Results - EPL Prediction 19 May 2013

Congratulations to KingMeng for capturing the triple crown for the season 2012/2013.

For some strange reason, no one has won the EPL Prediction League twice. Cool402 was so close to breaking that jinx but alas a fat zero on the final day means he settles for joint runner-up with ianrush.

So close!

KingMeng not only won the League but also co-leads the Marksmen Board (with ianrush) as well as the Perfect-10 Hall Of Fame (with Mr White).

Anyway, thanks to one and all for playing our 9th season.

We will be taking a break for the summer but when we come back, we shall embark on the milestone 10th PPL Prediction League season!

Don't forget after that, we have the Rio 2014 World Cup to follow!

See you guys next season!

Fixture Focus - Spurs (19 May 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Sunderland AFC

The last game of the season. At this stage, we had known who are the league champions, and we knew who are the ones going to the Championship next season. It all seems that the games for today are rubber ties.

Except for the 2 teams in North London. Champions League or Europa League, it is now up to us, and the opponent of our neighbours later this evening, to decide.

AVB will definitely pull no punches for this game. Expect a full squad blazing their guns away. Nothing more.

Sunderland, now safe from relegation, would take this game as an opportunity to "spoil the party". Rose is not available due to being loan-tied. Striker Sessegnon, who is returning from suspension, is likely to start.

Ironically, Arsenal's opponent this evening is Newcastle, Sunderland's rivals in the northeast. An unlikely scenario would be a form of an indirect Tyne-Wear derby, playing to see which of them decided the Europa League spot for the opponent, and I hope it is not us!

Weekend Outlook (19 May 2013)

West Bromwich Albion vs Manchester United

"...Even the almighty Sir Alex Ferguson needed 7 years to finally capture the League title..."

- JayWalk, 19 May 2013

I wanted to open this article with a "We Are The Champions!" shout but realised that was already old news.

Dang.

It seems only just last weekend when Ron Atkinson made way for a young Alex Ferguson as ManUtd's gaffer. It was an era when we were bullied left right and centre by the then mighty Liverpool. Atkinson couldn't bring home the league trophy though he lifted the FA Cup twice in 5 years. (Against Brighton & Hove Albion in 1983 and again against Everton in 1985).

Sir Alex didn't fare any better in the beginning. In fact, we ended the league title drought only in 1992-1993 season. 7 years later. Even the almighty Sir Alex Ferguson needed 7 years to finally capture the League title. It was a time of superstars in the making. It was a time when we had Schmeichel and Giggs before they went on to greatness. It was a time when Keane was still at Nottingham Forest and Eric Cantona was still at Leeds before they set foot on Old Trafford soil and blossomed to god status.

So today marks the day the curtain fall on Sir Alex Ferguson's 27 illustrious years with us as he leads ManUtd out onto the pitch for the very last time.

I know of people who expressed their disappointment that we weren't able to land Jose Mourinho as Sir Alex's successor. The way I see it, instant success more often than not, leads to nowhere. Look at ManCity. Look at Chelsea. Look at Queen's Park Rangers. The foundation just isn't firm enough to stand on.

I support Sir Alex's faith in David Moyes. We may or may not sustain the level of dominance that Sir Alex has spoiled us over the years, but I am sure we will get there when we lay our foundation brick by brick.

JayWalk The Talk: This is an inconsequential game between two teams who have nothing left to play with. ManUtd has already captured the league title while West Brom will still be stuck in mid-table regardless of outcome today.

Still, everybody would want to end the season on a happy note and by happy note, I mean not to lose. So as far as these two teams, who are already browsing vacation brochures, are concerned, a draw qualifies as a happy note.

Both sides have relatively healthy squad but Fergie is likely to bench Ferdinand and Vidic so as to make way for the youngsters to have a run on the pitch. De Gea will also be missing as Lindegaard will be between the sticks today.

I don't expect Wayne "Not Alex's Problem Anymore" Rooney to feature as the boy needs to reaffirm his committment before he is allowed to wear the ManUtd jersey. Or not.

If I were Sir Alex, I would field all the youngsters like Rafael in the starting line-up but fill up the subs with the old timers. Perhaps, with 10 or 15 minutes on the clock to go, I will bring out all the old timers like Giggs and Scholes for one last hurrah.

JayWalk The Walk: Well, the bookmakers are giving the home side a 0.5-ball advantage but a less-than-impressive 2.05 to beat it. On the 1X2, the spotlight is on ManUtd to win today. Punters are favouring the ManUtd to win with 77% betting on the visitor's pot.

Personally, I disagree with the bookmakers' view on this game. I am gunning for a draw for a few reasons.

Firstly, there is really nothing to play for. League position for ManUtd is already cast in stone. West Brom risk dropping one notch to what? 9th? Yawn.

Secondly, Lindegaard is manning the goal. I don't think we'd be able to keep a clean sheet today. I expect Lukaku to get his name on the goal sheet.

Lastly, It's summer vacation time. Not good if you are injured right? It would really suck to be out there on the beautiful white sandy beach, basking in the sun...

...with a plaster cast on.

Go with West Bromwich Albion and take the 0.5-ball advantage.

Disclaimer: The above views are purely my own two-cents' worth. In other words, I cannot and will not guarantee that my predictions are accurate. If you want to bet on the game, do so at your own risk. Also, please bet responsibly and within your means regardless of how "sure thing" that game may appear to be. As the old saying goes, "The Ball Is Round". Good luck.

Results - EPL Prediction 11 - 12 May 2013

Congratulations! We have two Perfect 10s this weekend. Congrats to KingMeng and Cool402 who are now on the 1-2 spots respectively.

While these two are in the front to grab that title, it must be said that anyone within the 10-point gap still mathematically have a chance to pull the rug from under them.

With only 1 match to go this coming Sunday, there is the possibility of a tie at the end of it. Should that happen, the European Champions League Final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund shall be the tie-breaker.

The rules will be slightly different from the regular games. So do pay attention when the rules are released in due time, if at all.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (12 May 2013)

Stoke City FC vs Tottenham Hotspur

The ability to go for the top 4 position by end season is out of our hands, and we have to depend very much on the results of the other games. Hope is the only thing we can have now.

However, we still need to do our part, especially the results of our last 2 games. First up will be an away fixture at the Britannia Stadium, home of Stoke City. Dembele may make it for this game after being absent from the midweek one at Stamford Bridge. AVB may have to tinker the squad to face a more physical Stoke.

Stoke's Whelan and Wilkinson are doubtful for the game, but the rest of the team seems intact. The Potters are considered safe from relegation after achieving the magical 41 points. Still, they may want to end their season with some party spoilers at our expense.

The Britannia is not a happy hunting ground for us, having drawn thrice and lost once in our last 4 games there. Hope we could break the duck and go marching on.

Weekend Review - 12 May 2013

Manchester United vs Swansea City

8 May 2013 is the day where Fergie made an announcement that he will retire at the end of the season. A span of 26 years at the club, he had won 38 trophies. No manager could ever eclipse this record again, with so many impatient owners sacking manager even when there is no sign of trouble.

We will also welcome David Moyes as the successor that has big shoes to fill. With Fergie moving up as a director and an ambassador at the club, he could offer fatherly advise to Moyes. Moyes is also the 3rd manager in the Premier League that has not been sacked. Operating on a shoestring budget at Everton, he is able to keep Everton at the top half of the table.

Despite not proven in the European stage, we do believe with the time given, he has to prove to everyone why Fergie choose him. Though abit disappointed at Moyes' appointment and not Jose Mourinho, Fergie came to Man Utd as an unknown despite winning Scottish Premier League and European Cup Winners Cup with Aberdeen. Let us keep our expectation low at the moment.

We will have Swansea visiting us at Old Trafford, and we will have our title celebrations right after the final whistle as the last game is to West Brom Albion. I would say it will be a muted celebration ever since Fergie announced to retire.

Man Utd will give 1.75 handicap. No punt as i believe both set of players are already in holiday mood.

Fixture Focus–Spurs (EPL, 9 May 2013)

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur

Two words. Massive fixture.

The return of AVB to Stamford Bridge in a fixture with Champions League qualification on the line. A Spurs win will take the race for 4th out of rival Arsenal’s hands while a Chelsea win will guarantee the Blues at least a top four finish for the season.

Spurs will have Lennon back and AVB will definitely field a full strength team. The confidence is high within the team after the Southampton win and I am counting on the players wanting to do their best for each other to get us the 3 points.

Tough game but we have come a long way this season. We can do this!

WHOA!!

The title race has just be blown wide open!! ianrush has buanged for the 4th consecutive week, allowing KingMeng to overtake the lead and cool402 in joint-2nd.

With only TWO more match weekends to go. Can KingMeng hold on to the tiny lead or are we going to see another shuffled in the penultimate week and go down to the wire?

Let's go!

Weekend Review - 5 May 2013

Manchester United vs Chelsea

Nearly forget to write the review. With 3 games to go, the relegation fight and the final 3rd and 4th spot will go down to the wire.

Tonight match, all Arsenal and Tottenham supporters will be rooting for Man Utd, with Tottenham have a game in hand with Chelsea in mid week, Chelsea could lose 6 points, gain 2 points or win all 6 points for the 3rd and 4th European Cup slot. Massive point difference could result other rival teams to gain those 2 spots.

If I have to choose, I will choose Arsenal and Tottenham to qualify for the Champions League.

Man Utd give 0.25 handicap. Take Man Utd for the win.

Fixture Focus - Spurs (4 May 2013)

Tottenham Hotspur vs Southampton FC

Before I begin, let us congratulate Bale for his PFA award! *clap clap*

Now, back to business.

Every game from now is crucial. And that "crucial sense" would be imposed on our visitors, Southampton, later this evening.

Dembele is doubtful for this game after last week's knock at Wigan, which probably we might see either Holtby or Sigurdsson stepping up to fill that place. Other than that, besides our long term injuries, AVB would have almost the same team as last week's.

The Saints would be coming to the Lane without Ramirez and Fox, both not available due to suspensions. Though they are safe from relegation, they may look forward to "spoil our party" by derailing our Champions League hopes further.

Statistically speaking, the Saints have a poor record at the Lane. Hope that continues to be so.
