Weekend Review - 30 Aug 2015

Swansea vs Manchester United

A trashing result but dont look too much into it as Club Brugge was depleted of injuries to their first team, and Man Utd literally roll over them.

We got PSV, Wolfsburg and CSKA Moscow as our opponents for the European Cup competition.

We will visit Liberty Stadium to play against Swansea. Anyone still remember Michu when he first came to England and take the league by storm? He is not in current manager, Garry Monk's plans for the current season.

Man Utd give 0.25 handicap. For some reason, Swansea has drawn their first game against current champions Chelsea. No punt.

Midweek Preview - 27 Aug 2015

Club Brugge vs Manchester United

A change in system and our strikers cannot cope. A situation we all seen in the past where the system is tweaked to suit our European ambitions but lacking in domestic fronts. A disappointing draw and we cant relied on Rooney all the time.

We still have 1 week to go before the transfer window closes. Hopefully there is still on going talks for a striker to come on board.

With a return leg tonight, we should not be complacent even though we have a 2 goal cushion. As long we clear the hurdle, not only we get to the main draw, our coffers will also increase as well.

Man Utd give 0.5 handicap. No punt for this match.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (22 Aug 2015)

Leicester City vs Tottenham Hotspur

Third game into the season, Spurs is still trying to find some groove back after the previous 2 games resulted in an unfortunate loss and a luckless draw.

Spurs is going to the King Power Stadium, home of The Foxes. Probable Spurs line-up will include familiar names such as Kane, Eriksen, Chadli, etc., and newcomer Alderweireld. Our defence needs to be more watertight, especially the debacle that resulted in us losing a 2 goal lead against Stoke last weekend.

Leicester is flying high with 2 wins from 2 EPL games under the helm of ex-Chelsea manager Ranieri. With the arrival of new signing Inler, they would probably waste no time in getting him into the game to secure a third victory.

A win for Spurs is a must.

Weekend Review - 22 Aug 2015

Manchester United vs Newcastle

Wow, our new No. 7 Depay has in a way exorcised previous players that has wear 7 but didnt perform up to expectation like Michael Owen and Angel Di Maria. We have a 2 goal cushion to bring to Belgium and are expected to qualify for the competition in Sep.

We will have another lunch time kick off against Newcastle. New manager Steve McClaren is in the hot seat. They narrowly escaped relegation last season and also released their best players. Not sure what is Mike Ashley is thinking.

Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win and handicap.

Midweek Review - 19 Aug 2015

Manchester United vs Club Brugge

Another unconvincing win. Our defence and midfield have improved since the transfer dealings over the off season, but one thing for sure, we are in need of firepower up front badly.

We are back in the Champions League after 1 season of no European campaign. We have to go through 2 leg of qualifying match against Club Brugge in order to qualify for the Champions League proper.   *cues Champions League theme song*

All the stats are against Club Brugge. They have not win against any English team on English soil. They did not qualify for the group stage since 2005. Man Utd have not lost a single qualifying game since the 1-0 reverse against Zalaegerszeg.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. Man Utd to win comfortably but not sure if could clear the handicap with the current strikers on hand.

After two weeks, we see cool402 pulling away with a slender 1 point lead.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 15 August 2015)

 

Tottenham Hotspur vs Stoke City 

 

After a tough opening fixture at Old Trafford where we were unfortunate to not come away with a point due to an own goal, Spurs will face a tricky Stoke side for our home opener.

 

The Potters play tough football and they have made some improvements in the off-season. Their latest signing, Shaqiri could get a start as well as Mark Hughes will want to get a result after losing 1-0 to Liverpool last weekend.

Spurs should have Lloris back in goal but it still worries me that we haven’t signed a strike partner for Kane and getting a solid defensive midfielder to break up attacks in the middle of the park. Rose should retake his left back spot with Ryan Mason replacing Dier in midfield. We should be fielding a stronger side than what Poch had to fashion up last week.

I’m hoping a new season would mean new beginnings and a home win will get us on the the right track to success this season.

Weekend Preview - 14 Aug 2015

Aston Villa vs Manchester United

Well, a win is a win. But performance against Tottenham shows that we are still way off at the moment.

We will travel to Villa Park to face Aston Villa and our fixture is again the first to be played in Friday evening due to policing concern. Friday evening matches will only start officially next season as a result of televised deal that requested matches to be televised to be spread over the weekend.

Under Tim Sherwood, Aston Villa is no longer a pushover despite the sale of their star striker Christian Bertneke to Liverpool. They will also try to end the record of not winning at home against Man Utd for the last 20 years.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. Man Utd to win and can take the confidence to face Club Brugge for next week Champions League qualifier.

Welcome one and all to a new season of PPL (complete with an awesome new banner, and a new scorekeeper)!

The campaign has started strongly for the regulars, with a three-way tie between cool402, Everton and ihawk98 (last season's champion) from the first pair of predictions. I myself managed the first Marksman prediction of the season, hopefully the first of many...

It's early days yet, so anything can happen. Will this season be the one that sees a three-time champion be crowned? Who knows? Stay tuned! :D

Welcome back!

This is the Jubilee Weekend, as well as the opening weekend of the English Premier League 2015/2016 season. And what a fitting opening, the very first game of the season pitting us Spurs against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Some old faces are gone, and new ones coming in. The transfer window is still open so we may still see new additions to our club.

Though we are honoured to play in the very first game of the season, barely 3 days ago we had just concluded a game with Real Madrid, so there may be a hint of exhaustion factored into our readiness. Nevertheless, we are hoping to see the start of our new signings Wimmer,  Alderweireld and Trippier in this game.

The red half of Manchester also see some new signings as well, including the likes of Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and Darmian, which could probably provide us with opening day jitters.

Weekend Preview - 8 Aug 2015

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur

Welcome to the new season of the Barclays Premier League and our game against Tottenham is the first game to play in the new season.

We have done some transfer business in the offseason and recruited Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian and Memphis Depay.

Angel Di Maria has left for PSG. We never really feel the loss as he never adapt to England's culture. We have past experiences with South American players mainly Sebastian Veron and Kleberson and never really succeeded in adapting it. Wonder why Man Utd management manage to miss it and went on to buy Di Maria? Marketing and commerical decision?

Tottenham just finish their friendlies and have only 48hrs of rest before this match and we have a lengthy rest since the last friendly against PSG. A case of gaining an early advantage in the title race?

Man Utd is giving 1 ball handicap. Somehow it suggest to me that Man Utd is intend to fly off the block the moment whistle is blow. Take Man Utd for the win and handicap.
