Results - EPL Prediction 24 May 2015

Congratulations to ihawk98 for winning Season 2014/2015!!

After a long wait of 5 years, ihawk98 finally captured his second victory. That makes him the 5th person to have 2 victories.

I was the first to capture two titles (EPL 2006/2007, Euro 2008). That was followed by edwinsng (World Cup 2006, Euro 2012). Then KingMeng did an impressive EPL double (EPL 2012/2013, EPL 2013/2014) with Everton coming fourth (EPL 2008/2009, World Cup 2014).

Congrats also to ihawk98, Mr White and ianrush for finishing tops at the Marksmen Board.

Anyway, this marks the end of EPL Season 2014/2015 and I would like to thank one and all for playing and sticking with us all these years.

Next season, I shall be handing over the score-keeping duties to Arrenn. I need a break after 10 years keeping score (more if you count the SPUG League days.).

Weekend Review - 24 May 2015

Hull City vs Manchester United

This is a game we can afford to throw away and help Hull City to stay up. But then again we would want to win it to end the season on a high.

Man Utd is giving 0.25 handicap. No punt and with that, the season has come to a close. Off season, we will see transfer activities to improve the squad for next season domestic league challenge and European Cup campaign.

Results - EPL Prediction 16 - 17 May 2015

A final surge by ihawk98 seems to have this season's league title locked in with only 1 last weekend to go. While it is mathematically possible for edwinsng to catch and overcome a 6-point lead, experience has told us that chances of that happening is very remote.

Still, let's not start popping the bubbly yet.

We will schedule a tie-breaker, in the event of a tie at the end of the EPL season, to be on the FA Cup Final on 31 May 2015.

Back to this weekend, we have bumper crop of correct predictions. Congrats to ihawk98, ianrush, edwinsng, Mr White and myself for scoring on the Marksmen Board.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (16 May 2015)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Hull City

With nothing much to play for except to keep our heads above water level (of European qualification), Spurs welcome the Tigers, who still have to play for survival in the EPL.

This game marked Friedel's last home appearance as a player, so we are not sure if there will be a final farewell for him in the form of a substitution. Not much changes in the lineup for this game, though.

Steve Bruce would want his team out of the last 3, and that means the last 2 games is a must win in order to guarantee safety.

In my opinion, the Tigers would roar louder in this one.

Manchester United vs Arsenal

We have secured the return to the Champions League by greater goal difference with 2 games left even if we lose all 2 games and Liverpool win the last 2. With nothing to play for, we have a suspicion that Man Utd is on holiday mood.

A super short review and Man Utd is giving level ball. No punt on this match.

With just 2 weekends to go, ihawk98 surges ahead with a 5-point score to open up a 3-point cushion.

Dark horse KingMeng stumbled this weekend allowing Mr White to come within a point to fight for the third place.

The rest of the table look pretty much inconsequential except perhaps the little tussle between cool402 and arrenn for the 10th spot. Both have 2 games left to hit the century too.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (9 May 2015)

Stoke City FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

3 games left and out of UCL contention, Spurs would have to settle for Europa, though it is not really guaranteed given the Arsenal-Aston Villa FA Cup final equation.

Travelling to the Britannia Stadium, Pochettino would most likely start with his regular 11, which includes Kane, Eriksen, Vertonghen and so on. Maintaining the position at 6th in the table would be sufficient, though it would be a good bonus to edge above Liverpool, if possible.

Stoke, with nothing much left to play for except to finish the season off in the top half of the table, would probably try to spoil Spurs' party.

Weekend Review - 9 May 2015

Crystal Palace vs Manchester United

We have lost 3 games in a row and in a way, open up the 4th placing between us and Liverpool with 3 games remaining. We always have to make things difficult for ourselves. Even this unwanted record doesnt belong to David Moyes, but LVG.

We traveled to Selhurst Park to face a resurgent Crystal Palace under Alan Pardew. He managed to bring them out of the relegation race and is in  process of rebuilding the team to prepare for next season.

We also welcome Bournemouth and Watford to the Premier League. And Bournemouth was still in League 2 (Division 3) 5 years ago. Impressive resume for Harry Arter.

Man Utd is giving 0.5 handicap. I think im giving it a miss at this point of time.

Just two weeks ago, I was just about to write off KingMeng from the title chase.

This week, KingMeng's 7 points roared back to establish himself as the dark horse with an outside chance to outmaneuver the edwingsng-ihawk98 one-two tussle.

Congrats also to redherring for his 8 points as well and another notch on the Marksmen Board to 3 games.

Also congrats to Arrenn for breaking into the Top 10 displacing Cool402 by a single point.

Weekend Review - 2 May 2015

Manchester United vs West Brom

A game that we supposed to win and keep pace with Man City and Arsenal, but we left our boots at home and got caught off guard by Everton's soak and strike approach. It was the worst defeat in LVG tenure in EPL.

We will host West Brom today, and will need to get back in our winning ways again. We only left with Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Hull City to end the season, and also in a way, get back to the Champions League next season.

Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win and the handicap.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (3 May 2015)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City FC

The EPL championship may be decided by this weekend, and our Sunday's opponent, though second in place, would have nothing much to play for except for pride.

At the moment with 4 games remaining and 7 points away from the top 4 spot, going up against Man City in this fixture would be a tricky one. Pochettino knew clinching the UCL spot is remote (though mathematically possible), but he does not wish us to finish below 6th. Team selection wise Davies is out due to last week's injury, but almost everyone else is available for the line-up.

Pellegrini would have to settle for the runner-up position, but he needed to gain more point advantage as Arsenal is sharing the same number of points but with 1 game in hand. Kompany, Yaya Toure and Clichy are out, but the usual Man City powerhouses such as Aguero and Silva are available.

An exciting game, perhaps, more for pride than points, for both sides.
