He did what 14 managers could not do.
It is an intriguing conundrum. Is it better to face a Top 4 team early in the season or later?
We played United early last season and it was not pretty. This season, both teams are still working on gelling the players understanding. United has not been convincing in their matches so far but they are winning them nonetheless. This fixture should see the return of Wayne Rooney from that nasty injury and the prospect of a sometimes suspect defensive line for Spurs facing the duo-pronged attack of Rooney and van Persie is quite daunting.
Tottenham have only scored eight goals in 20 Premier League visits to Old Trafford, losing 17 times and winning none. The last player to score a winning goal for Tottenham at Old Trafford was Gary Lineker in December 1989. Since then Spurs have lost 18 and drawn four of 22 visits. We are still getting used to Andre Villas-Boas’ system and this will be the toughest test for us this season so far. We will see what the new team is made off and how tactically astute the new head coach is. Considering our record at Old Trafford, a win would be a tremendous result and a boost in the right direction.
Needless to say, fans are frustrated at the moment but I am sure the gaffer is even more frustrated.
It would be interesting to see what formation AVB plays on Saturday and which personnel he deploys. My guess is that Dembele and Adebayor will start while Dempsey will be available from the bench. The players looked out of sorts in the first 3 matches of the season and are clearly struggling to get use to a new system of play. I really have no issue with any system of play, just as long as we play fluid, entertaining, attacking football. This is what Spurs is known for and anyone who tinkers with this is not going to have a happy reception with the fans.
Reading are a spirited side and have won 8 of the last 10 matches at home. Manager Brian McDermott will welcome Jimmy Kebe, the winger from Mali, back into his squad.
Both managers will want to get their first win of the season under their belt. For my sanity, I really want it to be AVB.
COYS!!!
