the next round, thanks to the away goal rules. AVB knew this would be a fight to the finish, but it is a handicapped one as we are without Bale, Lennon, Gallas and Defoe, all out due to injury. This means players like Adebayor, Holtby, Sigurdsson and Dembele would have to step up and achieve the next step of the competition.

Home advantage aside, Basel would probably try to nick an early goal in order to secure a higher aggregate score. Statistically, they are strongest at home in Europa games, with them winning 4 Europa League matches without conceding a single goal. Also, we may see their striker Frei starting up and testing our back four.

An interesting match-up, with us likely to field the same side as against Everton last weekend.

It was a relatively mundane weekend as everyone scored more or less the same. Perhaps the only highlight was KingMeng falling off the title trail, 8 points adrift after a stellar Perfect-10 weekend earlier.

ianrush continues his lead extending it to 5 points over cool402. Though we have only 6 more match weekends to go, experience has told us that anyone within a 10-point range (at this point of the league) still has a very good chance to overhaul the lead.

Midweek Review - 8 Apr 2013

Manchester United vs Manchester City

We are out of FA Cup and thus only left Premier League to play for. With 15 points lead and 8 more games to play for, this could be a potential title decider match.

Man City have not been able to find the consistency like last season, while Man Utd gets the player, Robin Van Persie that we have been missing over the last few seasons. Despite having Rooney, Hernandaz and Welbeck, Persie is another type of player that the former 3 do not have.

Man Utd give 0.25 handicap. If Man Utd wins or draw, it will be 16/18 points and we only need 2 more games to be champions. If Man Utd lose, it will be 12 points and need 4 games to be champions. No punt for this match.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (7 April 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton FC

Just 2 days after an intense Europa game, we are now facing Everton in our quest to go to the Champions League next season.

And the quest is getting more and more difficult. We have no Bale, Lennon and Defoe in this game, which means we may see a totally different formation and tactic to be deployed by AVB. Dempsey, Holtby and Sigurdsson may be stepping up to fill this void.

Everton, though having an outside chance to be in the Champions League next season, are having absentees of their own. Pienaar and Fellaini are suspended, but they still have a mighty inventory with Coleman, Mirallas and, of course, Jelavic in their ranks.

A make or break game. The Toffees themselves are a tough nut to crack and AVB still has to consider next week's away match at Basel.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (Europa League, 5 April 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs F.C. Basel

F.C. Basel are the league leaders in Switzerland. They will be coming to White Hart Lane seeking away goals to take home for the next leg.

These 2 teams have never met before. The only links between us and Basel are that Christian Gross have coached both teams in his career and defender Thimothee Atouba has played for both Basel and Spurs previously.

Spurs will be without Defoe and Tom Carroll as both are out with injuries. I would expect some of the starters to be rested as Everton waits us over the weekend. Expect AVB to bring on them on if we need a spark on the field.

With renewed confidence after the Swansea game, I am hopeful for 3 points to take to the next leg.
