Congrats to ihawk98 for being the sole 6-pointer this week and to pull away to a comfortable 4-point lead. ihawk98's lead is also partly due to KingMeng's last minute blunder of changing the QPR game from a draw to a win, thus costing him 2 points. Ouch.

No one on the Marksmen Board this week and we go yet another week without a perfect weekend, leaving me the sole occupant of the Perfect-10 Honour Roll for coming to 4 months already.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (28 Dec 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United

The last game of 2014, the last game of the first half of the season, and the second game of the Christmas Crunch period.

Spurs welcome Manchester United to the Lane. For the home side, all players are good to go, with Lloris recovered from the knock in the game against Leicester and Mason fully fit from his ankle problems.

Louis van Gaal has some injury problems, which includes Fellaini, di Maria and Januzaj, but in-form Rooney could pose a threat to us.

A win will propel us to the top 4, a good way to end 2014 and a new beginning in 2015.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United

Another 3 points and maintaining the chase from behind, we can only hope Chelsea will slip up to let us catch up with them.

We will visit White Hart Lane against a young hotshot striker Kane. It is a concidence that his goals has given Pochettino some breathing space after a difficult initial start.

Man Utd is giving 0.25 handicap. I think Man Utd will win this game by a single goal. Another goal-feast match?

Leicester City FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

Merry Christmas and a Happy Boxing Day to you all!

And with this festive period comes the infamous EPL "Christmas Crunch", where games will come fast and furious, starting with today's against Leicester. 

Pochettino would be more concerned with the next 2 games of the Christmas Crunch period, that of Manchester United and Chelsea. Good thing is Mason is the only doubtful player in the list and this means there would be plenty of rotations to rest the players.

Ever since their memorable victory against Manchester United a few months ago, bottom-placed Leicester has had no win. Pearson is determined to get his team back on track.

Weekend Review - 26 Dec 2014

Manchester United vs Newcastle United

Merry Christmas to all PPL-iapers!! Our winning run was stopped by Aston Villa and it was a 2 points lost rather than a point gained.

We will have Newcastle visiting us on Boxing Day and provide another 3 point present to the supporter, and close the gap on Chelsea.

Man Utd is giving 1.25 handicap. With the festive season fixtures coming thick and fast, LVG will want the 3 points rather than having a better goal difference, as such no punt on the handicap.

Weekend Review - 20 Dec 2014

Aston Villa v Manchester United

Last season, the jokes were on us when Liverpool beat us. Now it is Liverpool's turn to get the jokes. Anyway, we are still 8 points behind Chelsea, and slowly climbing up the table.

With the injuries clearing up, team confidence and momentum are clearly showing on the field. At the moment we are not thinking of the title yet but definitely a place back in the Champions League next season.

Our FA Cup opponents for the 3rd round will be Yeovil Town. Tonight match against Aston Villa, the odds is against Villa.

Man Utd is giving 1 ball, which we are expecting a win and 3 points in the bag.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 20 December 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Burnley
 

Fresh off the demolition of Newcastle in midweek, Spurs are gaining confidence and the team is poised to continue our progress against the Clarets this weekend.

 

Looking at some past statistics, the last 4 meetings between these 2 teams have all been home wins and there have been 55 goals scored in the last 12 meetings between Spurs and Burnley when playing at the Lane. So I expect the trend to continue.

 

Burnley has injuries to key players while almost all our starters are fit to start. Adebayor is available for selection again but he is not fully match fit. I do not expect much changes from the side that faced Newcastle and I envision Soldado and Kane continue scoring for us.

Nothing will taste sweeter than revenge. And there is nothing more exciting than a cup tie at home for the fans.

There is talk that Alan Pardew will field understrength sides for cup competitions but we should take it seriously regardless. A cup win is our best hope for silverware this season and the gaffer has said he will try to field a squad that will be sufficient to take us to the semi-final. This could be worrying to be very honest.

I’m hoping that this tie is won in regular time so that players can rest for the weekend.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (14 Dec 2014)

Swansea City AFC vs Tottenham Hotspur

The second away game within 4 days, 10th place Spurs will travel westward to Wales to visit 8th place Swansea, with just 1 point separating the two.

With qualification to the Europa Round of 32, Spurs could take advantage of the long European winter break to concentrate on the EPL. Pochettino will rotate the squad from the Europa game, as expected. Kane is likely to shoulder the attack responsibility after Soldado had played during the midweek and Adebayor is out due to personal reasons.

With no midweek game played and no injury concerns, Swansea will have a choice selection to meet us head on. Ex-Spurs players Sigurdsson and Routledge are set to start.

Weekend Review - 14 Dec 2014

Manchester United vs Liverpool

We are currently third after beating Southampton. And is 8 points behind leaders Chelsea. Our FA Cup opponents will be either Accrington Stanley or Yeovil. Any opponents that hosting us, will relish one of the lifetime chances to have a major upset and progress to the next round. I hope lightning doesnt strike twice during LVG's tenure as the first cup competition that we hope could go far, in the end fail in the first hurdle at MK Dons.

We will be hosting Liverpool and they are facing a crisis at the moment. Goals have dried up after Suraez had left for Barcelona, defence is non-existence like Man Utd, at least we stop concealing stupid goals.

Man Utd is giving 0.75 handicap. I would say Man Utd will win the match and deepen the crisis at Liverpool's end.

Beşiktaş J.K. vs Tottenham Hotspur

(Europa League Group Stage)

This is the last game of the group stage of the Europa League. Although both Spurs and their Turkish opponents Besiktas are guaranteed a spot each in the Round of 32, this game will determine who shall top the group.

It is confirmed that Adebayor is not on the plane to Istanbul, but Walker would be making a return after a long injury.

On the Turkish side, star striker Demba Ba is out with a broken toe.

With the infamous Christmas crunch coming, it is better for our boys to get over this game smoothly and concentrate on the league.

Weekend REview - 7 Dec 2014

Southampton vs Manchester United

The title race is wide open now as Chelsea lost over the weekend to Newcastle. No one has ever dare to mention "unbeaten" under the same breath with "entire season". Even Arsenal who managed to do this, didnt mentioned anything during the course of the season.

We will visti Southampton with the chance to go 3rd and cut Chelsea's lead as well.

The handicap for this match is level. I would take Man Utd for the handicap and 3 points for this match.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 6 December 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace
 

We performed better this season at Stamford Bridge compared to the last. But the loss still shows we are a club in rebuilding mode. We moved the ball fairly well but were not clinical in front of goal.

I hope to see the side that produced a magnificent display against Everton last weekend. Give Soldado a start alongside Kane again and let’s play the flowing football that Spurs are known for. Having won our last 2 league clashes against Palace without reply, this is a game where we can give it a real go.

The odds are for a 2-1 home victory and I certainly hope it comes true.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 4 December 2014)

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur

 

A fighting Spurs side finally showed up on Sunday against the Toffees and brought hope to the faithful at the Lane. Will that continue in midweek?

Stamford Bridge has traditionally been tough for us and the last time we won there, Gary Lineker scored the winner for a cup competition if my memory serves me well. This Blues team are hard to beat even without Diego Costa. They are undefeated this season in all competitions so far.

 

I hope the high pressing energy continues from the previous game as we will need to disrupt the flow of our opponents. I do expect us to play counter-attacking football and hope to catch them on the break. Anything more than a draw is gravy.

Another win on the trot to take us to fourth in the table, though we still have a long way to catch Chelsea as we are trailing 11 points from them.

We will have Stoke visiting us and again another old boy Mark Hughes will visit us to try to take 3 points out of Old Trafford.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (30 Nov 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton FC

Both teams had just played their midweek European games, and both had advanced to the Europa Round of 32.

Now back home, Spurs must shake off the constant hangover that plagued us for many seasons. Also, adding the fact that we have the worst home form in the current EPL season, Pochettino would have to do something to salvage that, though his selection for this game is still slightly limited due to injuries.

The Toffees are looking forward to get some players back for this clash, in particular Baines and Barry.

An interesting game as traditionally Everton had always gave us a hard time, whether home or away.

Weekend Review - 29 Nov 2014

Manchester United vs Hull City

An unexpected win against Arsenal as we are hit by alot of injuries, though we will still take it as it comes. And now we are fourth and at the final spot of the Champions League for next season.

The festive fixtures are coming soon and we are hoping for all the injuries to be ease and have extra leg to last.

We will have Hull City visiting us and we welcome former defender Steve Bruce back to OT. He is currently managing Hull and hope to get the first win against his old team.

Tottenham Hotspur vs FK Partizan

Emerging from a win against Hull over the last weekend, Spurs is set to reignite their winning ways when the Serbian side comes visiting at the Lane.

The last encounter with Partizan ended with a draw, but a win tonight would guarantee Spurs’ place in the Round of 32. However, Pochettino is facing selection problems with many players sidelined due to injuries and suspension, so there might be a chance where he may dig into the reserve squad.

Partizan’s European campaign is considered as over, but they could still play the role of party spoilers and would display what most people said as “the last burst of fire”.

Weekend Review - 22 Nov 2014

Arsenal vs Manchester United

Not sure if the international break is good or bad for us, as we suddenly have more injuries in the treatment room than those who are fit to play in the field.

We will visit Arsenal and is not a good time to play against them with a depleted team to even field 11 players.

Man Utd is eating 0.25 handicap. No punt as LVG not able to field a full team against Arsenal.

Hull City vs Tottenham Hotspur

 

Which Spurs side will show up?

The international break may not have come at the best time as it takes away valuable coaching time from Pochettino and his still unsettled team. Going to the KC Stadium to face a tenacious Hull City team is not an easy fixture. Old boys galore will feature as  Hull will have Dawson, Huddlestone and Livermore in their ranks against us.

Townsend and Rose are doubtful with injuries. Naughton is serving his suspension so I do expect Dier and Ben Davies to get the starts as the wingbacks. I am hopeful that whatever is “poisoning” the team spirit is lifted and everyone huddles together to get a good result. We are unbeaten against Hull in all competitions since 5 October 2008 and that should be a morale booster.

There is still all to play for this season.

Weekend Review - 8 Nov 2014

Manchester United vs Crystal Palace

A loss against Man City with a stupid sending off from Smalling and injury from Marcos Rojo depleted our non-existence back 4. LVG need to go in the coming transfer window to shore up the defence.

We will have Crystal Palace visiting us, although Zaha will not be travelling due to injury.

Man Utd is giving 1.5 handicap. I doubt Man Utd could clear the handicap, but could win the match.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Stoke City FC

Spurs is playing host to the Potters for this Sunday's early kick-off.

Consistency will be on the minds of most Spurs fans as this game is classified under a potential "European hangover", after our win against the Greek side Asterias Tripolis. Adebayor did not make the trip to Greece, so expect him to start in the lineup.

Except for the long term injuries such as Huth and Odemwingie, Hughes has no other concern for his team selection. We might see the return of our old boy Crouch.

Currently the middle of the table is at a very tight spread, and a loss could mean a big drop down.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (Europa, 7 November 2014)

Asteras Tripoli vs Tottenham Hotspur

Adebayor, Kaboul and Lennon have not travelled to Greece with the team this midweek. This means that Kane and Soldado are favored to start up front for us. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing as many are saying that Soldado and Kane are the preferred pairing rather than with Adebayor. So this match will give the gaffer another opportunity to test things out. Kane is the in-form forward so here’s hoping he continues the fine performances with another goal or two.

 

In other news, Vorm will get the start as Lloris got himself “suspended” in the previous fixture. I think it was his way of getting Vorm some more competitive playing time to be honest.

 

Group C is quite tight so a win tonight would help us keep pace with Besiktas which should easily dispatch Partizan Belgrade.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Hotspur

Fresh off the victory in the Capital One Cup competition in mid week, Spurs will be looking to regain momentum in the league after needlessly dropping points last weekend.

 

The punters are picking an away win for Spurs but this is far from easy. Expect key battles as our strike force will need to get past Ron Vlaar in the heart of the Villains defense, while our centre backs will have to deal with the big presence of Christian Bentenke.

 

My hope is that the team takes positives from the past few matches and puts together a tight away performance to take all 3 points from the weekend.

Weekend Review - 2 Nov 2014

Manchester City v Manchester United

Against Chelsea, it was a 1 point gained rather than 2 point lost. And we managed to halt their chase to the crown.

Now we will be facing Man City who is facing a slump in form at the moment. Got knocked out of the League Cup whereas we got extra rest. We can only hope that our rest will be an advantage.

Man Utd is eating 0.5 handicap. I would say take the handicap as im predicting either a draw or an unexpected win from Man Utd.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton

Its best to forget about the Newcastle debacle last weekend.

 

The consensus among fans is that we are still in transition and a Top 4 finish will be unattainable this season. Our best hopes for silverware lies in the cup competitions and we are still in 3 of them.

 

Regardless of the finger pointing that is going on now from players, coach and especially from the fans, I just hope the players realize how passionate everyone is to see the club succeed. I would hope the players take every cup match seriously and get the points needed to progress towards the final. I think the fans deserve something to cheer about.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (26 Oct 2014)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United FC

The second of 3 games in 6 days, good thing we stay put at the Lane for this match-up. A convincing win and a field day for Kane (including his goalie experience) and Lamela during the midweek as we thrashed the Greek side Asteras Tripolis 5-1.

Given their form and confidence, we may see Kane and Lamela to start against the Magpies. Regarding the defensive frailties, I hope Pochettino start off with Vertonghen and Kaboul at the back to shore it up.

Pardew's attacking men Cisse and Riverie are doubtful for this game, and other injuries such as Tiote and Ameobi are giving him headaches in team selection. It has been very long since Newcastle had won away.

With a win, we could see ourselves moving up to at least within the top 7 tonight.
